Star Sector has this annoying curve where after you figure out how the game works it becomes very easy, and it almost feels like cheating to play against AI. Adding some form of player-vs-player combat seems to be the natural solution. Has Alex considered adding a system like GSB where you can match your fleets against pre-made fleets uploaded by other players?

Suggestions / Fixing Markets - an Idea
« on: April 25, 2017, 12:58:59 PM »
Right now what prevents you from trying out a new fleet concept or a new ship loadout or whatever isn't credits, but simply the matter of actually finding the ships and weapons needed. Credits are almost never a factor.
There is some borderline buggy scarcity for over half the game's content which becomes obvious if you use the console command mod to search for items. For example, the Monitor frigate doesn't spawn in ANY market. Xyphos LPCs spawn in 2 markets and with outrageous rarity. I did ~100 market updates (each takes an ingname month, naturally) and the best source of Xyphos LPCs only produced four LPCs out of those hundred updates.

This is just an example, many many items are nearly, or actually, nonexistent. The market scarcity also makes the universe feel like a contrived game setting, with its conditions governed by game rules. It doesn't make sense that the biggest market in a faction's capital system will have ten or fifteen ships for sale and two or three of various weapon types.

And like I said, credits are rarely a limiting issue. Everything gives a huge amount of credits in this update.

Here's my suggestion to help with both issues: make large markets like those in capital systems have EVERYTHING, in huge numbers, but at an extreme price markup. If you go to New York or Tokyo you can find most anything, but it's going to run you a lot of money. Same concept.

That way you can choose between getting bargain deals at small markets (but not knowing exactly what you'll be buying) or you can go to capital systems and spend your millions on putting together the exact fleet you want.

Bug Reports & Support / Intel update waves (?)
« on: November 26, 2015, 11:58:04 PM »
In my game, for maybe an ingame week or a month, events like food shortages, bounties, etc. progressed normally.

However, at some point they just stopped coming, all except for trade disruptions. Then all of them hit me at once. This happens in waves now, with long periods of no events then a tsunami of them coming at once. This includes bounty payments, even. If I kill a bounty target I wait for a while until the tsunami, then it pays me.

Suggestions / Disguising Fleets as a Certain Faction Temporarily
« on: October 31, 2014, 05:25:30 PM »
You should be able to disguise your fleet as if it belongs to any other faction. It should probably exist as a black market feature - have over 75 rep with the pirates? They'll sell you a communications transceiver which will give off the correct codes to identify you as a member of that target faction. Unfortunately, those pesky factioners change their codes every week, so in seven days you'll have to get a new one, price and all.

Why?

1) This would let you attack other fleets or etc. and the reputation hit or bonus would go onto the faction you're disguised as. In this way you could manufacture bad blood or a truce between factions over time... ie, disguise as commonwealth and kill a Tri-tach bounty target or save a Tri-tach station from food shortage? +rep between commonwealth and Tri-tach.

2) It would enable you to trade without, or with decreased chance for, customs inspections.

3) You could of course attack fleets without consequence to yourself, but the cost of the transceiver should be high to ensure this would only be profitable if you attacked and looted, say, a big trade fleet.

Bug Reports & Support / Thermal Pulse Cannon Sold
« on: October 30, 2014, 02:46:31 PM »

Got excited and thought it was a legitimate thing 'till I read the unmodified description (which still implies it should only occur as part of the Onslaught's hull) and the ordnance points, which reads n/a.

If it is supposed to actually occur for trading, those two things ought to be modified.

Bug Reports & Support / Menus Unable to be Opened Following Combat
« on: October 30, 2014, 08:55:26 AM »
Whenever I destroy a pirate fleet I'll afterwards be unable to open any menus (ie. the refit screen, character screen, etc.) I'm also unable to mouseover fleets on the screen to see their component ships and descriptions.

Last version I was played as 0.62 and I didn't have the same problem there. Not sure if this is a problem everyone's getting or something on my end - I didn't see any other threads about this on page 1.
