Bug Reports & Support (modded) / Re: Pirate King
« on: March 12, 2024, 03:25:49 PM »
You can make a deal with a pirate king (10% of gross colony income) for some vague form of protection. Tangibly, it gives you -50 colony crisis progress. If you break the deal, you have to spend a story point to make it again.
However, if you raid the pirate base, it automatically breaks the deal and you can make another one for free (no sp)

And can someone tell me what the deal is even supposed to be? It doesn't affect any of my colonies' income. It references 'gross income', but colonies use 'net income'.

and while im on this, persean league also has this weird option to ask 'why have your fleets been harassing my colonies' when they havent yet. also, does anyone know how that one works? (how to get the 5% instead of 20% deal?)

*Actually there is a limit of 2 times you can do this. Still weird.

*Actually, you dont need to even waste time waiting around a day to raid them, just engage the station and retreat
**Actually, another bug here. If you do this, the game tells you that the deal gets broken, but according to the pirate king its still in place.

(Moving this to suggestions.)

Thank you, yeah - I'm aware of this. I saw your previous post here, and your PM, just did not get a chance to reply; apologies!

In brief, this looks to be working as intended, or at least fine. It's not something you can do repeatedly because the market will time out for a while after being raided, it takes a lot of initial upfront investment, it causes hostilities, etc. This doesn't seem like much of an outlier, if at all, in terms of making credits.
Hello Alex,
It is my firm belief that this exploit deserves a second consideration.

While you can't do perform the exploit repeatedly on one market, you can do it at a lot of places. Whether the upfront investment high is debatable, but it definitely is not when compared to your returns. Taking the first image as an example, you Sell 2670 Heavy Armaments for 600k. Assuming a base price of $500, it costs $1.335m credits. 2000 marines at $200 a marine gives $400000 for a total of $1.735m. A single hit gave 600k. That's a 33% return on your investment immediately. Do it 3 times and you've made your initial investment back. And you would only have lost around a total of 15 reputation across the factions you're raiding.

In fact, rather than needing a lot of initial upfront investment, the less you 'invest' (sell), the more you get. Marines not including, this strategy is even more efficient when you aren't selling in mass volumes. For example, the sale of 2000 H.A. was $288 in a run, but it was $352 when only selling a thousand, which would give you an even higher return on your investment all the while investing less.

Furthermore, I would like to once again bring to your attention the second part of my post, where commodities I have already raided appeared again out of nowhere.

Had you done any buying/selling of heavy armaments at this colony?

(This question matters a fair bit, if you don't mind.)

Your post just missed my edit. Yes, I did, in accordance with the strategy I listed here
https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=29356.0. This bug only seems to work for some commodities and not others

Suggestions / Raiding and Excess Units in 0.97
« on: March 01, 2024, 08:18:07 AM »
With the changes to player-induced supply in 0.97, it has become very easy to make huge profits through mass-selling, and then raiding it back.
1. Mass-sell items for excess (green) units
2. Raid it back with high raid effectiveness (you can even earn above 100% of what you sold if conditions are right)
e.g. (with 9 raid effectiveness)

It scales, with diminishing returns. (As items will progressively lower in price the more you sell, but you can still raid everything back.)
The overpoweredness of this exploit is compounded by the fact that you may gain very decent amount of experience. Somehow I don't lose a lot of marines in these raids either, maybe because raid effectiveness is high?

Furthermore, it seems that shortages due to raids expire faster than excesses due to player shorting, so you can actually raid colonies a second time.

Anyways, I think this is definitely unintended and broken enough to warrant a patch, which is why I'm putting it in bugs.

yes this is vanilla, i do have a few mods but none of them should impact it. I have done buying/selling, and then raiding it back. raiding as a whole has been very buggy, and I've made another post about it.

Sell and buy price don't reflect market conditions
(Buy is $244, availability of Harmament is -12 due to raids)

Yeh, and to do that you need "only" 20k units of food and 2k marrines... You know that from a single red ordo fleet you can get cores worth of 1-2 millions? Or you can kill caravan carring armaments or drugs and again get 1-2 millions? The way you described gonna block that market for months.

Hello silly person, what you said is very brainless.
1. 20k food is only $400k. 2k marines is also only $400k. You make around 300k a single raid with negligible need for replacement. If you're scared of big numbers in cargo space, just condense your balance into a more valuable item like heavy armaments, which I showed in the post.
2. You 'can' get cores worth 1-2 million's(ic)' if you are extremely lucky. Very very lucky. So lucky that pointing out this miniscule chance is worthless.
3. Killing caravans won't make you nearly 1-2million's(ic)'.
4. It blocks the market for "at least a month". Not a big deal. Why would you think it would block it for multiple months?

This is literally the fastest way to make money in the game, and absolutely reliable AND scalable. Can't believe its getting compared to ambushing convoys by some noobs who think they're smart.

Similar effects at faction home planets, just make sure to take down defences to get everything back. Note that at max raid effectiveness, you often get back more than what you sold. When selling 60k units for fun, I once was refunded an extra 7k.
Nice "5 million" transaction, you still haven't addressed how much investment is needed to acquire 20 thousand heavy armaments in the first place. Also take down defenses? Now you just proved Anvel who you called brainless right, if you blow up the orbital station or bomb their ground defenses then the commotion will last for months.
Charming.

