As a newcomer to the game, I'm having some trouble identifying the guns. I'm trying to match the little pictures with the ones in the game  ::)
Can someone tell me the name of that huge crab-like gun in the center of the Champion (and maybe where to find one)?
Plasma Cannon; a large energy weapon that fires as if it's a triple-shot-volley Heavy Blaster. This is a top-tier quality gun. I imagine Tri-Tachyon doesn't want to sell this to you unless you have a military commission with them.

If the player has gone to so much effort to yeet protoplasmic life out of the sector, it's only fair that NPCs become nervously aware of how your achievements are best measured in, ummm, hectoHitlers. Yep, you're The Man now, dawg. Why be charming when instead you can be alarming?

While this thread's thesis is one of the less sturdy April Fool's Day attempts I've encountered today, it does provide a refreshingly original avian weirdness. I look forward to a game mod dedicated to this subject. Too hard to implement? Don't be discouraged -- just..... wing it::)

Many, many game-builds ago (2013? 2014?), Starfarersector had ammo stats for all ballistic weapons.

In those early years, one of the biggest advantages which energy weapons enjoyed was that almost none of them required ammo. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, ballistic guns became what you see today. The debates and arguments about that major change were sometimes, ummm, energy-intensive (pun unintended).

OK try this workflow--

Open Starsector's "weapons" folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Fractal Softworks\Starsector\starsector-core\data\weapons

Open the file named "weapon_data.csv" in a spreadsheet program (I prefer LibreOffice).
MAKE A BACKUP COPY BEFORE PROCEEDING FURTHER.


Look at column "J" in the spreadsheet. It should be named "impact".

Scroll all the way down to the line for the Graviton Beam. Read across from left to right.

The cell for that weapon's impact stat should have the number 20 as its value.

Replace 20 with 0.


Now, scroll up to the row named "Gazer - Payload". Change its impact value to 0, too.


Save the file in (comma-delimited) .csv format. Do NOT save it in ANY other format!

Run the game, then test with a Gravtion- and Gazer-equipped ship.

If the rotation effect still happens when striking a small target, then it's probably a scripted effect and might not be accessible to casual modding.  :-\

IIRC, you have to find the hull skinfiles folder and edit the .skin file for the Legion XIV. This skin or "overlay" file is what tells the XIV how to be different from the base version of the hull. Each XIV hull has its own .skin file.

I use the code editor program Sublime Text for such editing. The color-coding of the program's GUI makes it much easier to avoid accidentally messing-up nested curly-brackets and etc.  ::)

Correct; the Graviton Beam is the single beam-style energy weapon which has the observed "repulsion" effect. Only fighters and missiles (incl. torpedoes) are susceptible to it.

It's at or around line 201 in the file.
Official value is 2.0. Try setting it to something like 6.0 for a grander, more panoramic view of the battlespace.

Firstly, make sure you are using a high-quality code-friendly text editor - I strongly suggest Notepad++ (yes, two pluses).

As above, open the file called settings.json.....

Approximately at or around line number 567, you should find these two:

Change the values to ones that you prefer.
Save the file.
Restart the game.
