I think it has to do with new code for how pirates spawn, I THINK it's from SS+. But either way, I guess I am okay with it, really.

My method for installing mods: Open one tab with the mods forum in it. CTRL+Click on the threads for each mod I want to download. Seek to each that I know has special requirements like Scy's TwigLib. Download LazyLib and shader lib from the links from any of the threads, again ctrl clicking. Now, I have tabs open for each mod I want to download. One by one, I download each and x out the windows they generate, and narrow it down.

That is my process for updating mods on SS.

I wanted to comment on what you said about the mercenaries, D.R.

If they already do this, then please disregard, obviously; I feel like it is really oddly artificial to have these fleets follow you constantly, because it's as if they have infinite supplies, their crews have no qualms about chasing this evasive fleet for, well, ever. They could have a variable time they will chase you for, before ditching.

Hey guys, I've had a weird problem that I can not recreate, but I wanted to report it here.

After playing a short while, I found that when I went to a certain station from the mod Scy (their HQ Hephaistos), I would get all the normal options like to trade and repair, but if I pressed trade, the UI would not continue to load. I would get a blank menu screen and no ability to leave or go back.

After leaving, going to another station, then going back to Hephaistos, everything seems to be fine.. I can't figure out why that had happened for just one moment in time. What I DO notice though, is that despite my 5 frigate fleet of some Tachyon frigates, A Blackrock frigate, and an Exigency frigate, there are two medium sized bounty-spawned mercenary fleets following me, and I am unsure if they were spawned 'properly'.. They just seem overkill for a little group like mine, and they are too slow to catch me by any means. It makes me wonder if, perhaps, their spawning had something to do with my inability to access the market properly.
 
Like I said, I just wanted to give this report, I'm not really sure what to make of it.

Bonjour,

So I loaded up SS to see if I had simply made a mistake. In my save, I am resting at Elysee- I can go to Elysee and leave just fine. When I go to Hephestos (or how ever you spell it ^^;), I do have all the normal options, like trading, repairs, and leaving. But once I press the button to trade, nothing ever loads, the UI does not generate any further.

My mods:

Does anyone have any clue? I'll try doing this with a fresh save and see what happens.


So, in a fresh save I don't have any issue. I'm trying to think of anything I did that would be so drastic...

The only things I have done in this save has been raided pirates, bought Try-Tachyon ships, and I have a salvaged Exigency frigate.

I'll try going to any other SCY station... Hm, I am also noticing a lot more large generic pirate fleets in Tartarus that I would have never seen before this big wave of updates. Right now, two large fleets and one small.

Anyway, I visited the volitiles plant and had no issue. Traveling back to Hephaistos.. Yea, I can do it now. Something about the moment itself was keeping me from doing it that I have now passed.

I notice that there are two or three large mercenaries following me for bounties, and they greatly out number my small fleet, so I suspect something else might be wrong. I'll take this to the SS+ thread. Thanks again =P

Hey, having an issue: I am using SS+ as well as pretty much all of the faction mods that are up to date for 65.2a-rc2 (which is not many.)

I started my game as Tachyon and then raided my way around some vanilla systems until I got to Acheron. I went into Acheron, killed a bounty, then went to Tartarus. It seems to work fine, the system is alive and well, but when I try to view the trade screen of Elysee, I just get a blank screen, and I can't get out of the menu.

Hey Julz I recently had a similar issue- I use 3g to start and 6g max. But it turns out, that for a long time, I thought it was working and it was not at all. If your game still tells you youre not using enough RAM when you start a new game, then you have not done it right- the .bat file may not be enough, and you may need to use option B like I did.

Nah I fixed it, D.R was right,I simply needed more memory. I just need to remove some mods.

What other max might you suggest? I'll try some others in a bit and I'll let the thread now how it goes, but thought I'd ask.

So I tried starting it at 3gb and making the max 4gb. I try to load the game and Java.exe maxes out at about 4,700,000K memory in my task manager for some reason. After about 2 minutes or so, it fails with an error. The log says there is an Out of memory error : GC overhead limit exceeded (it did not say this so specifically in the past.)

"according to Sun, the error happens "if too much time is being spent in garbage collection: if more than 98% of the total time is spent in garbage collection and less than 2% of the heap is recovered, an OutOfMemoryError will be thrown."."

What can you tell me about this mate? Also I hope you know I realize you're not tech support, and I am very appreciative of you, your guide, and your time! I just want to play SS+! ;p

I mean, I only tried it once, I am just a little afraid to try it again. Should I be typing in a multiple of 8, thousands of Mb, or are you certain typing 3g, 6g, etc, will function right? =s? If I move the jre7 into the root folder, I edit vmparams, right, and changing the start and max is all I do? *scratches head*

I downloaded JRE7 64bit, I went to where it defaults to in C:'s program files, not in the x64 section. I took the JRE7 folder, moved it to the Starsector core folder, deleted the old JRE folder and renamed JRE7 to just 'jre', as normal, and then I edit vmparams to replace xms1024m and xmx1024 with 3g and 6g respectively (I have 8gb of memory). What do you think?

Hey D.R thank's for the reply.

I did not realize that Java would install itself to the right place depending on the version I got, so I just assumed that I knew better in the past, and already had 64bit version, but I did not.

However, after setting it up properly. setting xms to 3g and the max to 6g, trying to load my safe caused windows to totally freeze after an audio glitch about 50% through loading the save. I had to force restart the computer, and I'm restarting it now. What do you think could have caused that? I have 8g of RAM.