Anyways, looks like I made the nitpicky redditor equivalent upset. Probably will be my last reply since I've pretty much refuted everything said and you're relying on straight-up misinterpreting what I say to have any point at all.
1. That screenshot was me refuting your statement of "You get 300k credits from selling 20000 heavy armaments and raiding them all back". In no world would you ever only get 300k credits for selling 20k heavy armaments. The very lowest you could go for is 500k, and that's if they have absolutely 0 demand for it.

2.  The 5 million:
Video: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/983673665428291625/1211286623669456947/easy_redditor_clap.mp4?ex=65eda593&is=65db3093&hm=e661148607646cf5d606506e94e48ab79d3b69dfde2cff1df4581d82215e8159&

3. 20k heavy armaments isnt hard, its only 10 million credits to buy them at $500 a piece. You (actually maybe not you, but I) could certainly do it within a year, and that's without using this exploit. If you use this exploit, it would only be easier.

"Now you just proved Anvel who you called brainless right, if you blow up the orbital station or bomb their ground defenses then the commotion will last for months"
4. You can sell the items first, and then cause a commotion. You can still raid planets when you cause a commotion.

Ignoring the fact that there will be windows of opportunity where the port is open while things are still under repair (especially since heavy batteries would get knocked out for a whole year with a bombing), there are also other bypasses such as mass-selling other items you may have inadvertently stacked, and then raiding them one-by-one.

This whole point is kind of moot, since the price of armaments you sell is based on how many units of demand they have. There is no particular reason to go after home planets with huge defence when you can just raid pretty much any other planet with low defence. If you are at the point where you can take down their home planets, well, I mean, well done? You could now decivilize the entire sector while you wait for alex to patch this interaction!

I would say "Kind of amusing what your argument has devolved to – 'oh no, a week of wait!' – maybe you can take one of those exploration missions you like so much in the downtime.", but that was your argument from the very beginning. Still can't fathom how you blew a very simple credit exploit so out of proportion.

I didn't bother calculating it. 10 million, 5 million, whatever million, doesn't matter. You will never spend that much, because you're still maxed out whether you have tens or hundreds of millions.
Not even close buddy, it's 300k credits. You get 300k credits from selling 20000 heavy armaments and raiding them all back. Now whats interesting is that the magical 10 million credits number does become relevant again because thats the total price for all those heavy armaments. It's 10 million because you have to get all those armaments from your colonies stockpile because unlike your made-up world, markets will run out of stock in this game. So you need heavy industry set up on multiple or one decently sized colony. At that point they will be netting you way more cash than it is worth the trouble of doing your so-called exploit. You aren't making any good points at all and are just blatantly making stuff up at this point.1

*sigh*

I can make tens of millions of dollars with every marine raid of 2k (more or less) marines, but noooooooo thats "intended".
Ok let's break this silliness down
"Repeating what I said but sure it's "infinite" the same way just doing missions will be infinite money if you just keep on doing them. What defines the Starsector infinite money exploits are that they can be done an unlimited amount of times extremely quickly."
You run missions for 100k. I make 10 million credits with every raid. I make 100x your income. You need to run all over the place to do your missions, hiding, trading and hunting bounties, while I go to any random planet I have the power to raid at a fraction of your time.
Considering the only real places that would be 'hard' to raid are the home planets of the factions, I would be able to run circles around the core an 'unlimited amount of times', if it wasn't for the fact that this strategy is so easy and quick that you honestly might hit the cooldown.
20 thousand food (no, not even 20 thousand heavy armaments) will net you 10 million credits you can stop making up numbers for the sake of your arguement.

Edit: Oh I understand why you used the 10 million credits number now. I tested this and you just looked at the "projected spoils value" said and saw the big number which made your brain go "WoAh!", that's so sad. Maybe learn how the economy works first before calling something an exploit?

I didn't bother calculating it. 10 million, 5 million, whatever million, doesn't matter. You will never spend that much, because you're still maxed out whether you have tens or hundreds of millions. Interesting that you only mentioned the arbitrarily exaggerated number and nothing else of what I said.

Repeating what I said but sure it's "infinite" the same way just doing missions will be infinite money if you just keep on doing them. What defines the Starsector infinite money exploits are that they can be done an unlimited amount of times extremely quickly. Selling a ton of goods to create surplus then buying them back for less than what you sold them for and doing that repeatedly is what infinite money exploit is. Time spent travelling to different markets after you cause a commotion? Purchasing a large amount of marines? Lugging around tons of Atlas freighters? None of that matters here you just need a single Prometheus and a large amount of fuel (one of the easiest commodities to buy in bulk). Your "infinite money method" isn't even comparable to the ones that Alex has patched out, you're just selling someone stuff and stealing it back afterwards there's no exploits here, you aren't creating more money out of thin air.

Sure, this strategy might only make you a few hundred million credits instead of a billion you could have made in the same time if you could buy and resell, but at that point it really doesn't make a difference. You spend like a literal single day getting between core worlds. Is it hard to lug around Atlas freighters? With how tiny patrols are, you won't even be attacked after you raid lmao.

"None of that matters here you just need a single Prometheus and a large amount of fuel (one of the easiest commodities to buy in bulk). I don't think you grasp that there is a difference between running around the map, searching for mission targets and bounties, and brainlessly making millions with, besides of tiny task of moving from planet to planet, actions so repetitive it could be macro'd. Stealing is just as simple, just as skilless, as selling and rebuying. While I might not be creating money out of thin air, the colonies I am selling my items to are, and that all comes to me. Understand that the only thing limiting the amount of money that could be made is your carrying capacity.

I did not expect that I would have to explain something as simple as this when I made the post. I hope this helps you grasp the foolishness of your words.
