Suggestions / Hire an Exploration Team from Galatia
« on: June 07, 2023, 04:37:01 AM »
Personally, I find exploration and surveying very tedious to go sector by sector and just scan scan scan, fight a little bit, scan some more and.. you get the idea.

My Solution is this:

The player should be able to hire an Exploration Team from the Galatia Space Station. The mechanics of this would require you to pay a substantial sum of credits based on how many Sectors you wish them to survey. The dangers of that sectors should also come into play. For example, if the Exploration Team find an alert beacon, they shall avoid the said system, but get you preliminary data, such as number of planets in that sector.

An extra way of making this balanced is that the Exploration team will keep 75% of the general loot they find out there and only give you a measly 25%. The survey data will not be given to the player in this case as the Team will keep it as valuable information for the Galatia Institute. All the rare artifacts, blueprints, etc will have a 100% return rate to the player. All the loot will be placed in the Galatia System Storage, which comes with the monthly default fee when it is occupied. This way, if the player decides to explore by himself, the player will profit better in the long run.

The idea is that there won't be an actual fleet flying tot the system, it will all be text based and with a timer based on the theoretical distance it takes to go there and back. The more sectors you wish the Team to explore, the longer it takes and the more credits you have to pay up front to finance the expedition.

Also, to avoid any player exploit (of just going to a sector the team was designated, and try to acquire duplicated rare loot this way) the player won't be able to enter the queued sectors. After the task is complete, the sector will display all the planets as surveilled and all the probes, stations, small AI ships, etc, will be despawned.

Ok, so it's not that WoW (World of Warcraft) kind of Portraits, but hear me out. This Mod aims to replace the Vanilla portraits and add some extra, to make the game feel more SciFi. As a Disclaimer: These portraits have been generated with Easy Stable Difussion, but trust me it was no easy task. Check the Video bellow if you want to see the beauty of how it works:

Yes, I know.. I have become a Panda now. I just use animal companions as aliases for privacy reasons .. in case you were wondering!

Also, HELP wanted: In case you are a coder who has the time to help me with simple code stuff that I have no clue how to do, I will forever be your best mental friend!

Design Philosophy:

Spoiler
Independents:

They are considered the be the general population of the galactic cluster. This faction is composed usually by citizens who take on a life of trading, exploring, salvaging and even smuggling. They have a more diverse look across the pallet. Of course, they are also mingled with more nuanced, yet a smaller sub-faction that has dedicated fleets for Bounty Hunting and Mercenaries, that act as hit and flee units that protect various trade routes and other independents. In small numbers they are easily disposed, but if they congregate (though rare) they become a force not recommended to be trifled with.

Hegemony:

They consider themselves as the mighty military backbone of the commonwealth (at least what is left of the former Domain of Man empire anyway). They rule with fierce diligence and take on the role of enforcing "their" Laws, making sure to suppress all the smaller faction into submitting to their swift and brutal inspections, that usually end up filling the pockets of their corrupt officials. Empire business as usual.

Sindrian Diktat:

Even though they are a small splinter cell from the Hegemony, they stand strong and rule with an iron fist. They are mostly composed from a younger generations of warriors and this leads them to take a more flexible approach when dealing with the Hegemony Laws. They also do not shy away from dealing with the Pirates for various imports and exports. even though the rule over a small domain, they have a market monopoly over the fuel industry which makes them sustain their status among the bigger league factions.

Persean League:

They stand against the way Hegemony is imposing their Law and strive to overcome them one day. They are of Persian decent and favor honor and culture over military authoritarianism. They also have ties with the Sindrian Diktat, as both factions strive for a secret alliance against the Hegemony.

Tri-Tachyon:

Now this is a faction that would fill countless libraries with all the technological information they posses and develop. They are a somewhat obscure faction that seldomly appeal to unconventional tactics in achieving their scopes. Their command structure is also somewhat fractured in smaller cabal sub-factions that "cooperate" between themselves rather than work as an entire politico-sociological body. Their mindset is oriented towards a corporate behavior and they are constantly looking to stay ahead of the "competition" by any means necessary. They pay heavily for anyone that brings them unique and rare technology and they love incorporating this technology to enhance themselves via implants in the hopes of ascending to an absolute shadow power. There is a big fear in most of the other factions that Tri-Tachion is playing with fire and that they might reignite a 3rd AI War that will ultimately led to everyone's demise.

The Pirates:

They follow no imperial rules and are also separated within dynastic families that have a long and bloody feud with the Hegemony. They will plunder and loot whomever they see as a vulnerable target. Even though their forces are laughable at best, when it comes to raising a sector, they will band together and suppress their foes with sheer voluminous numbers and devious fugitive hit-and-run tactics.

