The new SD lore reads like something out of a parody or a cartoon. Even the "IRL equivalents" aren't nearly this comical. It's beyond on the nose and clownish, I'm already dreading what's coming next for "faction lore".
Really? You think the Diktat described is more "comical" and "clownish" than, say, the historical regime that brought us the Maus and Ratte, and whose leadership staff were afraid to wake up their leader during the early hours of D-Day?

Who cares about the historical basis? Going off that logic the Hegemony should have all of these issues, even more so. The real issue is that the Lion's guard is the only unique aspect of the Diktat, yet they have no unique aspect to them gameplay-wise, except of course, farming them for their weapons.

The argument around the diktat is ultimately an emotional one. People do/don’t like this new direction because they already did/didn’t like the Diktat for whatever reason. Though, having a set of themed variants that are just D skins is ultimately boring. The skins only serve a narrative purpose, and are perhaps very cleverly implemented and a maybe even a good piece of world building; From a gameplay perspective, you might’ve well just added nothing at all for Sindria. From a lore perspective, I understand all the reasons why, but I still irrationally cling to the idea of Andrada being Space Napoleon, rather than “El Presidente de Askoña”

General Discussion / Re: Sindrian Diktat Changes

I will also say I don’t like how the two new Diktat weapons impact gameplay. The only way to obtain them is by farming LG fleets. As many others have stated this boils the Diktat down into “Guys you have to kill for the funny gun”. This is boring. Alex’s counterpoint was essentially “No, because if you want the weapons you have to risk your reputation with the diktat”. The problem being, nobody cares!

Sindrian fuel isn’t that lucrative, lobster isn’t either. There is nothing to gain from a diktat commission than possibly a worse version of another factions capital. People usually only take commissions because of role play reasons, and there’s little left in the way of appeal regarding the Diktat anymore.

@Grievous69 thank you :)

Honestly, this argument is silly. Weather or not you support this design decision boils down almost entirely to weather or not you liked the orange cartoon fascists or the purple cartoon fascists for whatever reason. This is for the most part, emotional. Does it really matter that Lions gaurd ships have a small debuf? Not really. But people, (myself included) lose their crap over it because it feels like a betrayal of the Diktats previous characterization.
I’ve found mostly, the people whom support the change were the people who already didn’t like diktat for whatever personal reason.

 The discussion has been so focused on this because the entire Sindrian part of the blogpost was about the Lion’s guard; And we had already seen twitter posts about the Pegasus and DEMs. In the way of remnants, we got a few paragraphs and a gif, not much to go on.

Ultimately, most players don’t like this decision because it undeniably has a underwhelming or negative impact on gameplay. Starsector historically speaking at the very least, wasn’t a story driven game, and still isn’t for the most part; And while the world building, lore, and storytelling are exquisite, they are still secondary to the actual gameplay. A vast majority people play starsector for the experience of playing starsector, therefore the gameplay takes precedence. When people see the new, very cool, ship variants they want it to have an interesting impact on gameplay. D-skins are not interesting in the slightest.

Thats actually quite interesting. I would have never thought as to how I would fight my own fleet.

The Lion's guard ships have the "special modifications" d-mod for the sake of world building. It's supposed to represent Andrada's overreach in all matters. While he may be a crafty politician and strategist, his ego prevents him from realizing that he has no expertise in star ship design itself. The "special modifications" are random changes Andrada felt his ships needed, despite the fact they all make the ship worse.

Personally, I don't like the decision. However I understand why Alex made the Lions Guard this way. I think the gameplay should take precedent over the lore or background. I think it's truly a shame that these excellent looking ships will be relegated to uselessness due to there inherent inferiority to the bog standard. It just doesn't feel good. Perhaps the Lions guard ships should be side grades that reflect Andrada's doctrine or propensity for energy weapons.

Great Work! This update is looking like one of the greatest yet. The Pegasus looks like a beast, and the new league weapons are both awesome and distinct. No complaints regarding the few changes made to tri tachyon either. The new remnant ships are looking fearsome, and I can't wait to fight them and get my hands on them.

However, I don't really like where the Diktat is headed. At least to me they are becoming more and more of a "meme faction". Their capital ship? A worse copy of some other factions'. Their purpose? Lobster. (Fuel isn't even that cheap in sindria anymore either) Their weapons? Largely a joke. Their elite force said to have the best training and equipment in the sector? A complete joke, no more than a parade army for show. While I understand the reasoning behind the LG's "attributes" I just can't say that they make terribly much sense. As someone whom has thoroughly enjoyed the game and done a little looking around in the lore department, Philip Andrada and the Lion's Gaurd has never struck me this way. And from a gameplay perspective, it makes more sense to me, that the lions gaurd should be a truly elite and feared force. The lions gaurd's ships and weapons can only be acquired by fighting them, and they are rare. But why would players go so far out of their way to aquire these ships if they are objectively worse than the default? These are some really cool sprites, and it seems like a waste of effort if their only purpose is for "world building & emersion"

Suggestions / Re: Carrier and Fighter additions

I fully agree. Fighters and carriers are in dire need of a registered. There's a lot that can be done with them as you expressed. I would like some additional command tools in combat, for a greater level of control over fighters. Additionally I would like the ability to deploy fighters like you can ships re-added to the game.
