Alternatively I'm imagining the pirates literally just bolting the guns on top of the cargo space, ha! Silly pirates.
they could be offering special tours that let customers experience the thrill of battle and force of heavy weapons like never before!

Seatbelts not included for the most genuine experience.

  • Doom:
    • Changed medium missile hardpoints to "synergy"
    • New ship system, "Interdictor Array"

That's where we got the idea from. ;D

Suggestions / "Dynamic Mounts" instead of "Synergy Mounts"?
« on: February 26, 2016, 09:08:29 PM »
Just a thought. Synergy almost implies that two weapons can "synergise" together, Dynamic seems to fit the "versatility" (more choices, one or the other) bill better, while still retaining the "high tech" feel.

Wasn't the Doom supposed to have its Medium Missile mounts changed to Synergy? Don't think this has been mentioned yet (or perhaps it has and I'm just blind).

Also, the Mudskipper Mk.II has the same cargo and crew capacity as the normal version. Seems like it should be greatly reduced.

A very quick thought: how's "Dynamic" sound compared to "Synergy" for energy/missile mounts? Synergy sounds nice but seems a bit out of place (it almost implies you can use two weapons in one to "synergise"), Dynamic sounds more "versatile" while retaining a high tech feel.

My opinion of course.

I think the military doctrine of later eras focus more on speed and range rather than line-of-battle staying power, hence the focus on fast frigates and strike craft supported by heavy, dedicated carriers (which sort-of reflects modern day navy doctrine shifts since WWII). I really think that a high-tech cruiser carrier is warranted as I don't see every Expansion-era carrier fleet including an Astral.

As I said before, I think hull mods in general should not be something you want to change often, due to restrictions on when and where you can change them and/or heavy penalties for doing so. IMO All modifications should take time proportional to the amount of OP being added/changed, and modifications outside of a dock should take longer, during which the modified ship's burn speed is reduced; and the CR hit should be harsher.

Related to this, currently all actions in station are pretty much instant. Given that NPC fleets now spend some time doing their thing (trade fleets offloading cargo), perhaps the player should too. Making hull refits take time would be a good start.

I don't see why it couldn't do both. Major modification to your ships should carry heavy penalties to discourage frequent changes, and will also solve issues like this one.

Sadly, I find this rather realistic.

Maybe refitting could require time, more so if you try to do this outside a dock + a speed debuff while refits are in progress. The amount of time required for each ship could be proportional to the amount of OP that was modified. It doesn't make much sense for large-scale modifications like reinforced hulls to be instant anyway.

Bug Reports & Support / Borer Drones Ship System uses Wrong Icon

It uses graphics/icons/hullsys/drone_pd_mid.png, but I see there is a graphics/icons/hullsys/drone_borer.png.

And another one.
Codex, Mule freighter, fourth line: "Often it's captains casually ferry cargo to and from between star systems...". There's an m missing.
Againy, sorry if it already found by someone else.

EDIT: The same goes for the defective mules.

That isn't a typo.

I don't see a problem with the Gemini being superior to the Condor (although why it has great cargo capacity when the Condor has to sacrifice most of the Tarsus's capacity for its flight deck is a mystery). The Condor after all is a manual conversion for fleets that can't get a real carrier, in that I see it as being similar to the Buffalo Mk.II conversion.

Not exactly a typo per se, but in the codex, ship skins that aren't defective (with the defective paragraph added) don't even get the base ship's description, it just says "no description... yet".

The Venture, Atlas and Odyssey aren't meant to be dedicated carriers, I think they're fine at 1 deck. The Condor is low-tech, developed/modified during a time when strike craft were not that prevalent, so I think it's fine at 1 deck too. My preference is to see a new Cruiser-sized, high-tech carrier with 3 decks, IMO that will be enough to bridge the gap between Heron and Astral (plus it will make the Heron's "fast Carrier" designation mean more if there is a "slow" Carrier of equivalent tonnage to be compared to).

Carriers in general shouldn't be good brawlers... in terms of Destroyer-sized carriers, both the Condor and the Gemini are (derived from) freighters, so I don't think it makes sense for them to be even decent at "brawling".
