Meanwhile most of those issues are from you guessed it. Bad computers / too many mods / poorly coded mods.

I hope you realize that is a very small sample size right? Meanwhile you are still using a mod list that contains some poorly coded mod(s) that leak memory.

Did you happen to have a handy-dandy list of 'These mods leak memory'...?  If you've got a laminate, that would be even better.  All I can really use is the sticky from the Dev to go off of.

No one does, it is actually quite difficult to pin down. Also why do you keep chain posting? You can quote multiple times in a post :)

Yes really, I have provided technical support to *thousands* of players. More than anyone else besides Alex himself. And almost every time someone complains of such issues they are a living meme of a poor computer specs (which you still haven't listed) and / or using a hideous number of mods. Often times poorly coded mods that contain memory leaks themselves. If you are getting memory leaks, guess what that tells me? And it isn't java's fault.

Your opinions are based on false information, that is built upon a sample size that is multiple orders of magnitude smaller than mine.

Need to check my chipset?  Bus speeds?  If I have Lasso prioritizing processors correctly?  My temperature control monitoring?
Maybe my processor has come unglued from my power supply.

......
......... to be clear, that was a joke.
Don't use glue when you can use wood screws, amiright?
If you want to be taken seriously? Stop shitpoasting.

There are so many points here, that I simply cannot make time to reply to them all or even really the vast majority of them especially when in a ramble format across multiple posts like that.

But what I will do is address the elephant in the room and ask you two simple questions. What are your system specs, and what is your mod list? I have a feeling knowing that info would be quite enlightening.

Announcements / Re: Starsector 0.95.1a (In Development) Patch Notes

Personally I'm really not feeling these Heavy Mauler changes (unlike pretty much everything else in the log), if anything I could see the old version just being slightly more accurate and calling it a day. A burst like that on the Nu-Mauler, even with low DPS is really punishing especially since medium slots are so common and spammable. Is exactly the sort of weapon a few mods have done over the years, and usually end up getting removed or reworked.

I have always generally read the lack of any ballistic alpha / burst weapons that are not KE not existing for ballistic slots except for larges as an intentional design decision and a good one at that. While energy gets alpha / burst at every size which segues with the ships that use them.

I'm getting terror images in my head, of Heavy Mauler spam... And every time a ship overloads or vents, it instantly gets tens of shells dumped at it at long range and armor stripped instantly. And unlike missiles, or say Hellbores, good luck really even trying doing anything about it during the moment.

Tiandong Heavy Industries has a campaign rig that is more complex than any other faction mod by several orders of magnitude. Often times the things sacrificed best practices so they could actually be done in a reasonable time frame. Tested heavily to be sure it worked fine, thus it fit the definition of it is stupid and it works then it isn't stupid. It has the side effect though of making it difficult to update properly without either already being deeply familiar with its code base or spending a LOT of time doing a code review of everything even stuff the IDE is not puking blood on.

I saw the post a while back from the Anon who did the bootleg update, he literally said he shitted it together, and put it out there with no testing beyond making sure it started up. That, combined with the previous points stated, in addition to reports from players who told me they had problems with the bootleg is why I am saying with total honesty... That it is a Bad Idea to use it.

Do as you will though, is your game to *** up. Just please don't distribute it :)

There's an unofficial 0.95 version to be found elsewhere which seems to work reasonably well.
Where?  I'd like to run this in the mean time given the long time delay we are likely looking at.
I would advise against using that unofficial update by Anon as it unstable and also because other reasons :)

General Discussion / Re: TFW you turn off all sounds...
« on: August 22, 2021, 11:16:34 PM »
The sound is amazing
I don't see whats so amazing myself, still the fact that FPS got better from turning off the sound probably means doing so litterally stops processes in the .exe calling to playing sounds thus reducing CPU usage...?

Sound players are often a significant system resource cost in pretty much every game.

This is just as true today, if not even more so than it was in 2014... AMD video card drivers are very bad.

I meant in general, even just ones that occur during gameplay.

SS ships have enough engine power that if one was to take off from ground level at full burn? Rhode Island would glow blue for a few centuries. They have relativistic levels of acceleration, they care not for atmospheres heh.

There is your lore reason for why this is a bad idea. Intrinsic_parity covered gameplay ones.

The way this general idea would make the most sense to me is make the condition only exist around derelict ships on the campaign layer... And it only spawns said derelict ship(s) into battle as floating hulks with the same damage, hullmods, and weapons they would have if you salvaged then. Just acting as bigger tougher asteroids. And if you destroy them during the battle? It has a chance of removing them from the campaign layer as well.