The Lud:

They are and odd bunch. They consider themselves as the true descendants of Humans and they oppose anything that is too technological advanced. Even though they have a rather bulky technological armada, their systems suffer heavily due to poor maintenance and severe lack of technical routines. They are separated between 2 main factions that follow separate approaches on how they wish to eradicate technology from the Empire in order to bring humanity on the "correct Path", and they truly despise the Tri-Tachion. Even the Pirates stay far away from them since it drives shivers up their mentally-deranged spines in fear of being captured by these Lunatics. It is rumored that there are a lot of unorthodox experimenting happening within the Lud society and they sure do love their "recreational drugs" that they use in excess, making their ocular organs start glowing and ultimately lead them to a slow and certain insane state of their mind. It is also rumored that their Messiah is actually an AI entity, but little is know about this fact as their culture and historical records are shrouded in mystery.

AI remnants and derelicts:

This is a faction that is truly fascinating and horrific at the same time. Even though they do not have any feelings towards humanity, their corrupted protocols set them into a new quest to make the galactic systems a harmonic technological perfection. Very little information is officially know about their true existence, due to the previous AI wars that reduced the former Domain of Man to a shadow of itself, after the extreme atrocities (from both man and AI) that took place in the past. They were initially deployed to expand the Domain of Man by terraforming and preparing various system-planets to be colonized, but something unexpected happen eventually and an insatiable technological power was born in their protocols that made them turned upon their creators. There are 3 main classes of AI: Red - which compose the vast majority of the lower end units. They were the industrial backbone that set up various and tedious jobs that humans no longer wished to do themselves. Yellow - more akin to social oriented tasks that would improve humanity's existence. Blue - developed for military purposes to make sure that they protected the expanding AI armada from anything and anyone that would like to interfere with their base protocols. And finally we discovered The Omega, which is an unique and terrifying AI. While the previous 3 mentioned AI units have holographic human-like interfaces, the Omega is composed from specialized nano-organic-polymer that make their existence a true threat if they would start to mass replicate and rise as a new species to dominate the Universe. Little is yet know about them and their existence, but for the moment it seems that they a very small but extremely hazardous minority group out there.

FAQ:

Spoiler
Q: How long did it take to make all of these?
A: 3-4 Weeks. it is very time consuming, but I shall add all the specs I used for Diffusion to help anyone that wants to take on a similar challenge.

Q: Are these images copyright protected?
A: No and I shall add the Raw images for you guys to play (soon).

Q: Why are there independent portraits mixed in the other factions?
A: Because the game sets it this way by default. I do not posses the coding knowledge on how to separate this, hence why I only replaced the default images and added a few on top of the standard ones. I am open for collaboration with anyone that loves to code and can lend me a hand to do these fixes.

Q: Are there any unique player portrait, so I can avoid playing as a clone of any random NPC?
A: Yes, I added around 20ish and they are set to display at the end, although the game mixes the order a bit and i have no clue how to fix that. Preview:

Q: There are lots of AI portraits yet only the first 3 are being used. Why is that!?
A: Good question. To be honest, I have no freaking clue. I suppose it is hardcoded somewhere. For now they are just hanging in there, maybe the devs will change the way this works on a later update. I am not a coder, so I can only do limited edits. Preview:

Q: Is this mod save compatible?
A: Yes. Whenever you need to update, simply overwrite the Mod folder and everything will be groovy.

I ran out of imaginary questions to add.. ^_^

Modding / [0.96a] No More Weapon Deallers
« on: May 14, 2023, 01:17:56 PM »
No one: Why have you made this mod Foxy?

The glorious golden fox that is the protector of the Universe: Oh, I am glad you asked, invisible voice in my head. To be honest, this is not for everyone and it is a very simple game modification. Initially I wanted to remove some items from the dealers (with little success I might add), but then I realized one thing: If you are playing the game via the vanilla story mode, this will drastically break the immersion and pacing of your experience. In essence, weapon dealers are a dirty shortcut to get access to weapons, industry blueprints, ships, drones, etc just by paying money to a shady vendor in a bar. Money is extremely easy to get by in this game if you trade illegal goods for a few hours, and then you find one of this vendors and pay 1 million (which is pocket change) for a perfectly intact capital ship. The mod does exactly what it says, it removes the text option in the bar's and agent's interface to get the buy list.

Now don't get me wrong, I understand the concept of this mechanic for those that are veterans of the game and just want to speed things up and skip a rather large portion of the "grind" to get to the good stuff, but for a more relaxed experience and first time players I think this speedy approach will not feel as rewarding as capturing your valued ships in battle and fixing them, or working your way up a faction's reputation to have access to their military markets, or exploring new and dangerous out of region sectors, and so on. The same applies to the blueprints and weapons. In my opinion, you should not have everything handed to you on a platter, and adapting to the game with what you can acquire by yourself will make the journey worth it and more unique.

