Modding / You guys remember that Fairy mod?
« on: February 17, 2015, 04:52:09 AM »
I've been playing a lot of X3:AP lately and by god, do the Fairy ships look so much like Terran ships. Same white/red trim colourations and very similar design aesthetic.

Discussions / RPG Theme Of Choice
« on: January 21, 2015, 12:22:42 PM »
What are your favourite RPG themes?

My selection all come from Breath of Fire IV, currently playing it through on an emulator. My uncle had it when I was young and I never got very far in it, so I thought I'd grab an emulator to try it again. Gawd damn, I'm having some feels playing it through. But I guess that means it's good, right?

So have a feelsy track from the game which is a perfectly good track without context. When the game is not throwing feels at me, it's going to the other end of the spectrum entirely[/url. Next up is my [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkfc5Zjb2QY]favourite town theme of the ones I've heard. Lastly, a fighting theme which I love to hear for the bit that's about 30 seconds in.

So what are your favourites? Two general pieces of music, a town theme and a fighting theme. And don't link "Let the Battles Begin", I think everyone's played or heard that game, even if it does a nice bit about a minute into the theme.

EDIT:
How does one not have youtube videos appear as what were meant to be url links?...

Discussions / FTL: CE
« on: April 10, 2014, 08:42:52 AM »
Any of you guys play FTL? Y'all know how AE (Advanced Edition, free expansion) was released a little while ago? zoidberg Why not Captain's Edition? A mod that expands upon what is put in place by AE. More guns, more events, more augments, more pewpew, more FTL.

Personally, I'm using CE Infinite which drags the game out substantially for a game to be played over several hours (if successful) instead of 40 minutes. I got pretty lucky early on, a derelict ship yielded a Burst Laser IV while the next store I docked at was selling the Maul. Traded all my starting weapons for the Maul and invested heavily in weapons. The Maul is a 5-damage (meaning it always pierces shields and wrecks unshielded ships) beam that also has a considerable chance to breach the hull, however it's beam length is about a pixel long to stop you crossing rooms with it. Since then, my ship is nearly fully upgraded and I still have SO MUCH SCRAP. Those upgrades are off the charts because of the larger scale of playing. Another thing is that with CE Infinite, you can jump "sideways". Meaning instead of reaching Sector 5 with your stock weapons because no store has been selling weapons you want or have been out of your price range, you can go from Sector 1 to another Sector 1 until you're ready to move into Sector 2 levels of difficulty. Advancing closer to the Federation Base also uses 10 fuel and as you can see, I'm somewhat lacking in fuel and regularly run out, forcing me to sit still and use distress beacons. Oh and check this out. If you've played FTL:AE, you should know what that first augment is. I can deploy it in any fight for the low low cost of 4-5 missiles. And I have so many missiles.

Modding / Getting outdated mods to play nice
« on: March 18, 2014, 02:59:26 PM »
After making brief mention of Ascendancy in the Neutrino Corp thread, I figured I wanted to play it a bit, but alas, it's outdated and Psiyon has removed the downloads until he can make it work. Rummaging through my Recycle Bin, I discovered a couple ascendancy mod folders, pulled out the latest one that I had and dumped it on my desktop to work with it.
I knew the ships wouldn't work due to CR being implemented and I didn't want to try and mess with that, hell I'd probably just make all ships heal in a day and use 1 CR per ship for simplicity's sake. Instead, I just tried to implement the weapons. Grabbed all the weapon files and dumped them into another mod's weapon folder (Valkyrians, to be exact), added all the weapons to the other mod's weapon_data and sorted it out so it all lined up in the spreadsheet.
Start the game up, s'all good, no crashes. Load up game, s'all good, no crashes. Flick on console commands, spawn an Ascendancy weapon, s'all good, no crashes. Mount weapon to my sh- ABORT ABORT MAYDAYMAYDAYMAYDAY. Huh... "niafire", I guess I forgot the weapon sounds, durp. Lemme just go grab those and copy-paste them into the other mod's fx folder. There. Give my slow-ass craptop a couple minutes to load. *gets some soup* And back, and do it all again, spawn weapon, mount wea- nope... Is that the same error?
Well now I'm at a loss.... It probably would've been easier to just give all the ships 1 CR, 1 supply/day and 1 supply/full repair....

Suggestions / Flagship always taking center point.
« on: September 17, 2013, 01:38:57 PM »
Possible to have the flagship of any fleet always flying in the center of the fleet? One could tell the flagship with a passing glance and I'm also quite a fan of seeing a singular larger ship have "lesser" ships flying around it, while the HSDF looks like a barely-cohesive swarm of angry hulking ships with their sometimes double or triple Onslaughts.

Bug Reports & Support / A fight with.....nothing?...
« on: June 10, 2013, 10:38:20 AM »
Playing the Exerelin mod and... this happened. The fleet I fought was the medium sized one between the other two fleets. As you can see, there ARE ships in the fleet. I just didn't fight any of them. No xp earned, no credits earned, no loot salvaged, entire independant fleet spontaneously exploded afterwards, despite nothing happening. I did autoresolve this fight, even if only by mistake.

Modding / Low/High action music
« on: June 07, 2013, 11:33:38 PM »
Have any modders thought to make custom music for starfarer, one low and one high action?

Tha hell do I mean by that?
Ever played Borderlands, or Borderlands 2? Ever noticed how the music kicks it into high gear when you get into a serious fight?

Low
High

Anyone enough of a composer as to make music for their mods that's essentially a calm track for when cruising in the campaign, and then a more tense one for when in a fight?

At the moment, I'm tempted to go open up Ascendancy and hijack re-appropriate borrow the code from there to implement some borderlands music into my own starfarer.

Bug Reports & Support / A bigger Java RAM allowance.
« on: April 30, 2013, 09:16:31 AM »
Is there a way to allow Starfarer more RAM to use? My game regularly crashes if it approaches 1GB, so I'd like to give it like, half a gig more to use so that it can comfortably hit 1GB and carry on going without just going hrrk and flopping over. It might just be a problem with my craptop, because when it gets close to that 1GB limit, the screen often goes black after which, the screen comes back to life, starfarer having closed itself and a popup saying the display driver died and came back to life.
