It took me a dozen attempts to get the hang of staying away from larger "neutral" fleets and readying myself against leaving a star system and even then, I still get ambushed fairly often by pirates.

Which is cool, I really like this.

The problem is, they are often much stronger than I am and are not interested in talking, simply wiping me out, forcing me to reload.

So, this isn't really fun and in the end, I don't even pay the price of being ambushed because I either reload or restart my game.

However, this one time, pirates demanded that I hand over all my illegal cargo, or else. This is good, I can live with this and learn from my mistakes. IMO this should happen more often.

I'm trying to play on 1600x900 because the text is too small in 1980x1080, however there's a half inch of display that's missing all around the edge. I've trying playing with scaling settings in my video card as well as in the properties of the executable, but to no avail.

Suggestions / Economy - Separate the Import and Export prices
« on: December 11, 2014, 07:53:05 AM »
I noticed someting that doesn't quite make sense with the economy.

I have the Starsector + suite of mods installed. In my current game, the Templars have caused a catastrophic crash of the economy in the Imperium sector. Thousands dead, the system will be broken for a while.

What this means is that every planet and station in the system now has 0 stability.

So I went over there, with fuel, metals and ores in the hopes to sell some stuff. On the small outposts, even if there was demande for all my things, the prices were quite low. That makes sense, these people probably don't have any money anymore. There wasn't much on sale either.

However, and this is where I saw a problem, when I visited Babylon, the capital, the prices made no sense.

The station stability is at zero, meaning low prices, but the station supply was also very high. There were 6500 units of food on sale at 11$. If a system was recently crashed I figure they would BUY goods at a very low price because money is in short supply but they would also SELL the same goods at a very high price because they need to hang on to those goods or they need a lot of money.

There was an Atlas on sale. I bought it, I bought and carried the 6500 units of food and many other goods back to my base in Magec and I suspect that very soon, the price for food will rise drasticaly on Babylon, where I'll be able to simply bring back the food and sell it back to them at a high price.

Suggestions / Ability to wait at a space station
« on: December 02, 2014, 05:38:41 PM »
I just got camped by pirates at Jangala. All I had was a freighter but I figured I could simply hide at the space station and wait for them to leave.

Except the game pauses when you're in a station. So I lost my ship. :(

General Discussion / Why do fighters have pilots?
« on: November 10, 2014, 05:42:30 AM »
It seems logical at first but we're in 2014 and it's already the age of drones. A computer will always do a better job at flying a fighter ship than a human ever will: Situational awareness, stamina, G-forces have no effect, no training is required except for patching the new AI version on your fighters. To me, the idea that space fighters will have individual pilots is misinformed and it will never happen.

It could also open up some interesting branches aside from no longer losing pilots. Alex said that blueprints will eventualy come around. It would be cool if we could purchase AI upgrades for fighters, providing flat +% bonuses or even changing the behavior of fighters, or allowing us to assign more complicated orders.

And on the other hand there would be electronic counter-mesures available to fight against fighters. An enemy ship could broadcast a virus that disrupts or disables fighters. To counter this you could "shut down" the communications suite of your fighters, hardening them against viruses but also making them unable to receive your orders and sending them off on Search and Destroy.
