General Discussion / Re: What's the point of restoring a ship ?

Precisely for when you can't buy / produce a new one.

I came here thanks to some random person in a thread called "games like this one" on the SPAZ Steam forum.

General Discussion / Re: Why are the controls relative to the ship?
« on: August 17, 2019, 11:12:07 PM »
I like the way it is right now.

The only thing that's missing is a toggle for tank controls as opposed to a "keep pressed for effect".

I use arcade controls as default, but on big ships the tank controls are better, which means I need to keep the key pressed the whole fight unless I use a macro.

What kind of problems?

General Discussion / Re: AI use of missiles?

It uses massive salvos at the very beginning of combat, against frigates. Do they get removed from combat? Yes, sure. But I'd rather they were kept ready to be used against an overloaded battleship.

Would be nice to have orders specific to missiles.

I've played the game a lot both with and without mods. I much preferred the experience with mods, but I can understand a vanilla experience, at least gameplay wise.

Mods that add new graphics, planet types, etc... Are very good without altering anything core to the game. I would love a mod that creates tons of new paint jobs.

General Discussion / Re: Carriers got mauled

Is there a way to tell whether a carrier is tagged as combat in the game? I don't recall seeing that in any menu. But maybe I missed it.

General Discussion / Re: Dead weight Paragon

and compared to the other capital ships Onslaught and Conquest, it's actually pretty pathetic :/

The Onslaught is better at rushing the enemy, because nobody can escape it. But saying the Conquest is better than the Paragon is just wrong. A Tachyon Lance Paragon just about obliterates anything in sight. It's currently, at least in my opinion, the true "end-game" ship. Once you have this bad boy outfitted correctly, you might as well restart a new game, it's game over for the enemy.

Rebel Galaxy (first one, not Outlaw).

Just a heads up for anyone on the fence about buying this, this game has the worst mouse support I've ever seen. It basically emulates an analog controller with your mouse. Suffice to say it's unplayable with mouse & keyboard.

The soundtrack and visuals were nice, but it was also super repetitive.

If carrier gameplay can't be made engaging for the player, I'd suggest that:
- they should be nerfed sufficiently such that carriers are not a reasonable choice as a flagship
- The skills relating to them should be removed from the player skill tree (keep them for officers)

I do agree that carriers and specifically bombers are overpowered but those two suggestions are pretty bad. If someone wants to use a carrier as a flagship it should definitely remain a possible choice.

Likewise, tying skills to officers only would make piloting a carrier a strictly inferior option.

They clearly require less interaction, and are very good for people who prefer using the tactical map a lot rather than going toe to toe with enemy ships. I personally don't see the fun in piloting a carrier but it should definitely be a viable strategy.

But they do need a nerf, and possibly the Atlas needs a rework of its ship system because right now, not using full bomber loadout is stupid. I get that there are "obvious" choices, but this one has no comparable options. Kind of like reaper Harbinger.

I only like "zone blocking" if that zone is a secret and you need an item to unlock it, and you find some really beefy enemies in it.

I also used a lot of escort orders when I was starting out. Don't. The ship loadout is far more important than the orders. Give it something that specializes it in one role, fitting for the ship.

It's just convenience. I'm quite happy with burn 14.

Important to note: You have two types of controls available.

The first one is tank controls, pretty straight forward.

The second one is the arcade controls, you control where the ship is pointing with your mouse, and AD are now used to strafe.

Those two behaviours can be inverted with shift by default, hold to toggle.

You can change the default behaviour in the settings. I personally find arcade controls to be much, much better. I wouldn't have bought the game if I didn't know those were available.
