Personal attacks are not welcome on this forum, from anyone.

Discussing the difficulty for new players is important, and I'd rather not see a fruitful conversation brought down to an uncivilized level that results in the thread getting locked. Thanks for understanding.

Edit: ninja'd by Gothars.  :D

I absolutely love this approach to making sound effects. Loved it since I first learned about Star Trek (original series) using otherwise mundane noises to create sounds from the future.

Loving the extra punch in the heavy weapons. Don't be shy about waking my subwoofer up a little  ;)

General Discussion / Re: What's most exciting about the next update?
« on: August 27, 2013, 04:25:20 PM »
I'm excited for everything, though I admit the fighter changes are especially appealing.

I love mods. I also love plain vanilla -- there are definitely times when I prefer one over the other, which is why it's so great to have both as an option! The fact that Starsector treats community mods as first-class citizens is one of my favorite parts of the game's overall design. We already have a large number of amazing projects from so many talented modders, I can only imagine what we'll be seeing in the future -- especially with all these additional mod resources being built into the game.

This is really exciting stuff. Fighters are going to be much more fun to use and fight against!

General Discussion / Re: KickStarter Campaign!

Guys: if you want to give more money, give copies to friends. Give copies out free online in giveaways, if you don't have friends. This will manage both the exposure and the finance element of Kickstarter, without resorting to the administrative difficulties of a Kickstater campaign.
This is a great idea, one that I've tried to promote in the past. It's a lot better than a donation for exactly those reasons -- generating some buzz and getting more eyes on the game.

I'm really impressed with the art style here -- very atmospheric. I'm not an artist and the actual terms aren't in my vocabulary, but this sort of art definitely adds to my immersion and enjoyment. Can't wait to see the final results in the game.

I see what you did there!

This is getting out of hand. I was hoping that we could avoid locking this thread, but I can see that isn't going to happen.

A quick Google search shows that there are dozens of 27" monitors (from multiple manufacturers) for PC that support that resolution. Unless I'm missing a joke here ... ? (Totally possible!)

It isn't a very unusual resolution anymore, really, but I would agree that isn't exceptionally common (according to the Steam Hardware Survey).

General Discussion / Re: Problems with the Campaign.
« on: June 03, 2012, 05:15:07 AM »
We still have an RPG system, a dynamic world system, a property system (among other things) that aren't finished yet ... things that will dramatically change the atmosphere and give players more things to do. I, for one, look forward to getting involved in factional politics and causing trouble while gathering the best officers I can find (things that aren't in the game yet). Other people look forward to becoming owners of outposts and other centers of industry.

I'm not arguing against the points you've made, but we really only have the combat portion to look at. Think of this as a tech demo, not a finished product -- and a tech demo that only showcases 25% of the game. Character creation will almost certainly be changed around a bit with the addition of the RPG stuff. Progression of your character, and advancing in the universe, don't really happen right now, giving you only one way to advance (getting new ships and equipment). That stuff is coming.

Please be patient. Perhaps when the game reaches 1.0.0, you might find it interesting to revisit this post and see if your objections still apply. I have a feeling you'll like it a great deal more then.

On a side note, I enjoyed that comic.  :)

That's pretty much why I love Dwarf Fortress -- better stories (and Fun) than any game I've ever played. Most of the events end up being tragically hilarious, but hilarious nonetheless.

And the stuff you can build is just limitless.

Dwarf Fortress
Mount & Blade: Warband
Super Monday Night Combat
Crusader Kings 2
... eh, lots more, but those are the ones I'm actively playing recently. In addition to Starfarer, of course.
