Discussions / An RPG project I'm working on
« on: January 06, 2022, 03:32:54 PM »
Vvorynn - The Fate of the Hearthstone

Formerly known as Project Mirrorshade, "Vvorynn" is a small indie gaming project which I started in 2016. Though it didn't really come to fruition till 2020. It is a 2D cRPG set on the Sword Coast, starting out at the Friendly Arm inn.

A screenshot from demo version 1a

Background:
I've started playing with the idea of creating a cRPG the likes of Ultima, The Magic Candle, and Baldur's Gate back in 2016. I knew that before I could really pour any creativity and writing into the project, I would have to gather resources to draw from. So I began with photography. After taking pictures of nature, old castles, and things like period appropriate weapons, armour, and furniture, all during my many walks. Having collected a database of images, I started converting those to a usuable tile-based format. I won't bore you with the details, but it allowed me to build up a world, and populate it with peoples, creatures and events. Keep in mind though, that this is a part-time project - a hobby. Development is progressing at a 'casual' pace.

Currently, I've realised just enough content to feel comfortable enough releasing a demo. This demo:

Vvorynn Version 1a: THIS DOWNLOAD HAS BEEN DISABLED FOR THE MOMENT
https://winter-sparrow-software.itch.io/vvorynn-fate-of-the-hearthstone

Version 1a notes:
-90% of The Friendly Arm Inn location has been completed, including sublocations, quests and interactions.
-Do not play as cleric. This class has been poorly implemented as of this version.
-The overworld is not yet complete. But you may still leave the Friendly Arm Inn and explore part of the Cloakwood.
-That gambler at the FAI? Yeah, he's not properly functional. But will be in the next version!
-Please excuse the placeholder voice "acting".

(Later releases may be password protected. In case the download is password protected, send me a PM either here on the forum or on Discord.)

My hopes:
I hope that you will be willing to give this demo a go, and perhaps tell me what you think of it. What did you or didn't you like about it? What could be improved upon? What is broken or missing? Fresh ideas, compliments, and sharp critique are all welcome!

My dreams:
I'm trying to realise a platform for story telling. I am rather enamoured with the Sword Coast and the Forgotten Realms. Though, it is possible that I will break away from this copyrighted setting to realise my own fantasy world. In which case a lot of content will need to be changed, but I feel this is still doable.
A lot of my time was taken up by getting things to work. Actually expanding upon game content will be easier and less time consuming now that a lot of the scripting and creation of assets is done!

If you've made it this far, I'd like to thank you for reading through my project's pitch.
Hope you'll enjoy the demo!

Discussions / 33 - 90% Free Discount on 20 Steam Games
« on: August 22, 2021, 09:20:06 AM »
This sure looks like some malicious clickbait title. But the truth is that I have a bunch of discount on games, that I can give away to anyone who might be interested.
All discounts are valid till the 29th of august.
If you want discount on one or more games, just PM me which game and where to send it. Feel free to add me as a friend on Steam after. Make sure you want the games though. Some are simple, low quality games, that are usually already priced very cheaply. Though there are a few gems, like Observation, Last Will, and Tangledeep.
Have a look. I'll cross out any discounts that have already been taken.

Discussions / Fantasy General - giveaway
« on: December 16, 2018, 04:45:27 AM »
Hello friends,

I've got a code for a free copy of Fantasy General (for GOG) that I'm giving away. If you really want the game, you can post a number between 1 and 20 here.

I'll run a random number generator and the number closest to the roll wins the game.

The code expires 1/17/19 11:59 PM UTC

So I will end the giveaway saturday 5th of January, so the winner will have plenty of time to redeem the game.

Discussions / Dominions
« on: May 12, 2017, 09:59:52 AM »
Has anyone tried any of the Dominions games? Dominions 3 and 4 are great and so far I've played Dom3 to death. They are available on steam, and while Dom4 is the most recent release, 3 does have its perks. I recently got into map creation and I tried my hand at creating a Dom3 map. Turns out the map / scenario it also works for the latest title in the series.

Here's the map I made:

It all works. Provinces border one another and each province has its own properties (like forests, mountains, farms; which determine certain stats to a province)

It was mostly just an MS Paint job that I did to test out how the game's map editor worked. Then I ended up liking the design and tried to salvage and improve it, turning it into a proper map.