Modding / Can someone make a mod to remove arms dealers
« on: May 13, 2023, 05:52:42 PM »
One thing that I find very immersion breaking for me, is the fact that there are these traders (arms dealers) that sell all the high tear ships and weapons and it really scratches my brain the wrong way. I was wondering if there is a mod out there that at least removes the high tear stuff, so I would not be tempted to buy capitals that simply shortcut the game for me by a lot.
I believe that it is far more rewarding to capture a strong ship after a hard battle than to buy it with cash that you can easily gain by selling all sorts of illegal goods. I think a mod like this would benefit more than just me out there. I would make it myself, but I don't know where to find these things in the game files, plus I am not a coder!
Thanks for taking your time to read and reply :)

Intro: I have made this mod initially for personal use, but the more I edited the files the more I realize I can share this beauty (cosmetic mod) with you guys. So here we go again!

Custom Cursors

What does this do?
Spoiler
Well, I am glad you asked. First of all it adds new music, sound effects and graphic illustrations that refine the look and feel of the game. Not to say that the original material is not good, but as it stands right now it's pretty much in broad strokes. I handpicked the things that are adequate for my tastes, and so I have dug the ends of the Internet in search of epic material to enhance the Quality of Life (hehe).

The music and sounds effects have the purpose to give more personality to the various in-game vanilla factions. The Persean League got a color revamp because that yellow was driving me crazy and I was always mixing it with Hegemony. The fog (in the tactical battle screen) has suffered a color change as well since everything was way too blue everywhere, and now everything is easier to follow on the map. Some small adjustments to the zoom camera have been implemented so you can zoom in and see those beautiful ship pixels. I'm too tired to remember the rest, just play and have fun <3

I have added all the credits (in the game files - all creative commons licensed) to all of the materials that I have used, and I highly encourage you guys to browse those links and support those creators, otherwise super hot looking angels from Hell, wielding ancient flaming axes, will descend and challenge you to a boss fight!

Also, in the Quality Of Life\data\config\ in settings.json and sounds.json there are a few extra things (game mechanics and 2 additional music tracks) you can toggle on. I have set those off by default to prevent any other mod incompatibility, and as for the 2 mentioned tracks.. well those are just awesome but they don't really fit in with the game style, but do check them out of you are curious. Do all the changes to your heart's desire, as this is an "all you can edit" buffet, plus I left plenty of descriptions in these files for an easy guide-through! If you have any question, then feel free to desperately scream in the comment section and I will make sure to find you!

As a last mention, I did not replace everything as I wanted to work around some of the core elements of the game to make it feel more natural, hence why I left some of the original illustrations and main campaign tracks in place. This is not meant to be a total conversion, but as my insanity settles in better, I shall try to bring better updates in the future where I see fit.

Known Issues: The sound effect for leveling up also applies to your officers (when you level them up). I did not find a way to separate those 2 in the game files, but let's be real, you will always recruit better officers with max level rather than bothering yourself to upgrade some scurvy rookies!

Modding / Replace the static sound when ships are destroyed
« on: April 26, 2022, 09:28:32 PM »
I have been having difficulty with this one. There is that static sound when a ship dies on the battlefield, but it seems that in sounds.json that sound applies outside battle to a lot of places and there isn't a specific hook that relates only to destroyed ships. Can anyone give me a solution for this? Thank you!

Suggestions / Remove Ships from Weapon Dealer
« on: April 26, 2022, 01:47:20 AM »
I feel like this breaks the immersion of the game. First of all he is called an illegal weapon dealer, which by definition should not include the ships. The second thing is that you can get some really good high tear ships (even though they are a bit more expensive, which is really not an issue for any player mid game), which kind of makes it easy to skip everything related to crunching your way up to get a nice ship from a faction, or to get lucky at finding one while exploring. It really feels like a cheaty shortcut and it kind of shortens the gameplay experience by a lot when you reach your first 2 million (that takes a few hours of doing basic bar missions). Even with colonies, it takes quite a while to get to the point where you find the right blueprints and develop the economics to sustain your production.

Modding / How to Enable Camera Pan by default?
« on: April 23, 2022, 05:06:08 AM »
I want to enable the Camera Pan to be the default mode (when I am in space with my fleet), and I wish to disable the right click action to avoid going back to snapping the camera in the middle. Is there a way to do this in the game files? Thank you!

Suggestions / Combat Moral
« on: April 22, 2022, 09:53:56 AM »
Since there is always a leader (flagship) in the head of the group, why not create a moral status that dwindles when the flagship is destroyed making the enemy retreat faster. Subsequently, the same would happen to the player army if the player's main ship gets destroyed! This implies that the flagship must be defined in your army as your captain does not necessarily have to pilot it.

