Yeah, but it really needs micro-transactions to be a real feature. Otherwise, I just don't think it would be worth it.

PD ships build for the task don't really exist and if they did they would probably need 200%+ range before they would become effective at protecting anything but themselves.

That would be a neat hullmod. Ships with PD weapons get +X% range boost, but are only allowed to mount weapons with the PD tag.

Any chance we could get the fleet composition of those bounties mixed up a bit? It can be kind of tiresome to get a good rep with a faction and be stuck fighting the same fleet types over and over for an entire playthrough.[/list]

The more bounties you do for a specific faction, the more the bounties are placed from that faction. It gets to the point where I fight nothing but low-tech ships all the time, and it gets kinda old. Spice things up a bit, maybe have the low-tech factions place bounties on high-tech fleets sometimes.

Oh you are just going to LOVE phase ships. There already exists a thread on taking down Wolves. Personally, I always enjoy the Lasher with Safety Overrides.

Yes and no. I think I remember reading that the AI is setup to not take risks. It is up to the player to decide when decisive action is needed, so the Engage command usually gets them within weapons range, and the Eliminate is where they will really start to do something. I like to manually select ships, then right click on the baddie that I want them to take out. It works pretty well for me.

I'm not quite hip on the modding side of the game, but I think there is a "fighter only" tag out there somewhere for small weapons and PD.

EDIT: Which of course would make PD useless against threats you would still want it to target, like harpoons and torpedoes.

Let's not nerf the Mora, okay? Let's accept that not all ships can be killed in the same way as every other ship. Bring HE, bring bigger guns—not everything should go down easily to a pack of frigates or some other anemic composition.

We have way too many hammers in Starsector and not enough anvils—the fact that the Mora has been standing out such much is proof of that!

Have you ever fought one of those SOBs with a level 20 officer? It takes an entire fleet to bring them down. I'm all for having tougher ships, but the Mora is a massive outlier.

@ BillyRueben:  I was more like thinking of Legion or Conquest (EDIT: and maybe Onslaught too if limited to single flak due to availability).  Two flaks are not enough to stop all of the Squalls coming from enemy capitals and/or all of the bombers from an Astral, but flaks backed up by Devastator work wonders stopping many of them.

It would be an awesome weapon with the added benefit of being able to fire regardless of what was in front of it. It can be unbelievably frustrating to see a bomber wave hit your ship because the Devastator didn't fire because of friendly fire issues.

I'd like some ways to specialize ships more towards PD. Maybe the PD AI mod could also increase the range of small PD mounts (for an increase in OP cost?).

It would be really cool if PDAI would make your PD "smarter", so that PD and LRPD wouldn't fire at stuff like bombs and flares and would focus instead on fighters.

For PD, most of the effective smaller ones (Vulcan, burst PD, maybe flak) have short enough range for passthrough to be moot.  Most of the long-range PD (beams) is too weak (and too flux intensive in case of LR PD laser) unless there are multiple ships stacking beams in a crossfire.

Not so much worried about the short range stuff passing through allied ships. Rather, I'd like for PD (flak especially) to be able to effectively track fast moving fighters that pass over ships.

If it is any beam, that can be abusive with the heavy beams (i.e., HIL and Tachyon Lance), especially with Paragon hiding behind a wall of ships.  Paragon with Tachyon Lances is a vicious sniper.

I feel like most of the time the AI is the one that suffers here, since their own ships continually block their long range beams for firing at me.


Also, Devastator is treated as PD, and it is a decent PD and assault weapon in one package.  It brutalizes unshielded ships when attacker is close.

Could just be me, but again, I don't see the AI Dominator ships firing their Devastators because of the AI's current habit of clumping up.

I've got 2 condor carriers, 2 destroyers, a tanker and some smaller forgettable ships (Kites etc...) 200k credits.

I'd keep doing bounties until they get harder. With those ships, you would have trouble scratching the paint on some of the 250,000+ bounties.
