Suggestions / Ship horn button (noise in space)
« on: March 07, 2023, 12:01:30 AM »
Okay, this is a silly idea. But what if SS had a button to sound the ship's horn? I know, I know, no sound in space, but perhaps a ship is simply shouting into all comms channels with simulated horns.... Drive bubble ping, local hyperwave distortion, whatever you want to call it. ;D

As a bonus, it'd be fun to hear pirates toot the horn while burn driving into battle.

Suggestions / Eagle and (base) Falcon remain anemic
« on: November 20, 2022, 12:12:34 PM »
I don't have hard numbers to back this claim up, but even after their buff, I still cannot find reasons to field Eagles and Falcons in any fleet approaching 'optimal'. One can make them work, but other cruisers are simply better than they are.

Falcons are fast and low DP, sure, but lack the firepower to effectively perform a hunter-killer role against its intended prey (destroyers), are regularly outdone in damage output by said destroyers, and tend to blow themselves up with alarming regularity versus any hint of resistance, because their intermittent speed advantage does not suffice as a defensive measure.

Eagles are .. offensively mediocre in all regards. In a fleet, the Dominator is a chunk of metal and missiles that'll hold off and wear down an enemy capital. The Champion, a heavy cruiser in the same doctrine group, is not only better armed and armored but also enjoys a greater base speed (50 vs 60) and HEF easily compensates for its on-paper slightly weaker flux stats. The Gryphon is a Gryphon. The Fury carries nearly all the firepower of an Aurora at a significantly lower cost, with a strong ability to aggress. And let's not get started on the Eradicator...

What do you think could be done to help our poor avian cousin-cruisers? Personally, these are some options I considered:

 Falcon
- Slight bump in speed
- Upsize small missiles to medium missiles, or extra pair of smalls
- Inbuilt HSA-like mod to encourage some types of beam as a small ship zapper

 Eagle
- Slight bump in speed
- Extra pair of small missiles
* Built-in Advanced Optics or Energy Bolt Coherer
* Hangar bay? Modular or otherwise

Suggestions / Less Ill-Advised Mods for Vanilla Path
« on: October 15, 2022, 01:56:44 AM »
I've been playing with Well-Advised Modifications and have been better appreciating the Pather doctrine, since their ships don't get checked by raw RNG as they approach me. Only the player, who is able to remove hullmods, can utilize their ships to their fullest potential.

After some time, I felt it'd be good if the vanilla Path had some kind of bonus or special mod that reduces the suckiness of IAM; they could get a special mod that reduces critical malfunction chance. Since standardized skills are mentioned in the blogposts for factions, another extra touch would be to give all Pather officers Damage Control and/or Combat Endurance to reflect their ability to keep their ramshackle ships running. Thoughts?

When fighting a fleet that has ships with Phase Anchor installed, it's possible for a ship to engage an Emergency Dive, fight in the pursuit/next engagement despite being at essentially 0%, then Emergency Dive again the moment they take damage.

Maybe this shouldn't be possible? Call it 'the stress will break the damaged hull apart' or something like that.

Suggestions / Selectable pool for random player and ship names
« on: December 28, 2021, 07:12:10 PM »
It would be nice to allow us to select the pool(s) from which our player name can be generated. For example, if I wanted to try an Imperium-themed or Magellan-themed run, I may want to generate a player name only from the Roman or Magellan pools.

It would also be dope to extend this feature to ship names.

Suggestions / Operations Center should have an effect for non-flagships
« on: October 08, 2021, 01:35:56 PM »
Some (mod) ships have this as a built-in and it can also be an (unlikely) s-mod on an alternate or retired flagship. It doesn't feel good to have a mod that's completely dead when the player isn't on board, is a hard sell per-OP even when aboard, and I have not ever seen enemy flagships add Operations Center to their autofits.

Maybe Ops Center could provide some slight bonus when not directly piloted? Smaller-than-usual bonus to global command point gain, +1.5% nav rating when a non-admiral officer is on board... ship AI tweaked to be less likely to break away from allied ships? Lol.

Thoughts?

Suggestions / Weapon/Fighter Sorted Hullmod Style
« on: September 27, 2021, 10:42:52 AM »
With enough mods installed, weapon and fighter listings can get truly bloated.

Suggest we be able to sort by design type, and role, at the very least. I've got a *** mockup for it.

Suggestions / 'Follow Goal Variant exactly'
« on: July 15, 2021, 09:34:35 AM »
I find this more of a Missions issue. The fitter seems fond of granting ships undesired weapon "upgrades".

While outfitting ships yourself is often more efficient, there are times I like to tweak default and mod-default variants as they are, not with several of their mounts replaced with weapons from different mods altogether. I wouldn't even mind a toggle that tells the fitter to leave a mount blank if the listed weapon is unavailable in the campaign mode.

Not a high priority thing, certainly, but it would be a nice option!

Minor change, but in my opinion something that could be helpful. Sometimes can't tell at a glance if the weapon I'm trying to fire is actually firing or not.  ;D

Suggestions / Notify players of end of available storyline
« on: May 13, 2021, 08:25:54 AM »
I've been seeing people ask this fairly often and have done the same myself, so I think this is a fair suggestion:

Give the player some kind of notification that they've reached the end of the current questline. I know Nex does this, but it's not obvious in vanilla runs.  ;)

It's a little vexing that the AI fleets zoom over to you immediately to tell you to flick the damn thing on, but happily ignore all the Smugglers practically on top of them doing the same thing.

The same AI-centrism also helps you pull off distracting them, but it does feel quite unbelievable that only you get hassled over it.
