I agree that infinite command points is a bad idea, but i DO think there should be some way to get them back during a battle, like by canceling an assignment. This will help to offset some of the frustration of running out of command points and losing/dying directly as a result of not being able to issue commands. It would also be a lot more forgiving, if you give a command and realize that's not what you wanted to do, like putting a rally point in the wrong place, you could just cancel it and create it somewhere else.

Also, it would make a lot more sense to say that it's not how many commands you can issue total thats limited, but how many you can issue at one time. 


that will be alex's decision of course, as I'm sure he can come up with something better than I can for this functionally. (my idea might result in the same issue there was before.)

the main idea is just getting points back somehow.

looking at that screenshot, i was reminded of something that has been bugging me.

the UI there is very unbalance, everything is piled in the left corner, and there is almost nothing in the right corner. moving the weapon display to the right corner would possibly fix this.

anyway, just something to think about. perhaps I will make a more in depth topic about this later.

there wouldn't be enough space on the ship to carry enough fule for a long trip. it's would make a lot more sense to pick up fuel as you go.

in that case, it seems that the pilot skill could become a factor in determining how many ships make it back. if the only ship left has a novice pilot, he wouldn't be able to wrestle as many ships back as an experienced one.

I have been thinking, the way the starfarer campaign seems to be turning out, it could potentially fit the use of some RTS elements, especially when it comes to establishing bases. Each base would be created from different space station types that would allow for different things, such as training facilities, extra resources storage, defense, etc. From this base, you could train personell, build your ships, research advancement, etc.

there is a carrier in the game currently, and it just stores/repairs/refits fighter squads, however, there might be future plans for them.
