Or MMORPGs.

They're boring. Repetitive. The combat is uninteresting 'hit 1-9 until die, occasionally move away from AOE' and the grind is horrifying. You can drain hours into a mumorpuguss, and see little to no character development. SW:TOR is worse than WoW because the storyline is interesting to me but the problem is I must grind and do boring quests to make it so that I can make combat a less crud experience.
They addict you into spending money into your character.

Why?

Modding / Modding has made me realise something...

...I'm stupidly childish.

So much fun, making 6 fighter squadrons of thunders armed with dual hurricane missile launchers and tachyon lances...

I will never be bored again.

General Discussion / I have a challenge

Can YOU?! take down a Hegemony System defence fleet with only Buffalo MK 2s?

Rules:
1. You can have up to 15 buffalo MK 2s.
2. To make it slightly easier, you can roll with a pair of talons to cap points, but only to cap points. They must retreat immediately after you cap the points (although you may keep them in the corner to recap points.)
3. They can have any loadout, crew level etcetera.
4. You can hack credits to afford such a loadout or something along those lines.
5. The system defence fleet must have at least 3 onslaughts. You must kill at least two.

If you win, then you get the reward of respect.

Does ME kinda slightly ripoff Halo?
Halo Rings: Reapers
Flood: Synthetic Life
Saren and Reaper aligned Geth: Covenant

Halo rings: destroy all organic life to eliminate the flood.
Reapers: destroy all organic life every 50,000 years to prevent synthetics from destroying organic life as they will always rebel against their creators (which is WRONG as
Spoiler
a good ME3 part would be the geth and Quarians in peace
[close]
Covenant: Engage the rings in an attempt to acquire salvation.
Saren and reaper aligned geth: Become all powerful or be spared from the destruction.

General Discussion / Um.... midlines...
« on: June 15, 2012, 11:18:45 AM »
Midlines... are kinda....

crud. Except the Conquest, which is awesome.

I was getting owned with my Falcon, thunders, eagle and hammerhead by large pirate fleets without cruisers. Their shields were no good against the weapons they had (too much flux too quickly) and I couldn't dole out enough damage back to stave off the encroaching fighter wings, particularly piranha bomber wings. Then the armour. Oh god, the armour. It started to feel like the Apogee was more resilient than the Eagle. The nasty thing is, they're the balanced ships, right? High tech ships are fast with great shields and, with tactics, you can use their great weaponry to win. Low tech have high armour, bad shields and racks of big guns. They're slow though. Midline... strike a balance between both, but at the cost of usability.

And then Midline. They need hullmods to be any good IMO. Their shields aren't good enough to take a salvo of Piranha bombs, and they cannot keep their shields up and fire for any longer than roughly 4 seconds. They then have to go onto armour, which isn't nearly good enough to be save them usually. With a high tech, you can hopefully lick your wounds utilising good engines and efficient shielding to get away, vent, and come right back in for another run. With low tech, you generally just turn away or take the hits because you can. You have the needed armour and hull to do that. With a midline, you can really do neither. You can only cross your fingers and hope you'll survive.

The whole method of mixing ballistics and energy doesn't really work either. The flux buildup from energies cripples the use of ballistics even if you have got enough capacitors and such to deal with that. And the worst part is: the energies are NEVER (except for the Sunder) the main weaponry. They're commonly the PD stuff, but when the Eagle or Falcon mixes forward facing energy mounts obviously for assault, then suddenly you're in trouble. What might be even worse is on top of that we mix in the deficient armour and inefficient shielding, making overloads a common problem to deal with when using midlines (back to low armour, bad shields...). I had to resort to using Sabots with my short-lived midline fleet to 'try' to break through shielding without crippling myself in the process. And usually, I use Sabots out of the ability to make a variant great, here I was using them out of pure necessity.

I know there's more, but I've forgotten for now.
Oh yeah, one final point: Why is there no dedicated carrier for cruisers, or any midline carrier for that reason?

Just my opinion.

Does anyone here.... like 3D?

As in, in some ways. IE, playing games like Killzone 3 in 3D, games like Motorstorm Apocalypse or Skyrim (I want 3D skyrim for PS3... because we can) or for some movies?

General Discussion / Is the Enforcer the best high tech ship killer?
« on: June 10, 2012, 02:51:24 AM »
My logic: 5x HMGs for insane anti shield power
4x harpoon racks for frigates and destroyers
4x atropos racks for cruisers
4x reapers for capitals.

The HMGS will shear apart their shielding stupidly quickly, and then the following salvoes of missiles will break up the soft hull.
