The new sounds won't be any softer or nicer, though! Still bad ass but more bad ass like Christian Bale's Batman and less bad ass like Jim Carrey's The Riddler.

Pretty stoked to hear what you've got going! Makes we wish I had 5.1 surround sound for my computer... 8)

Actually, Magicka had some interesting beam sound effects - sorta like the droning of a very large electric motor.

You could even make a community game out of it by uploading a brief few seconds of the new weapon sounds or whatever to https://soundcloud.com/ and have everyone try to guess which sound is going to belong to what! ;D

General Discussion / Re: shield flux/second stat
« on: February 09, 2013, 10:02:55 PM »
Yeah, shields up does raise flux which is why when your weapons are firing you want to keep your shields off for as long as possible in order to give all flux dissipation to the weapons.

I'm afraid at only 4 OP you sorta get what you pay for.

Don't let its very high DPS fool you - its a bunghole of a weapon. Shortest range in the game, horrid accuracy, and its fragmentation damage is terrible vs shields and armor. I get that its meant for PD but some of the fighters have decent armor and after 1 second of firing 50% or more of its shots will miss, IF it can even get range on its target. Its terrible sustained fire accuracy also makes it crap when dealing with multiple incoming missiles like a pilum salvo.

Not unless you want to edit your save file somehow or possibly use mods.

Yep, you need to spend some points into Leadership if you want to have a larger fleet. Can't just dump'em all into combat/technology.

Okay, so I've refitted my ***
Wha!?

Here is my low-tech super heavy mega-beast ballistic super armor fleet of ships. ;D The screenies below will show hull mods and weapon loadouts which is basically max vents, armor/hull boosting hull mods, and high-end ballistic weapons such as needlers, "dual" versions of weapons like the dual flak, heavy maulers, etc...

EDIT: Right click pic and open in a new tab if you don't run a high resolution or else it'll be badly cut-off. -_-

At 38000 hull, 2275 armor and more cannons than you can believe I give you the ISS God Hand:

Shield busting and long range support is the name of the game for Absolute, a dominator-class heavy cruiser.
Spoiler

She does it all: shield breaking with the hyper drivers, armor busting with the h mauler and annihilator rockets, and PD with twin dual flaks - the ISS Siege!

Small but vicious, this lasher-class frigate can take down shields with the needler and then shred armor with dual assault guns and harpoons! Twin dual machine guns swat missiles.

All of this is legit but does take a higher level character as you need to max the 3 OP granting skills but as soon as I got my first enforcer-class the game became easy mode. I currently have 2 enforcers, 2 lashers, 1 dominator and 1 onslaught and I can easily take out every fleet and only have issues with Hege Defense Fleets. Only ships I've lost after hours of play are the lashers that get overly aggressive and get too near to capitol ships found mainly in the TriTach fleets. My fleet does lack a way to rapidly acquire the capture points but I honestly don't even need them with my smaller fleet.

Mods / Re: Project Ironclads, version 4.4 (0.54.1 with the Rock Fly)
« on: January 25, 2013, 11:51:51 PM »
Damn, dude, that Rock Fly is amazing and really makes use of all the new modding options Alex has given everyone access to. Bar a few minor issues its quality is in par with what I'd expect Alex and David to come up with professionally! :O

I can only hope that we'll be seeing some organic nasties in vanilla Starsector cause your Rock Fly proves it can not only be done but also look awesome. :o

Yeah, strip them and THEN sell the weapons seperate from the hulls so if you want to rebuy one of the rarer weapon systems you won't need to buy the entire hull first...

Is it a Buffalo or Buffalo Mk 2? The Mk 2s are deathtraps and you should repair them and then sell'em off ASAP.

I personally dislike the Vigilance and would replace them with a Lasher or Wolf or even better go with a Tempest, though, those are really expensive.

If you favor fighter wings go with a Venture for your first cruiser as it has a flight deck, excellent missile support and is really quite durable. It can carry TONS of supplies too so you'll be able to loot everything no probs.

Just mothball the rest of your fleet at the abandoned station and get 2 Enforcers and a Lasher - with that you'll be at 25 Fleet Points and still be able to easily pwn most pirate fleets... just be sure to put 2 flak cannons on the sides of the Enforcers. ;D

I don't really understand... you need to win 1-2 small battles to be able to afford a second frigate and then you can easily take on the Hound + one/two fighter wing battles and even the Hound + Lasher battles.

Hunt the lone Buffalo ships dude! They have no shields, usually hold a fair amount of cargo and if you're lucky you'll get one of their antimatter blasters to sell for 1200.

When the game starts the Hegemony and Pirate bases are really close so if you get in a jam just fly into the middle of one of the giant Hegemony Defense Fleets to avoid battles. Your small 1-3 ship fleet should easily be able to outrun any of the larger pirate fleets that'd trounce you.
