Nice.

I haven't needed to do the tutorial. Does it only force you the once when you start the campaign for the very first time on an install or something?
Maybe first time on an install... but I've played the game a lot, so that doesn't really work out.

« on: May 10, 2017, 05:04:09 AM »
Whilst I understand the need to have a tutorial to teach players how to play, forcing players - especially very experienced ones - to play a tutorial is a very dated and annoying tactic.
There are a wide number of reasons why, but pretty chief among them is just it's unnecessary to force players to do this.

I hardly think the EU will be "barraged by exit referedums". Not with the major hit to their economy the UK is curently taking (250b€ to save the banks from their troubles with the stock market this morning? Really? Two months after cutting disability pensions for 4.5b€ because UK "couldn't afford it"???) Or with Scotland reconsidering it's independence referendum. Unless they recover fast, I don't see anyone following in their footsteps. Also, you can expect the EU to negociate their exit in really harsh terms, both to get a positive economic balance out of this and also discourage other countries from leaving.

Also in France the Anti-EU parties did 13% last elections, so it is nothing comparable to what hapened in the UK.

What I do expect however is that people might take a closer look to the european elections in general and maybe even push toward changing a bit how it currently work.

UKIP won only 1 seat and 4M votes in the 2015 General Election. Brexit won by over 1M votes, a turnout of 70%, and 17M votes overall. Times change. The EU has a lot to handle.

I've been speaking with people all day from all across the world. Britain is halved between elation in victory, and disgusting hatefulness towards the democratic choices of others. And Europe? I've spoken to some who are laughing at Britain (and Britain laughs back at them), and others saying 'when's our turn'?
The EU will try to suppress it but the fact is simple - Britain voted out. Brexit happened. Remain was not able to woo with the status quo.
We have stepped through the mystery door. How exciting.

I was a Brexiteer too young to vote by just two days. My elation is beyond words.

Huzzah. Britain exercised its democratic right to self determination. For right or wrong, today, democracy is victorious. And what a victory against the appointed bureaucrats of Brussels.

This is HUGE. I can't stress enough how big this is though. Not merely will the face of British politics be changed forever (Cameron resigns, Corbyn is on no-confidence), but the EU itself is now going to be barraged by referendum requests by its members. This is the biggest event in Europe for decades.

Very exciting.

I also didn't really like the Avatar project, my first ever game I got majorly messed over by RNG and had no chance of reducing the progress within time, so I modded my save file to make it a non-issue and enjoyed it more normally.

General Discussion / Re: Is there alot of depth to this game?
« on: March 08, 2016, 06:05:32 AM »
Yeah, this game has a ton of depth in combat and, majorly, a very high skill ceiling. What makes it super interesting is the balance between weapons means you can really use whatever weapon you want - as long as your build makes 'sense'.

I don't know, I am super disconnected from what happens nowadays but with about five hundred or more hours in the game over the past three years, I was super surprised to be as frustrated as I was. I'm just bewildered facing six frigate pirate fleets and being incapable of finding anything smaller to sink the proverbial fangs into.

I didn't have problems with gaining credits after a fight though... and any advice would be supremely welcome!

Do you know that you can join fights in progress now?  In the first few fights of the game, until you unlock RFC or can afford a Wolf or whatever it takes to get over your personal difficulty cliff in the early game, it's worth sacrificing some of the bounty to join a battle between other factions.  Trail along with a decent sized Hegemony fleet that's heading towards Barad, and help it fight a couple of battles that you couldn't handle by yourself.  Help some poor Independent merchant fleet that's getting jumped by those same pirate fleets that A single Centurion or Lasher can easily get outflanked, but if you have a half dozen expendable Hegemony mooks or Independent merchant ships to tank for you, you should be able to win those first few battles.

If you're getting unavoidably chased down, you know you can Emergency Burn away and get that same speed boost the enemies are using right?  As of this version I believe they can't "cheat" and use Burn infinitely anymore so you can generally get away from fights you can't win.  It sounds like there's an element of bad luck here too, my game isn't lacking for Pirate Scouts which are one or two frigates.

Yeah, I actually got into a fight in progress - total mount and blade throwback, was really cool! Good idea I didn't consider on trailing with a larger fleet - and I'm genuinely serious, I couldn't find any Pirate Scouts :P

And I do need to make better use of emergency burn. Going to try doing some cargo today as well. Cheers!

So, hi, yeah, it's me - just played some 0.7.2a and wanted to give my thoughts. It's suuper nicely done, but I have two pretty major gripes with it... and they're killing my fun from this game.

