Well every time your ship blows up you use an escape pod so it's rather foolish to believe that other ships don't have them. A rational explanation would be that after boarding a ship and clearing out any resistance you simply pack the losers into escape pods, or shuttle craft for larger ships, and send them on their merry way while you fly off in your brand new capital ship.

Suggestions / Re: good publicity

(facepalm) Wow, I really need to check how I type comments sometimes. I meant to say, "I guess.... Regardless of the fact that it could have been shown to a bigger audience, shouldn't a game's review have a good light (view) about it rather than a bad one?" Does that not have an influence on an audiences view?

Um still, what the ?????

He's trying to say that a good review with a smaller viewer count is better than a bad review with a higher viewer count.

Now take into account the yogscast's "fanbase" which has about as many collective brain cells as a dish rag and a vocabulary to match and it shapes up to something less than beautiful. (I like the yogscast btw, I just choose to completely ignore the video comments which are generally filled with "baww we wan mor izrafel", and people hoping to leech off of their success.)

Don't ever think that the paragon can stand toe to toe with the Onslaught... you'll just get slaughtered by the autocannons and then the H assault guns. If you want to try it, try it with 4 tachyon lances. You might survive

I simply do not understand everyone's collective hard on for the Onslaught's "offensive capabilities". Compared to the Paragon the Onslaught is a joke and a bad one at that, sweep it with the lance two or three times and the A.I. is left with two choices: keep the shield up and be a turtle or drop the shields and risk getting obliterated by the Paragon's superior weapons package. It's all a matter of distance, and positioning, when you get right down to it. The Paragon packs just as much of a punch (with a longer reach no less!) but is much more maneuverable than the Onslaught and can therefore stay out of range of the majority of the Onslaught's defenses while the Onslaught's only hope for victory is a reliance on strike craft and fighters to (hopefully) flame-out the Paragon's engines so it can position itself for an optimal assault.

EDIT: Just went head to head against an Onslaught with a standard Paragon.... I blew it out of the sky like I was playing Duck Hunt

That orbital fusion cannon is nuts. I was playing Forlorn Relics 2 and I fired it at an Onslaught Battleship; it destroyed the Onslaught, the hound and tarsus sitting behind it, blew through the top of my monitor, and burned a hole in my roof. I cried tears of joy at its sheer ridiculousness so well done I say well done indeed on the only REAL death-ray I've seen in Starfarer.

i dont know if it is still bugged cause the game crashes now because of the update but before when i played it one of the cruisers in this mod (cant remember what it was called but it had orange flames and looked like a VERY old design) would make any and every enemy ship run away... i had only that one cruiser and whent against a fleet with joyous classes and let the second in command handle it. every single time the cruiser took no damage and the enemy fleet would be mostly destroyed or retreated. i think this is caused by the fact that the tiny frontal shield on this ship dosent have a flux cost and the damage absorbed is 0.0.... it was indestructible from the front. also this is what happens when you add stupidly overpowered light weapons from this mod onto a ship from another mod... and its beautiful... http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=7aFWvtoPVb4&vq=hd720

I like how you blew up the lasher class by running into it and it had about as much of an effect on your ship as a fly hitting a windshield.

General Discussion / Re: Tachyon Lance vs. High Intensity Laser
« on: May 06, 2012, 10:03:45 AM »
tachyon lance is a sniper. HIL is a support weapon. Those are two completley different roles.
Yeah, I think I asked the wrong question, there is no "best weapon" here. I just would like to know, given a large energy slot, what would people use more often, the sniper, or the support weapon ;)

And, let's not forget about something very important - Tachyon Lance is purple. It's like a better phase beam (which by the way, I find inferior to Gravitation Beam, sadly :( )!
Sniper. Range is almost as important as damage, and the range on that is godly enough to pick off a good 3rd or so off a big fleet in the first few moments of the battle, not to mention being an insane anti fighter weapon (set one as your target and swing the lance back and forth between the wing, they'll suffer flameouts, lose fighters and be very badly hit)
Yes, I've learned that the best way to utilize the Tachyon Lance is to swing it around like some medieval knight with a broadsword. Having two on the front of a Paragon generally means that anything that dares to mess with you will die with the tachyon lance being the last thing they ever see. I have never been able to say the same about the HIL, as hydre said it feels more like an overgrown gravitron beam than a death ray.

Disregard my last post, it has been cast out into the aether of the internet everything is fine, nothing is broken. .JAVA simply had to be changed to .java. Yes Uomoz I have come to you with MORE java/linux related syntax errors. Java hates linux and I can't say linux feels any different. Carry on with your work a day windows lives while I live in the shadows and wage a never ending war against linux/java bigotry.

Edit: Which you fixed before I was able to finish my monologue on injustice... YES! FEEL THE MIGHT OF COMMUNITY FEEDBACK.(You're still a saint btw. Saint Uomoz, patron saint of fixing java syntax errors for linux weirdos)

Whoever made that Cerberus Class Assault Frigate needs to get locked away for making such a death machine. Duct tape a heavy blaster and  staple a burst pd laser to it's hull and it's like strapping a bazooka to a go-cart, s***'s blowing up everywhere and it's fast enough that most things can't even touch it. Watch out though, if it gets hit by anything bigger than a baseball it'll get blown away like a trailer in a tornado. It's a shame the only way I've ever gotten one was by editing the faction fleet files, it's a rush to say the least. ;D

Indeed I am using mighty penguin, and Hallelujah! Gone are the days when the IF base occupied the ass crack of the system. ;D That base was WAAAAY out in the boonies.

26
Thanks for the find Sarkovar, it's been fixed in IFed v1.161.

No problem, I live to serve.

a selection of ships that are outgunned by everyone

Hold your horses there hombre, I don't take too kindly to no tinhorn puttin' down my lasher class frigate skills, I don't get out-gunned by nothin' short a' cruisers and them new(-ish) fangled Tri-Tach witchcraft machines.

Found a typo in the dev build that crashes the game at the initial loading screen. When the big scary claw satellite of DOOOOM (a.k.a. the Earthcracker)'s hull file searches for the folder "interstellarfederation" it decides to rage quit because the folder is actually named "interstellarFederation" and it refuses to admit that its the same damn thing.

Aside from that and the plague rider and spreader hull files still containing the same typos that cause crashing I haven't had any problems
with the dev build.
