First it will give you a time remaining make sure you have enough time to burn there, if you click it in intel it will twll you the type of star and a planet they hide out, if there are multipul pick one poke your head in see planets that are there and go to any that match the hideout type of planet, if not go to next matching star ....

Just make sure you give yourself enough days to do this before it expires.

Hope this helps

General Discussion / Re: Reduce Detection Range
« on: January 14, 2020, 11:02:19 AM »
Using your burn increase will make your signal huge! Cut it off, keep out of view of your destination, make sure no fleets are around you at all will see on radar ( i think that may be mod ) and activate the go dark, if a ship was within sensor range of your ship when you do that they will hunt your general direction, just take evasive manuevers outside of that 90 deg angle from them looking at you.

As mentioned belts are a great way to reduce your signature radius alot just make sure your burn is off, ships with engine d mods can increase your signiture radious ( check it will tell you if it does ), also bigger ships means bigger sig so be wary of that too.

Some planets like say jungala are a pain i  the arse to get into like that, too many patrols, if you must go to one of these kinda places then you gotta wait for their patrols to go deal with an issue but then its a time game, they can turn right back round at full speed right at you to patrol the planet again .....

Good luck!

General Discussion / Re: Details about prices in new "Intel" overview?

The trick i tend to use is keeping one of everything in my cargo, as long as there is a com relay ( i think ) nearby you can pull the f1 info for demand and prices but its remembering to keep 1 of everything haha.

Also if you have a fulfilment quest there is a tab once accepted to bring up that info ok the info for that mission, shows you where you can get the product for example ( i missed this for ages and messed up a few times blindly trying to find stuff in markets)

Hi there the cap lock key when pressed will speed up the game ( not sure if this is in vanilla i do have mods running think one of them is speed up ) also i use a skola with speed increasing mods for this very reason or carriers with fighters to chase it down.

Hope this helps.

General Discussion / Re: Best way to learn the game...
« on: January 12, 2020, 02:22:16 PM »
I have watched some youtube stuff but not tons, i have read some forums and some redit posts after playing a bit, but honestly i found i didant want to play how most of them played so i found my own way.

Only when i wanted to understand something better have i come looking for answers....

First time going into a black hole by mistake was fun letting autopath lead me, pathers demanding tithes or attacking a pather base in missions was a pain in the sack compared to pirate bases for example.

Ships others liked i hated, finding how i wanted my fleet to field has been a fun experiment, i saw what fighters and bombers were best but honestly i still messed around with stuff, adding mods for factions to add ship lines that i thought were cool.

Personally i rarely fought at all early game, rushed for the go dark boost, got cerbs or hounds for shielded cargo, got some skola (which i love with a passion boosting speed hitting up to 185 i think? Fastest i seen so far and deal out damage well) or wolfs and shipped illegal goods around till i had enough to build a half decent fleet to then do bounties and colonize stuff.

Next i want to build a drone carrier fleet for lolz and see where that gets me but its all whatever floats.

The "hidden" events ( i have only come across 1 so far) for example was fun and different giving you choices and possibilites wondering if it was going to end bad or good.

Also distress becons, i had two which did not end badly and did not get much out of it, then i had a trap one and saw how bad it could be....... i decided after that i would never consider answering a distress beacon again haha.

You just gotta go off, play the game, have fun, explore and tinker.

Also save scum like a boss, i dont have time in rl to waste loosing fleets to some cruddy pirate armada that just so happens to pop out of a hole as i was heading to it  ..... wiping hours of fun playtime and making it feel a waste of time, whatever makes the game fun and enjoyable?

Wishing you a fun playthrough.

General Discussion / Re: Playing battles as a strategist top down
« on: January 12, 2020, 01:14:50 PM »
I really need to look at this file, few things i will probably want to alter to my own game style, will this effect current saves and the such or will i have to reroll?

I assume looking at other older posts i can alter battle points and restriction on fleet size? I assume this will make the game run alot slower if i up it by alot?

Hi all,

Fairly new to the game but been getting a fair amount of hours in once the kiddoes go to bed, most youtube vids i have watched of star sector involve the person flying a ship.

I have found myself jumping in a carrier and autopiloting whilst directing and watching the fight as a whole and not really wanting to fly a single ship does anyone else do this?

Also command points, is there a way to alter it so i dont have them or alot of them so i can command top down more effectivly?

Cheers

General Discussion / Re: Catching fleets

You can also burn towards them, they will emergency burn, cut your burst as soon as they turn sharp point and reengage after them, as long as your not too much slower you will catch them, if not you can wait till their emergency burn is out then emergency burn yourself, its mot great and will waste resources but you will catch them or so i have found...... haha

I am really new too however did not have an issue with the tutorial, i will admit i quickly learnt going dark is your friend and getting the skill to improve it will help you drastically to do your dodgey trades.

Drugs and guns are your friends you can make $500 a unit selling arms to luddic path in some cases or nearly $100 a unit on drugs.... cant go wrong just pick your planets wisely, if you are trading "normally" you are wasting your time it takes forever to gain decent capital compared to other options, looking for stuff to run in bars is good also or that person who sells good from the officers mess for cheap, its how i started early game to build up whilst my burn rate was 10 and i could get out of most situations.

I found early fights were overly frustrating especially when i picked up a slow ship without realising at first and being caught by some of the bigger pirate fleets.

Supplies in this game also are an absolute nightmare if you dont realise why your loosing them or how to avoid it, never run out of supplies, especially if your light of funds early game its just a downwards spiral, first few runs especially if im exploring / surveying i got caught out, neutrino stars murder your supplies if you land wrong for example......

Its been a fun curve so far still learning which ships i love and hate, still sitting at cruiser level and below favoring carriers because i am a fan of that type of idea anyways.

Just keep at it, play again, find issues and find solutions and try again, i did save scum my first run to get the hang of things so i did not mess up multipul play throughs but thats me

Great game plus mods to keep it extremely varied beyond the already many choices.
