Weirdly, setting texture quality to 'best' fixed it. Cheers!

Hi gang. I'm using a laptop at the moment and have encountered this weird problem. It's not a gaming laptop by any means:

Intel Core I3 something or other
Intel HD3000 graphics card (boo)
4 gigs of RAM
Windows 7 home.

Any ideas what's doing this? Is the graphics card just too ***?

Hurray, where's my 'tactics' beer? Ah, it's here on my desk.

'Incoming missile! *shriek*' It would definitely add some dramatic tension.

Perhaps you could do it then? Heh heh.

Things did seem to go more smoothly after, say, twenty beers than ten. I'm not alcoholic, I'm just winning at Starfarer? Brillo!

My missus would do it for a bottle of whisky?

Yes, for the missiles! A nice countdown and some fancy sound effects, maybe the woman who did the monotonous voice for Command and Conquer voicing the timer. That would be genital-tingling!

An ETA timer would be really cool too, but maybe that's too much fancy pants coding. What do I know, I'm drunk.

Why not just do an estimated time to hit timer next to the incoming missile, then you'd spot it right away and have an idea of when to start spamming shields.

Ahaaa, I thought shields were good things, so I always drove about with them on whilst making 'whom whom whom' noises. For autofire I usually only put flak on, because of the few missions I've played, the big guns tend to have extremely limited ammo and I want to shoot things maniacally. I haven't quite worked out what flux is it yet, sort of like a heat meter? Though I've noticed if you have high flux you become supercharged, so is that speed or extra weapon damage?

I'll give capturing some nav buoys a go, usually I just skidded about space with my forcefield on and all my weapons firing. Do they give any bonnuses? I should really read the manual. Hmm.

I've been drinking for about 12 hours now and I just can't win at Starfarer. I overwhelm their shields with the laser weapons, then try and shoot with the faster firing armour damager weapons, but they always outmanoeuvre me. My tactics of 'turn the shields on and go forwards' don't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

Enjoy my 10 dollars or whatever it was then, buy some supermarket vodka. I've had about 10 beers now and I have no patience for controlling little poncey fighters, I want a huge mothership to turn the shields on and smash into smaller ships whilst hearing their short-lived death screams. I also approve of the huge weaponry, a true drinker's choice. Who needs machine guns when you can have anti-matter laser missiles? All in all, this game makes me want to drink less so it's not all in double.
