Suggestions / Fleet Sorting For 0.95?
« on: January 14, 2021, 05:14:58 PM »
Fleet sorting options would be nice for the next update. I know that recovering ships will now put them in the same place in you fleet before, but could we get some options to sort fleets? Like "Sort by CR" or "Sort by highest maintenance" or "Sort by DP".

Will we get some logistic ships for RR and GH in future?
I think this is already a pretty big mod, and to prevent bloat, it's probably not worth adding a bunch of logistic ships.

dunno if this is a known bug or anything, but uh -
If you mean the station flying really fast, I'm not sure if you can tell what pushed it in the first place. It might have been something else.

You should go into the graphics lib files, find the config, and change those a bit.

Modding / How to Download and Change Graphics Lib Settings
« on: December 29, 2020, 12:58:19 PM »
This is a small guide for how to change your settings for Graphics Lib, and download it. The main reason you might want to change them is because your PC can't handle the default settings, so the game is laggy. Don't be afraid if this is the case, Vanilla Starsector can run on almost any PC, and default Graphics Lib settings are much more demanding.

To Download the mod:
  • First, you want to download the mod. All you have to do is go to this page https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=10982.0, and click the big download at the top.

  • Next, you have to extract the file. I'm not sure if Winzip can unzip a 7z file, but if not, you have to install 7zip. Here's a link to that https://www.7-zip.org/download.html You probably just want one of the top 2 downloads, based on if your system is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Then, you have to right click on the file, hover over 7-zip, and click "Extract Here".

  • After that navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Fractal Softworks\Starsector\mods", or you can paste that path into the top bar,

and put the extracted GraphicsLib file into the mods folder

Also make sure you didn't drag GraphicsLib into another mod's folder!

Yay! Now that you put GraphicsLib into the mods folder, you can edit the mod's settings

To edit the settings using preset options:
  • Open the GraphicsLib folder and open "Preset Options". Then open one of the folders based on what setting you want. Use "Craptop" for low-end systems. Then right click on the "GRAPHICS_OPTIONS" file, and copy it.

  • Then go back to "GraphicsLib", and paste the file.

  • Last click "Replace the file in the destination", and you now have a preset option set.

To edit the settings manually:

Open the GraphicsLib folder, right click on "GRAPHICS_OPTIONS", hover over "Open with", and click on Notepad.

Now you can change all the settings to your heart's content. Be sure to read the text that comes after a # to understand what changing the settings does. The way you change the settings is by changing "true" to "false" or changing the number after the colon. Be sure to only change the part right after the quoted text and the colon.

Oh also there are a ton of utility mods, but you should only use them if you have a problem with something.

Nexerelin adds a lot, so it might not be for you yet, but it makes Starsector more like a 4x game, with invasions, diplomacy, spies(agents), and some other stuff.
On the faction side a good introduction mod is Scalartech Solutions.

They are a fast high-tech faction, with some good weapons, and fitting their ships isn't too complicated.

For a expansion of vanilla ships, Ship and Weapon pack has lot's of good vanilla-adjacent ships, but similar to Nexerelin it is a lot for newer players. Another good mod would be Torchships and Deadly Armaments, which is full of nice balanced ships.

For most mods, you'll need to also download and activate these libraries, or the other mods won't work:
GraphicsLib:
https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=10982.0
(Also for this one, you might want to change the settings of the mod, because this adds all kind of graphics and lighting and stuff. Here's a link to my guide for that https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=19597.0)
LazyLib:
https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=5444.0
MagicLib:
https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=13718.0

Finally, for stupid, unbalanced, but really fun, there's Kingdom of Terra. This faction whacks, smacks, and pushes other ships, instead of just using weapons. If that isn't enough, there is a ship that is a giant T Rex skull, that chomps ships.

I found what was happening, you can't phase while the Scylla's system "GAT" is active.

I don't have that much else to say, it's possible my mouse or me is doing something, I'll keep trying the test mission and tell you what happens.

I have a bug with the Scylla. Sometimes when I right click to phase, the ship doesn't phase, it instantly goes to the cooldown (it shows the cooldown graphics and I can't phase at all), so I have to wait a few seconds when I wanted to escape with phase. This has only happened with the Scylla. I also have the newest version, rc3.

You could look at the SRA capital Mimir, it's main weapon projectile pierces.

I only just noticed this now, but the fighter bays on the carriers are now my favorite. The red lighting in those thin lines looks beautiful.
