General Discussion / Drafting a Luddic Armada

So I like to do themed playthroughs and so my current one, in line with the upcoming ships and weapons, is a Luddic play through with a fleet in their style! I'll include the Path ships too.

However naturally not all of the games ships and weapons are available to the Luddites either due to access or moral conviction. So I am going to try and line out what I believe what I think should be available to the Luddites right now to work with, and try to avoid using what they should not be using, please let me know if I am missing stuff!

And of course trying to fit on converted hangers onto every ship that I can as that seems to be their 'thing' when it comes to ships, also let me know the kinds of hullmods they frequent!

Now I think that is all of them, as the Onslaught and Legion are going to be replaced with the new Luddite capitals. However there are certainly plenty of midline ships both in and not in this list, let alone the actual phase ships that the path and likely the church have access too. I'd not know which of those they are supposed to have access too or not as I have seen a path fleet with Sunders but I have no idea if that is supposed to happen!

Also weapons which might be harder as I believe the Heavy Autocannon is going to be a League speciality weapon! And who eve knows with many of the others.

I tried to capture the tried and true weapons over the more exciting or smarter weapons but honestly I could give or take even half of these as not being what the Luddites do or will be using.

What do you think? Are these the kinds of ships and weapons for a Luddite play through? Or am I missing things, or have included too much?

General Discussion / Smuggling

I've played this game for a while, but I rarely do very much smuggling and would love to know the best ways of making large amounts of illegal money.

What are good things to do? Specific missions to smuggle/trade illegal goods? Or are you all finding producers of drugs and mechs and them taking to goods to planets of high demand?

Not paying taxes from selling random stuff to a black market is nice, especially when the locals are all dead from pirate attacks. But I wanna go further. How are all of you making millions from lobsters and drugs?

Suggestions / Shield colour based on flux capacity

Shield colouring themselves has no real game-play value as it doesn't accurately display good or bad shields when used.

So I figure why not tie shield colour to the % of flux a ship has built up, moving from stable low flux blue to critical flux orange/red when you are about to overload.

This could be a good way of telling the player if a ship is close to the breaking point at a glance without the need of a stat bar, much like how an armour broken ship visually looks like it is shattered.

If I haven't presented the idea properly then please assist me below. Thoughts?

Suggestions / Queuing limits

I'd love to have the limits on queuing be increased or removed as I can only order 2 battlecruisers at a time rather then the 7 that I need.

It's not a big issue, but would be nice.

What would be the most cost effective way of deploying as many medium missile mounts to a battle as possible?

Cost could be the cost to deploy or cost to get the right ships, but what is the best choice in vanilla for mass missile deployments?

I have 3, was 4, Corrupted Nanoforges.

If I sell one to the Luddic Church will they use it to improve their fleets? I sold one at one of their civilian market places, but I don't know if they are going to get the hint?

Also is it true that selling blueprints on the black-market will give the pirates stuff to use? As a while ago I deliberately sold a low tech blueprint to try and the Pirates haven't upgraded to D-Moras and so on just yet.

I also have two Fuel cores, is it worth trying to give Ludd free fuel?

General Discussion / Your opinion for best ballistic weapon

What is your preferred or in your opinion for the best ballistic weapon in the game?

In my opinion, based on cost and effect as well as ability to obtain I believe that the railgun, the small size ballistic cannon to be the best ballistic weapon in the game.

It's effective dps, flux cost and OP cost honestly in my eyes makes it superior to even the medium sized ballistic weapons. A cruiser with railguns simply won't build up flux and will have extra OP to spend on mods and flux upgrades. Eagles in particular with three railguns up front can easily overwhelm enemy cruiser with no risk to it's self.

You can't slot them into large weapon slots, but honestly that isn't too bad of an issue as putting them into available medium slots should free up enough OP for whatever you want to combo it with.

I'm personally thinking of making some kind of homage to the TEC (Trader Emergency Coalition) from sins of a solar empire as I think that they would fit in well with the game and it's world.

But what about you? What kind of faction would you make?

General Discussion / Using frigates in large battles

So I've done a lot of battles in this game now but I am struggling to find a real use for frigates in the larger fleet battles.

Carriers are so so so dominant in the current game and with ships like cruisers packing the kind of fire-power and range to pick most frigates off in a single attack I am struggling to use frigates in roles other then pursuit auto-resolve.

Even destroyers occasionally suffer under the weapon yields that most battle utilize with my current fleets enforcers, armed with four flak cannons still being unable to withstand Khopesh bomber runs for very long.

So, what do I do with my frigates? I like them and they have cool load outs but I can't really use them without expecting them to die at any and every moment.

Suggestions / Standard Low tech Cruiser

So I love me some low tech ships but It did occur to me that there is no simple low tech cruiser.

Sure you have the heavy cruiser in the Dominator and a mid-tech cruiser available in the Eagle but no standard basic cruiser without all those fancy pants energy doodads and flashy tech.

But Igncom1! Why would you ever not want to use the Dominator? It's great! And this is true, the Dominator is a fantastic warship with an impressive amount of fire-power at it's disposal, but what if I didn't want an aggressive warship? What if I want something more defensively designed? What do I mean? Let me show you an example of an aggressive design:

Here we have the Bird of Prey, and aggressive Klingon warship, with it's sleek design and forward facing armament it can focus almost all of it's fire-power into a single direction. It's a killer designed to attack and destroy targets with maximum prejudiced. What this focus on frontal fire-power remind you of?

The Dominator, a ship with the majority of it's weapon mounts facing in a single direction, all designed to project massive amounts of fire onto a single target and destroy them. With two large mounts no less! It's a killer so long as it's target sits still and it's an aggressive designed ship. But what am I suggesting?

Something along the lines of this. A defensively designed ship, the Ankylon Titan is incapable of projecting even half of it's total fire-power onto any one target but instead is designed to resist attack from any direction and keep on swinging. A real armoured bruiser that is omni directional on the defence.

That's what I would personally love to see in star sector, a low tech defensively designed cruiser. Something that rather then being helpless from all but one direction is safe from any direction, something that can sit in the middle of an enemy battle group and survive. At the cost of a larger and more powerful armament and ability to project it in any one direction.

One idea at to what such a ship could look like would be like two enforcers taped back to back:

With medium and small mounts in every direction the ship could fend off assaults from all directions but would lack the Dominator's ability to fire highly powerful and long ranged attacks in any single direction.

A middle of the road cruiser designed to act alone or when in a fleet with little fear of being surrounded.

Has there been a change to the autopilot AI?

Because mine keeps putting my ships into situations that get themselves killed very easily, such as not retreating to vent Flux with the wolf.

I've never liked actually piloting the ships in this game, so now I find that my ships and the ones piloted by the AI are far weaker then my opponents, making most even battles almost impossible to win.


I know I'm kind of a scrub at the game, but is anybody else having the same problems with their ships and auto-pilot?