I also want to try out creating custom factions, so I can populate my custom worlds with my own creations and realms. I'll post some more if I make progress on any of that.

Ingame screenshot of a space exploration and survival game I'm working on. Stay away if you don't like pixels! It features quests, trade, mining, combat, upgrades, skills (you can't drill for that resource without the proper training, equipment and manual!), and a story. You fly a single spaceship, but do get to control several others at times (escorting a freighter, hiring protection). Gameplay takes place on one huuuge map. Seriously, you'll get lost.

I have no idea where I'm going with this, but I'll keep you posted on any progress I make. Perhaps a playable demo in the near future.  :)

I'm curious. Does anyone here play this game? Obviously it isn't a space based game. It is a steampunk and fantasy RPG.

I don't believe I ever posted these here. Here's some of my old-timey piracy sailing that I get up to.  :D

Battery power on that camera was so poor, I could only record about 10 seconds per clip. Editing made for some decent videos though. Both were filmed in a single afternoon. Obviously sailing relates in a way to space exploration. Going out on open waters or setting off into outer space is very similar sensation in my experience.

Modding / Mod Idea: The SpaceBarFly Chronicles
« on: January 31, 2015, 07:23:51 AM »
The premise: A brief comic-style story introduces each new playable mission, where the protagonist controls a ship that gets enhanced with each succesful mission, adding new bits-and-pieces and improved stats; the ultimate kitbash.  ;D

Spoiler

The protagonist starts out with a mere mining drone, converted for manned flight.

I don't have the energy and time right now to really dedicate to getting my old mods up to 0.65.1a, so instead I'd like to create a campaign through missions, similar to the one I made for TuP. But this time with a more interesting storyline.

General Discussion / How time flies

Celebrating the two year anniversary of this video (it still says "Starfarer"!):  :D

How time flies. I feel like doing a remake though! What with all the new amazing artwork by David. Also, the voice doesn't sound as good now, listening to it with my new headset.

This video was originally just an initial Zorg voice test.  ;D

Speaking of the Zorg, some old videos:

Q: I lost my activation key. What do I do now?

A: Send an email to keys [at] bmtmicro [dot] com, they should be able to help you out.

Q: I lost my activation key and username!

A: Are you still using the same e-mail address? If you kept the receipt, you can find your key by searching for an e-mail from [email protected]. If you didn't save that message, you can send an e-mail to keys [at] bmtmicro [dot] com describing the situation and they should be able to retrieve your key.

Modding / A simple request: Include Version Numbers
« on: October 04, 2014, 06:15:02 AM »
I have a request for all modders to include their mod's version number in the archive or main folder name. Many modders are already doing this and it makes downloading and archiving mods a lot easier. I like keeping an archive of the mods I have downloaded, but if the .zip files and main folders all have the same name, that makes it a lot less convenient (having to move folders about, renaming stuff, etc.).

This is just a personal request and in no way a demand.  ;)

It will also make it easier for me to update Erick Doe's Modded Starsector soon.

Faction / Mod Lore Feedback Thread
We have a thread dedicated to artwork and sprites, making it easy for modders to receive feedback on their graphical work. But what about our writing and fiction / faction / mod lore? Well, as such I've started this thread. Post here if you've got a draft that you'd like your fellow modders and community members to have a look at!

Don't be afraid to have their eager eyes pick apart every word you've written. I know I'm not! Not really. Be nice? Please? Help!

Rules:
-No off topic banter
-Feedback on artwork related to written lore is allowed
-Feedback on artwork unrelated to lore is NOT allowed
-Be critical, but also be polite. Remember, this is about providing feedback to fellow community members. Not to stomp their dreams and hopes into the ground.  ;)

Discussions / Arma2 - Invasion 1944
« on: July 09, 2014, 08:36:03 AM »
Does anyone have Arma2 in this community? There is a WW2 mod for the game which is simply amazing. Only problem is there are practically no servers online.

I'd be willing to set up a story-driven campaign online, through which a squad of us players would try to complete several objectives, throughout numerous missions. It would be the same squad throughout the missions, with us players as its soldiers. With potential for awards and promotions based on performance.

Any interest?
