Mods / Re: [0.95.1a] Ship/Weapon Pack 1.13.0
« on: July 01, 2022, 02:57:53 PM »
Has anyone figured out a way to beat the "I'll Kill You All" IBB bounty? I just... it's just... forget the sporship, this bounty is beyond hard. I don't get how I can approach it. These ships have double the stats of any ship and move twice as fast, not to mention the 4x DPS on all their weapons. I have a fully decked out fleet with IBB ships and omega weapons (as many as I could find) and I can't even scratch them. It feels hopeless, like these guys were put here to be invincible. Help!

I wonder how difficult it is to update the minimum required to be compatible with 0.95.1a. I know this mod has tons of special code and I have no idea what I'm talking about so maybe it's just too much of an undertaking for now.

Donated. Love the work Meso does and good people deserve help when needed + they will always pay it forward someday.

Is it possible to get their blueprints?

I want to make a holy faction and launch a crusade with them

I'm pretty sure you can't. You can always just fight them over and over and capture/restore their ships until you have a fleet of Templar Death. Also if you install ship/weapon pack you can get a couple really cool unique Templar ships.

Crazy news! The most famous and unique mod from version 0.7 is back online!

Well none of the campaign stuff is there though so its just the system with the Templar planet and patrols. Still though, it's nice to have them back and use their weapons. I guess this means we'll see an update someday with more stuff! What a great faction.

Also keep in mind performance will be appalling with AMD video cards on Windows, but less so on Linux...
I was thinking of upgrading GTX 980 to RX 5700 XT recently and I would have ordered the card already if i didn't run into posts like these. I am in a really big dilemma because funny enough starsector is that good of a game that I'm thinking of going for 2070 SUPER instead, but I'd rather have a dualboot with linux if that would gurantee me at least similar performance to my GTX 980. If anyone tech-savvy could confirm this for me I'd greatly appreciate it.

Alright, from my experience as the owner of a RX 5700, I can tell you that this card is absolutely NOT recommended for Starsector. The problem is that the newer AMD cards have subpar OpenGL support, and when it comes to older revisions of the OpenGL standard (like Starsector uses), support goes from subpar to literally non-existant. Seriously, an old game I have no longer benefits from any form of hardware acceleration and is now executed on the CPU...

If you have an older (4 years or so) AMD card you will probably have a much better experience, at the time AMD had not gone full-bore on Vulkan and was still paying some attention to OpenGL. However you will probably have to hunt for a specific set of drivers for the card (there's a post somewhere in these forums where an user tells the exact version of the Detonator AMD drivers that actually worked fine for the game).

And if this all sounds like the hassle it is, you can simply opt for a nVidia card and sidestep it completely...

This really explains a lot, thanks. If this is so it would explain why I haven't been having all these AMD problems with my r9 390 (5 year old card). I will definitely wait and see what new hardware is coming from AMD/Nvidia since i want to upgrade the card and Starsector is one of the main games I play.

The part where it is an Nvidia graphics card.  The number of posts where people have top of the line AMD cards and perf issues is real.

I was always surprised by this. I have an R9 390 (5 year old AMD card) on a Ryzen 2700x and the game runs pretty damn well, very heavily modded too. It would be nice to have some real data from tests done properly with different cards instead of always anecdotal information.

Running a Ryzen 7 2700x, 32GB and an older r9 390 with no major issues with quite a lot of mods and all graphics libs enabled. Some huge fights can slow down but other than that it runs smooth at 1440p resolution.

General Discussion / Re: T3 Orbital stations

There was an old thread where someone tested a bunch of station balance stuff.
https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=15758.msg269764#msg269764

What an interesting read. At tier 3 they seem to all be balanced. BTW what's an OCI fortress?

I used to run it on an i5 2500k with an r9 390 (about same as a 570) without too many issues at 1080p but it would start to struggle a lot in bigger fights. I upgraded the whole PC last year except the GPU and now run an AMD R7 2700x CPU and the difference is night and day. With the same GPU (r9 390) I'm running it very well at 1440p, same mods and only notice slowdowns in really big fights but nowhere near what it was with the old CPU. The CPU is definitely the most important part in my opinion. A lot of people are saying that Nvidia cards run this game better though so take that into consideration. Maybe others can chime in.

Would be nice if this didn't count as an "industry" because its benefit is often extremely short term. (even the supplies and fuel it generates in the long term are so few to matter). I'd prefer if it was more of a "project" or "expedition" that takes a year and then is done, giving you everything in one lump sum without taking up an industry slot.

Completely agree. It doesn't make sense to me for this to be an industryand take up a very valuable industry slot for something that is not so important.

Newb question here. Where do I have to go, what do I have to do, for the best chances at a Vanguard?

Vanguard is a pretty common ship. You should have no trouble buying one from black markets. Just look at around at a few planets until you find one. You can also try capture them from fighting pirates.

Well in vanilla you have the Tempest. Fast, deadly equally strong as an attack ship or defensive and scales really well the more of them you have. A bit expensive though. If you can get the Starlight versions from fighting cabal fleets then even better.

« on: December 15, 2019, 05:32:21 AM »
Hello. I'm reinstalling Starsector and mods on a new PC and I need Vayra's sector v 3.04. How can I download it? My save file isn't compatible with the latest 3.1.1 and I don't have access to my old installation of starsector to copy the 3.04 of Vayra's sector. Thanks for any help! I tried searching but have failed terribly...

I'm having trouble finding LC Legions and Onslaughts. Are they supposed to be purchasable in LC military colonies? I see Cathedrals and other LC skinned ships from this mod but not the aforementioned 2 which I would love to get as I'm playing an LC run now.
