Yes I installed the game and mods and ran them for a few hours prior to the Windows 10 upgrade but this is the first attempt with 10.

It runs very smoothly with sounds disabled in the launcher (though I miss the dakka and explosions)

Rebooting does not appear to have fixed it but I will try a second reboot and let you know if that does anything.

Edit: after the second reboot no change.

When trying to launch the game on a windows 10 laptop I encounter an error that it cannot initialize the music, here's the relevant chunk of the starsector.log

I have tried disabling musiclib and the error persists, it appears to be independent of any mods.
I have also tried reinstalling starsector to no effect.

Well uhhhh nevermind, a simple reboot of the game seems to have cleared the issue up.

jesus christ, is literally doubling system resource usage supposed to be a feature on this mod? I mean with just SS+ starsector can use up a fair chunk of my RAM but with nexerlin even the main menu eats up so much that the computer doesn't have enough for anything else, and then demands more.

I got 6 FPS and my whole system was running so slow it took 2 minutes to go into task manager (not bring it up, just mouse over to the window) and shut down starsector, after I got it minimized.

This is the erm... "smaller" version of one of the new weapons. I would have made this a gif, but it's slightly more terrifying with the sound on.



TL;DR- My take on the old-school Mechwarrior PPC, except PINK!!! (I even have a permissive license for the sfx!) I have a feeling everyone's going to "love" going up against these just as much as they do the Tornado AM lol... Still some balancing to do, but it absolutely shreds the fancier high-tech ships and struggles a bit vs. the low-tech ones.
So basically you've taken one of the most satisfying energy weapons I have ever fired in any game, then given us a strikingly similar weapon with the same beautiful SFX?

shut up and just take all my money.

maybe somebody else will pick up a similar concept but use landship style tanks like the T-35 that we can mix-and-match turrets with.

The more I think about it actually the more I realize the karkinos would just simply benefit from a long range setup in general, it's the only blackrock ship I've seen that feels slow and clumsy, so closing in on targets that don't want to be closed on is difficult at best, and it's teleport's sheer range would certainly be better for a long range kit than a regular phase skimmer.

hypervelos, gauss, and sledge guns should provide me with more than enough distance to pull it off, ferros too since it IS a blackrock ship.

These guys have been the bane of my existence, for quite a while I'd hang out in crusaded systems and lurk around until I saw a fleet without any cruisers or really low CR, then I'd swoop in with enough firepower to kill most pirate lord fleets, and I'd continue in this fashion until a paladin took note and singlehandedly wiped my fleet.

Right now I'm running a karkinos and odyssey with some mayorate cruisers armed with heavy polarizers, as well as whatever other cruisers I'm allowed to purchase, I have 10/10/10 with level 7 in most skills, and still that lone paladin, with hardly any support, is able to absolutely butcher my fleet with only a single priwen burst.

I think I'm gonna start trying to refit my ships for long range kinetic damage (except the odyssey, as I have a feeling it's current chirped pulse lasers are counter productive against the templars) and then mod them for EMP resistance, but right now I think it takes me 2-3 tries to get through most templar fleets without unacceptable losses.

So I can just save the modifed vmpaarams file as a .txt or something right? it's already in as an unspecified generic file, and notepad won't allow me to save it as such. notepad++ won't allow me to save it at all too, so I'm not feeling confident about this.