Modding / [0.96a] Out of Place Characters - Portrait Conversion
« on: April 21, 2022, 11:28:38 AM »
Nota Bene: I legally do not take credit for any of the portraits as I did not give birth to any of these people! This is made in the spirit of good humor and should not be taken as a super serious mod. I certainly had a lot of fun making these.

Q&A!

What does this do?
It replaces all the character portraits in the game with celebrities. Yes, you will be one of those celebrities, so choose wisely!

They don't all look so super great!
Well, what can you do, I worked with what I had available. Some have lower resolution than others and obviously the background colors really make them pop out since trying to crop them out would have been a nightmare. This mod is more oriented to just have a laugh or two with some fun character portraits!

The dialog of the character specifies a different gender than the portrait!
Yeah, that can happen as some characters had helmets on and had no specific gender to go on and then there is also the RNG of the game that does some voodoo magic to select the portraits randomly. I am not a coder, so these little mishaps will happen, though in a variety of rare cases. But if anyone has a good fix for this and can contribute to this mod, I am an open book with sharp spikes and boiling lava!

I don't recognize some of these people!
Neither did I, since.. fun fact: I didn't realize that the average person only likes and keeps up with information for a maximum of 80 or so celebrities out there. I had to scrap the bottom of the barrel really hard to double that number to meet the portrait quota of the game. In other words I was begging the search engine to find me some extra celebrities even if they were less known! So here we are.. story of my life!

Can I change one of the portraits if I don't like it?
Hahahahahaha, NO.. but Yes.. I have a nice trick for you to do that: All you need to do is go into the mods/opc/graphics/portraits folder and find the one you want to exterminate and replace and use the following tutorial on how to create your new Portrait. The Portrait Specifications: keep the same name, make sure you save as .PNG, and make sure the size is 128x128px.

What if I want to add extra portraits for myself?
You can use my other mod (along side of this one) called: Play as Yourself

Mods / [0.96a] Super Cool Faction Flags - get them while they are hot!
« on: April 17, 2022, 06:59:42 AM »
Prologue: I was sitting on my bathroom throne and I was pondering what could I improve on this game to make life a better place in the Universe? And then my light bulb sparked on (there was no power in the house so I was doing all of this in the darkness) - and there was light! I give you all my handmade faction flags so you can be happy and destroy everything in sight while having pretty pictures to look at.
Download here:

If you want the SGV files to have some fun and improve upon my designs, click the icon bellow to download:

Spoiler
Update 1:The SGV is very messy as I did not bother to organize, since InkScape is a pain when it comes to layer management. I have organized the SGV a bit better so you guys can navigate it easier and because my OCD was screaming at me, but I did not bother to name stuff because.. I have a girlfriend! I decided to split all the flags into individual SGV files and make them better organized and happy. If you have it in your heart and you do use my designs, please throw a little credit my way, or at the very least take a lighten candle at 3 am in the middle of the woods and sacrifice some chocolate in the name of Nyarlathotep, son of Azathoth, while chanting: "IƤ Hastur cf'ayak'vulgtmm, vugtlagln vulgtmm". Bless your corrupted heart!
Update 2: Added 2 new flag factions (Ko-Combine and Ai Remnant) and edited the black-market image. For the black-market, since it is not a faction and is rather part of the colonies, I decided to use a sweet background image (author credits are in the files).

Update 3: Added flags for lowtech, midline, hightech and modified the hegemony and tritachion ones a bit! Three more minor factions left and I am done with the flags!

Update 4: I have finally finished my journey with the main faction flags. I added the Player Flag, Mbaye Gogol, The Domain Explorarium and The Domain of Man. Now begins my epic journey into the player colony flags, so be on the watch for that as well!

Update 5: I have completed the player flags (with the raw files, bla bla bla, you know the lyrics by now), have fun!

Ok, hi..

So, ever wanted to play as yourself in this game but never knew how!? Have no fear, Foxy is here and I am ready to save the day! Here is a mod that does exactly what you want.. more or less!

Download here:

Instructions:
Spoiler

1. Unpack it and put the content into the "mod" folder in your game

2. Go into the mod folder in pay/graphics/portraits and replace your reflect.. I mean the placeholder image called "pay.png" with your own, but don't rename the file! The size of your majestic picture should be 128x128px and it needs to be in .png format!

3. Here is a tutorial on how to crop and resize your brain container in GIMP:

4. Alternatively, if you are a masochist you can try to do this in MS-Paint (kids, don't try this at home)!

5. Profit!

Love you all, and have a fun time <3

Update: I shall make a dedicated mod for sounds and alerts to improve the game experience. Keep on the lookout for that in my signature area!

Also, here is a snapshot of my screen (because I am so a-technical that I have no clue how to printscreen my game.. Don't Judge Me!).
