Discussions / A quick hello and a friendly place in SC
« on: August 13, 2015, 05:23:31 PM »
Hi everyone.
Wow, been a long time, hasn't it?
I can't really remember when I took a break from SS. Suffice to say, it's great fun still and the gripes I had that drove me away have really been fixed. I've enjoyed coming back to the game and it's refreshing.
Cheers Alex. You remain in my eyes the greatest indie developer of all time. Balance is still top notch, feel is top notch, trading is excellently implemented etc. etc.
I continue to look forward to the new patches and development with renewed vigour.

While I've been gone, I moved into Star Citizen. I'm surprised to see not much is being spoken about of it here - after all, without this forum I'd have never known it existed. I've become really fondly involved with the wonderful community over there, I've also learned a lot about the project's details, including a lot of stuff you won't find written anywhere online. If you have any questions, even if it's as simple as 'is this a snake oil scam?'. Please, feel free to ask. I'll check back here semi-regularly. If I don't know, I'll ask one of the devs like Matt when they're in chat.
I know at least a few of you will be backers. Or maybe none? Whatever the case is, we've started an org (tonight actually) to give you a friendly place to stay in the 'verse.
I was a little surprised to see one didn't exist before.
It's here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/ISSF
You don't need to pledge to join, but we were just interested in helping band together this community in the crazy dense world that is SC.
We might or might not play together in game. We probably will cross paths, and probably blow each other up (though I'll win ;) ) but... well, when Operation Pitchfork is go and everyone starts invading Vanduul space at the end of beta, maybe we could bring an Onslaught to help, eh?

Other than that, I hope you're all well. I've finished AS levels and am just about to finish my last year of school. A terrible deal has changed in the time I've been gone, a lot of sad and a lot of happy. Mostly sad.

Other than that, Hi. I'm Xareh.

I am too busy to give you forty minutes in bullet points.
And I am too busy to listen to a couple of people whine for forty minutes about how they can't play the game properly.

If you're done with it, you sure do take a lot of effort into trying to draw attention to yourself regarding it.
That.
There we go with that aggressiveness again...

0.54a provides nothing of interest to me. As I already mentioned, I am done with SS. I have had hours of enjoyment from Starsector but I am now done with it. Unfortunately, I doubt any level of content can ever really bring me back.

But if there was anything to motivate me to come back, CR is one thing.

Sounds to me like you listened to a grand total of about ten minutes. If you'd listened to the end to - you'd know I'm not arguing for my sake! I'm done with SS! I don't care! I just want the game which in my opinion is better back, and I want to defend that stance.

Please, everyone - you have to listen to the whole thing. I am too busy to give you forty minutes in bullet points. What I have said there is also far better conveyed than I can in text.

I did, I said where i stopped listening. Arent you clever noticing. Im not listening to 40 minutes of you folks making poor arguments for your sake... there's always playing the last version forever, by the way. Its hilarious that apparently you are too busy to just write a post that will be much faster for people to read but apparently you have an hour to record. If the floundering i heard in that video is better conveyed than a well written post then you dont seem to have an argument worth making.
Why are you being so aggressive? What happened to this community in the time I've been gone?

So, me and Upgradecap are FIRMLY in opposition of combat readiness.

And guess what? Here is a 41 minute video of us explaining why.
Note: Bad language. We were furious.

There's no much to add, you just need to find fights in an efficient manner, they usually drop hundreds of supplies + credits. If you feel too slow try adding some Tugs.

magical strategy

I don't see any other complaint about this, so this must be a fairly common magic trick!
You've addressed none of my issues. As I've already said, I am good at the game, I know how to find fights - don't insult my intelligence with real basics like this. Therefore, I'll repeat again: tell me of your magical strategy that equips you to be so condescending towards me, because all I'm hearing right now is 'I'm Uomoz, therefore I am better than you.'. All I'm asking for is you to be constructive, but it appears you can't entertain that possibility.

38
Being decent at the game? Don't want to sound harsh bit I nave 0 issues maintaining my fleet in this version and making money is even easier then before.
Since you seem to want to help me out as well based on your condescending 'I'm Uomoz' tone, I'll ask you like BillyRueben to provide me with your strategy for handling increased supply costs instead of a deflection like that. I am decent at the game thank you very much, so please. Constructiveness.

39
Watch a let's play, or switch it to 50% damage until you get used to the changes.
OK, so you were lying then. You spoke to me as if you knew of some magical strategy or had some kind of capability to handle improved supply cost. This is neither. I don't need 50% damage, and I'm likely as good as all of the LP'ers. I'll ask again: tell me of your better strategy to handle the increased supply costs.

40
It really isn't as hard as you are making out to be. You just have to play a little differently.
Alright then, hit me if you have a better strategy. Because right now, I can't see any.

General Discussion / Re: Audio Review - 0.6a
« on: September 14, 2013, 04:13:31 AM »
- Some audio cues now much subtler
This is mainly the flux venting noise. Sometimes, earlier, you'd hear a ship venting just off screen and nail it with some Harpoons just in time. It's a lot subtler now and easily drowns in the sound of explosions. It's also such an iconic part of the game, and it deserves attention from the player. It should be a bit more prominent, if you ask me.

- Engine sounds are extremely quiet
For cruisers and up. Not everyone is playing with a subwoofer. I am, though, so I really feel it when there's an Onslaught on screen... but still, the engine sounds are overall very subtle now and have a tad less character from ship to ship. I'd like to see them given a tiny bit more prominence, I think we could stand to hear them a bit better. Especially the large ships, you won't notice them at all if you play with crummy headphones/on laptop speakers.

- Some sounds are inexplicably subtle/conservative given what weapon they represent.
The Mjolnir Cannon and TPC sound really dinky. They don't have much variation in-between sounds either. I feel like these weapons don't feel satisfying to use as a result, especially when the Gauss Cannon, Hellbore etc. are so awesome in comparison.
Really sound. Stuff like the antimatter blaster sound really weak now, engine sounds sound great to me and bigger ships are lovely and bassy but I have reference grade headphones. I never used the sound of venting as a method to find people though.

So many times I have hit esc to pause the game to alt tab and look at something, only to accidentally close the game and lose my progress. WHY?! I just pressed 'no' to the popup and it still closed the game! (bug) Pressing esc twice will also close the game. Really, really counter intuitive, really really silly. It would be a ton better if there was a full escape menu with 'Auto resolve' and 'exit game' and pressing esc twice closed the menu.

Well... yeah. 2K for 20 supplies when you drain them so fast? I'd rather spend those 2K credits on a ticket to the .csv files and fix those prices to something reasonable. Right now, it feels REALLY, REALLY artificially difficult. There's no supply shortage, the hegemony station has what, 12,000+ supplies on hand? Anyway, I fixed the prices back to 20 creds or so a piece and it's now way, way easier, before I - a player since early campaign, who played the game utterly to death and is now pretty much an ace at the game - couldn't even maintain a fleet of a Lasher and a Wolf. I was constantly desperating trying to battle pirates for supplies and creds as I enter a vicious cycle: ship needs supplies for repairs --> has no money or supplies --> go to battle, gain supplies, lose CR needing more supplies --> expend all supplies reaching, lightly surpassing or coming under CR before --> beginning again. Now I can actually be more complacent - I can buy enough supplies to repair my fleet, I can go into battle fully combat ready, I can get to the Tri Tach station without fear of total annihilation through accidents and maintain a fleet of a Wolf and a Wasp wing. Phew. I fully repair for 153 supplies, my daily usage drops to 1.3. Phew. I can actually progress.