I think the last patch I played was 0.6a or so, and I found it awesome. The trading was great, the bounty system made it way easier to afford supplies, there was meaningful progression that felt good. I was building a fleet and really enjoying and seeing where the game was headed.
I will say as, for dropping in after a very long hiatus, I'm confused as to where to begin. Should I start trading instead of combat? That's... eh.
It looks really slick and there's a lot of cool stuff in it... but even with the amount I have played this game I, well, found it unforgiving. Too unforgiving. I strongly dislike the much larger fleets and the weak starting options you get (I extremely dislike not being able to have a Wolf outside of 'easy' mode for instance - pushing my preference to a difficulty setting is a bit dismaying). I find the Lasher and Kite... not really my style at all.

I'm probably not using my transponder right or any other manner of new mechanics, but I found raw combat just bewilderingly difficult - and it's not a matter of skill, it's a matter of not even having the chance to use the tools that fit my style and fighting horrifically unfair fights. I miss the old fleet compositions where you could find a relatively fair fight - why are the only fights I can find now outnumbering me 3 to 1, worse still, why are they hounding me from halfway across the system, and why are they so easily chasing me down? Granted - I'm probably just really, really, really, really unlucky - and, with the time gap, really awful nowadays.

It's a pretty great game and a tour de force in gimmicky difficulty. At the end I was only afraid of bunching up troops because of unavoidable AOE attacks, avoid that and nothing was a problem. Game was a pathetic breeze after that - which was really disappointing, actually. Did have fun before that though.

Other than music, which I stream free online all the time, clothes, which for me costs a fair old chunk because reasons, and non-existent girlfriends, I have more than enough to waste on games.

I could easily drop another £200 today on Star Citizen, I won't, but I could, the issue is most people do do that without realizing they are.

I believe the highest record for a single backer in SC is something like $100K.

If not, more. I don't think we have a million dollar backer (yet). So it is definitely money spenders. Spend, spend spend. I want a Vanguard, no, I want three, I want different variants, and I want a Carrack, and I want two Banu Merchantmen to sell fabulous rarities about the galaxy.

Oh, alright then. I'll take an Idris too to run that squadron from. Perhaps I'll get some Hornets to run as an extra squadron too...

heyy Valky.

Wondered about FF-XIV. Lot of people were saying it was totally brilliant and with the new expansion it'd be prime for WoW leaving.

With SW:TOR I watched the prequels and said 'screw this I want to choppy with a lightsaber.'. I am a bizarrely large Star Wars nut, it comes from the blue when I watch the films or play the games again. I don't have a lightsaber yet, but I'd love to get a full Republic Commando armour set. With knuckle-plate vibroknife..
Here's a short list of things that have changed since I was gone:
1. Gearing is fixed (three levels of commendations and all - even basic - net excellent gear throughout all levels).
2. Dramatically extended class complexity (three unique disciplines per class for a total of 48 individual classes (2DPS + 1 Heal/Tank each)
3. Levelling is fixed (12x XP means the game plays as a full story and you rapidly become stronger, whilst still maintaining a good challenge)
4. Strongholds and Guild Starships
5. Two free expansions
6. Current expansion is uber cheap
7. Subscription makes many things free (Race/Appearance/Transfers/Name change/Legacy bonuses) that would otherwise cost (esp. in WoW) upwards of £7-£22+ each. A server transfer for WoW is £22. A server transfer on SW:TOR is like 50p. Just need to wait for your monthly coin drop.
8. Flashpoints are 10x better than any other dungeon experience.
9. Class stories remain beyond stellar.
10. PvP is in excellent shape, far better than WoW.
12. Galactic Starfighter.
13. It's not WoW.
14. Tactical Infantry Armour.
15. I broke a sergeant's heart. She was very sad, then I was too.

On WoW, I feel like Legion will likely bring me back (it did preemptively for a month after announcement) if only to roll Ret paladin to nab my Ashbringer and have an epic duel with Arthas wearing original HC25 ICC gear. The trend in my eyes is threefold however:
1. Kill PvP in WoW to push to easier to make, more lucrative offerings (OverWatch, Hearthstone, HoTS)
2. Extend F2P-esque monetization to offset falling sub numbers and extend sunken cost (this was actually confirmed to be going on by an earnings report in Q2 I believe)
3. Employ features like 90/100 boosts, Demon Hunters and Artifact Weapons to entice a 'lower denominator' audience which will part more easily with funds.

Perhaps, a last one.
4. Reduce WoW to its knees to eventually spin down servers and retire, because who cares, Hearthstone makes more money than WoW if this goes ahead.

Returning to SC, Social Module is in PTU testing! Might be out this Friday, with reports that Nyx (another zone) may be in at October. Finally, after years it's coming.
