General Discussion / Tech mining in .97 (Updated)

I decided to do a full archeologist run and instead of serious colonies i built size 3 ones whenever i found vast or extensive ruins.
So far i had fully excavated (combed over multiple times message) 5 vast and 8 extensive ruins.
Results:
-A bunch of standard resources (metal/fuel/supplies) and weapons.
-Two new blueprints: vanguard and monitor.
-0 colony items.

Am i having a horrible case of bad luck or is tech mining seriously that bad?

!!!Update:
I explored the whole sector and after farming alpha cores colonized and tech mined ALL vast and extensive ruins.
Results:
-more junk
-no blueprints
-1 pristine nanoforge, 1 orbital fusion lamp

Final conclusion: tech mining is almost 100% worthless.

Bug Reports & Support / Rescued Miners bug

I saved some miners abandoned on a planet with volatiles and every time i visit a planet(any) i get a dialogue to drop them off, but there is an error that does not let me do that.
Any idea how to at least disable that quest? It's not in active quest list so i can't even abandon it normally.

I see this hullmod getting a serious nerf soon.
+40% range for my sunders and enforcers just for being close to a capital? Yesplz.
Destroyers are no longer garbage and with this thing, they make things go boom really well.

CP was a great early game skill i removed mid/late game when i had money for all the fuel i needed.
I am really curious what was the reason behind nerfing it, was it really so op?

I am horrible at combat and i decided my fleet should look as well as my skills: all banged up and overcompensating with numbers.
Pick  Derelict Operations and Support Doctrine skills and tactics will go out the window since you can suddenly field so much more dp compared to your enemy.
I just spam 20 Eradicators and watch things go boom.

Finally a 'tactic' my tiny gamer brain can use. ^_^

Whenever i see 1milion credits illegal arms dealer i know my problems are done. I buy 10-15 of whatever frigate i decide on(or something bigger), some guns for it and Bob's your uncle, early/midgame is mine.
I think illegal arms dealer quality should be gated to something like character level or time past.

I know it doesn't make sense from lore perspective, but those guys (1m credits ones) fix all early/mid game problems, they literally have ALL guns and ships that matter you just have to pay premium for them which mean doing a few exploration quests.

I've seen some people complaining about wayfarer being a weak hybrid ship, but that's not what it is.

Give it Extra cargo + fuel tanks, Unstable Injector and Safety Overrides and Hardened Subsystems plus a pair of vulcans behind it to protect engines and you have a perfect exploration + escape vehicle.
I tried a few early game ships, but if you don't want to savescum this is the best early game exploration vessel that can actualy carry some stuff (shepherd has cargo too, but it sucks at running away).
...and it has plenty of room you can stretch your legs in.

I searched the whole sector and failed to find a single pristine nanoforge so i decided to steal it from the hegemony.

But.... i forgot i had nexerelin and random assortment of things installed and mine field around Chicomoztoc adds another 2.5 defense multiplier.

My final raid was made of 20 starliners full of marines with +50% ground operations skill 'stealthily' stealing the nanoforge and i can't stop laughing about noone raising a stink about it, story point raid or not.

Edit: The exact number or marines needed is 32k. Everything i stole after this required only a fraction of marines.

I think it would be easer and cheaper to just call invasion fleets on all hegemony worlds and be done with it.
...but that's just quitters talk and seeing hegemony with all those dmods is pure satisfaction. ^_^

Suggestions / 'Fly to the closest gate' button and gate network on the map.

Gates are incredibly useful, but having to go to intel tab, click on the gates button and after that click on accepted missions is soooo tedious.

A button to order your fleet to fly to the closest gate and a toggleable option in the intel tab and the map to see gates on the map and all intel options would be amazing.

Either that, or 'go the shortest route, including the gate network' travel option which would ignore the gate menu and just use it.

I love transport x amount of y to z quests but i'm curious if they ever stop scaling.

Yesterday i got a quest to deliver 25k of something(i forgot) for almost 800k bitcoins.

I am really curious if there is a limit to it(other than running out of fleet space for Atlases).

In nexerelin my brand new colonies almost always end up bombed into oblivion by main factions over and over(Thanks to random diplomatic events + everyone being a prick).

In vanilla i got along with everyone like a freaking carebear and it worked.
In nexerelin after getting bullied relentlessly i decided to sell bombs to pathers, made friends with pirates and remnants and invaded every god damn world i could easily get to and gave it to independents, the only faction that didn't screw me over.

I love this game.  ;D

General Discussion / Astral feels like a waste of dp.

I love the way astral looks and the ship system is fun too but whenever i use it my inner bean counter is screaming at me for not using something else like 2x prometheus mk2 or even 6x condor.

6 fighter bays and 2 awkwardly placed large missile racks and a couple of small/medium energy for 60 dp is a horrible deal.

After running a bunch of bounties with astral for support i swapped it for 2x prometheus mk.2 and everything became easier. 2x prom combined have same dp cost.
Main differences(from both proms combined):
Lose 2 fighter bays
Gain 4x large hybrid slots
swap medium energy slots to medium ballistics
Swap shield quality to way more armor and hull
Speed! Astral has 30 speed while proms have 50 + burn drive.

Heck i got way more use out of 6 condors with unstable injectors. Doubling fighter bays for the same cost.


I love the idea of astral the mega carrier but for 60dp there are so many better support options.

Maybe give it something like built in faster fighter replenishment or something?

I love those things, i used to get different transports and tankers but is there a point anymore?

With built-in insulated engines those things get 30 sensor profile and have 75 detection.

Bulk transport gives them +2 burn, stick Augumented drive field on them and you have a 10burn transport/tanker with a frigate sensor profile and more space for junk/fuel you will ever need before you start lugging 10 capitals around.

Suggestions / More ways to gain experience.

Right now the only good ways to gain experience are combat and making good trades.
Exploration gives anemic exp good for the first 2-3 levels.

Finishing missions gives you big fat nothing. Gaining exp for completing missions would be a nice alternative.
