General Discussion / Re: Market - I jsut do not understand it at all.

Main problem is a lack of price data. Unless you constantly burn fuel and check all orbitals for change.

Right, I'd like to really delve into this issue before declaring it broken by the release number. It's not as straightforward as shooting down pirates for cash but it doesn't mean it's impossible.

With my current character I went 100% industry, a bit of tech, and some leadership. All my trade contracts have been very profitable so far and it's because of a few additional factors.

Salvaging has been an immense help in staving off the cost of supplies and fuel. I run deliveries in systems with pirate bases so on my way out, I always hover around fights and play the vulture. I found a Dominator cruiser with busted sensors just by salvaging!

Additionally, although salvaging warships often gives you subpar assets, it does not matter if you run a massacred herd of (D) freighters. I outfit them with sensor equipment since they're boned in a fight, with or without the 2-3 PD weapons.

This also means you have to be adept at playing the sensor game and flying under the radar. Avoid civilian hulls and other mods that make you more visible. Ensure you have a high burn speed.

Lastly, through salvaging you end up with a lot of additional goods. Store them somewhere and wait for a contract to come up. You have a much higher profit margin when you're patient enough to wait for the right contract.

It was indeed a trade mission, for personal firearms.

It took me a dozen attempts to get the hang of staying away from larger "neutral" fleets and readying myself against leaving a star system and even then, I still get ambushed fairly often by pirates.

Which is cool, I really like this.

The problem is, they are often much stronger than I am and are not interested in talking, simply wiping me out, forcing me to reload.

So, this isn't really fun and in the end, I don't even pay the price of being ambushed because I either reload or restart my game.

However, this one time, pirates demanded that I hand over all my illegal cargo, or else. This is good, I can live with this and learn from my mistakes. IMO this should happen more often.

The word "polity" is actually spelled "policy".

Examples:

One of the colony attributes is named "Urbanized Polity".

Also:

There are a few instances of the word "polity".

Just tried, it had no effect!

Yeah, overscan.

The thing is, it's already set so that everything else has the right aspect ratio. If I mess with it for Starsector, it will create another problem.

I'll try it anyway.

I'm trying to play on 1600x900 because the text is too small in 1980x1080, however there's a half inch of display that's missing all around the edge. I've trying playing with scaling settings in my video card as well as in the properties of the executable, but to no avail.

Now I want to mod some Street Fighter II sounds into StarSector.

So far I'm loving the new update, haven't been on this site in quite some time. But I was wondering, what is a good way to get into more fights? so far I have over 200k credits and 3 ships, a Hammerhead, a Wolf and a Lasher. I am able to take on fleets 3 times my size, but It seems there are less pirates in this new version, is there a way I can kill more stuff without *** off the factions who could sell me ships?

It's going to take a very, very long time to get good reputation with ALL the factions. The way I play, I start the game by picking which faction I want to be allies with and I attack their enemies. It gets me reputation and cash a lot faster AND the fights are absolutely massive. Very large pirate fleets are rare, as opposed to faction fleets.

I'll keep this up as long as I can, until my fleet gets annihilated and then I restart the game and increment the roman numeral in my chracter's name. (Bockus I, Bockus II, Bockus III)
The last time it was the Hegemony, this time it's Try-Tachion and Imperium.

That's the entire log?  Yeah, I'd just reinstall the game at this point.

No, the old log was getting to big to browse, that's a new one I created so that it only contains the latest crash info.

Reinstall? Ok.
What we need to see is the very bottom of the log as that will have the cause of the crash.
FYI: Use the free program Baretail to browse the log as it can load a 20 meg log with almost no delay!

What I posted was the very bottom. I'll get Baretail.

Edit: Son of a nuts! It WAS Rainmeter.

I installed a new icon for Steam and it didn't include Run as Admin. That's what made launching SS crash.

I like the Corsica system very much - seems to always be a good bit going on there pirate-wise and when the bounties pile up it can be excellent for scraping up some cash and salvage.  I typically stash it somewhere and then haul it away to sell elsewhere, though, since the factions are so pissy about what gets done in-system.  It definitely seems less like a "Core World" type system than Thracia, which is typically a solid mass of trade fleets piled up around the Bazaar and trailing away to the gate.  It's nice to have another spot to search out TriTach ships as well.  It's lucky there are multiple jump points, though - slogging across it is painful enough in a fast frigate fleet, I doubt I'll ever be doing it in much heavier.  I love the look of the new ship as well - good stuff!

I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but the Imperius ships really remind me of the yellow ships in MoO2 http://3ln.org/articles/master-of-orion-2-ship-images-by-color

Improved the "advanced weapons" option.

I SEE THAT 4 HORNET ENFORCER

YOURE AN EVIL PERSON

What can you do with that single ship at the beginning of the game? The only fleets you can take on are too fast for you.

Can you post the crash log?  It should be at the end of starsector.log after a crash occurs.

Sure, however I'm not sure what happened, I can't start the game now. I got home from work and installed a few rainmeter skins (a music player and an icon pack). That's the only thing that changed.

I'd take a reminder every half-hour. My game crashed yesterday and it was annoying to redo everything.

It crashes every so often. The last time, I was shopping in a station in Magec. I noticed that the music stopped after a while, I was switching between the Refit and Fleet panels. Then, once I left the station the game crashed.

I'm using SS+ and its suggested, compatible mods but Imperium and SS+ are one patch out of date.
