hey guys always loved the game but since the day i started playing it ive thought the faction balance is totally messed up.  every game ive ever played is nothing but hegemony steam rolling the others. 

is this the intention?

Modding / npc starting locations

hey guys was just trying to get another campaign going and this time and i was going to try and run with a max amount of planets and a small amount of populated worlds with the hopes of getting a more fleshed out galaxy that might get expanded upon as time goes on, but i started it up and noticed that my factions were interspersed and mixed up all over the galaxy and was wondering if there was a way to concentrate npc starting locations so they can be clustered together with their own factions.  Some kind of seem like they do, but its still a pretty mixed bag as a whole and id like to have each faction have a half a dozen planets of their own spread over a small area so they dont get rolled and can support each other economically or militarily if they arent all spread out.

anyone have any ideas on how i can group ai starting systems more together?

always love the game but ive been trying to kill the large stations for a very long time now and honestly i dont understand whats going on here.   it shows no ships in orbit, but yet when you go into battle it shows hes got battleships and a small fleet in defense in the battle menu, then you get into the actual battle and hes not only got that but hes got FOUR TIMES that. oh np ive got 4 massive defense fleets that i pulled over from another planet i took earlier (offensive fleets dont work they have sued for peace before the attack fleets arrive 3-4 times in a row and the fleet just disappears and no refund, so can only use defense fleets that i order to follow me to attack), and after killing the ships it shows hes supposed to have in the battle menu MORE battleships start warping in one at a time.

i came really close this time to taking it, and the station was down to its last section, but the 6-7th battleship to arrive warped in, boosted up and basically chewed my engines and automatically killed me after because i was facing the other direction still trying to half solo the station while my own defense fleet reinforcements (of crap) seemed to have just finally depleted and i had blown up before i could get back to what was left of them or retreat off the map.

any advice here?  this is in a long line of attempts and i kinda feel like theres a secret that im missing like many things to this game i need to do before it will let me do this....

hey guys, so didnt have a problem in the past, but this patch seems to be brutal in regards to your friendly ai and combat.  i have battleships and a full stack, but any bounty over 200k is a large enough fight where out of 8 of them ive had a perfect run, then suddenly one of my ships flies off into the enemy pack and i dont see him and boom a bs that was full is now instantly dead. 

Its been the same thing literally every time ive tried a battle of decent size.   i had to move my pilots from aggressive to steady already as the aggressive ones all just wonder into enemy fire and die anyways, but even this seems like a problem now. 

so in short, how do you keep the idiot ai from committing suicide? i literally cant win fights of relative size now without unacceptable casualties and i wasnt having any issues in the past.  i try and pull them back and they just dont respond.

Suggestions / can we get a psa about smuggling?

so ive watched the ai security break game physics to keep pace with me in several ways over the course of the last hour of testing, saving and loading, while also chasing me across multiple systems so i was just wondering can we get an announcement to how smuggling isnt allowed anymore or what magic thing we are supposed to do to actually get away?

this last case i juked it, was at my emergency burn and it just shot out like a bullet to catch me (if he ever had to hit his burn i never saw the animation at all this time).  must have been the fastest moving fleet ive ever seen in the game by a fair margin and finally realized what i was dealing with and that i wasnt going to get away no matter what i did...

oh and he only had a burn speed of 1 or 2 more then i did and the gates werent that far away. (altho this is aside from when you go through the gate and its just magically on top of you despite being far behind you previously)

edit: i was just going to delete all this, but that doesnt seem to be an option.  still, i have shielded cargo, and it gets you 100% on that too.

hey guys, just used to see folks talking about combat freighter builds but seems like you have to destroy too much to make them worth it.  how do you do this without save scumming past the whole process if the enemy is overwhelming?

Hey guys, so i just started a new campaign, and had been doing everything by the book thinking that would get the cops off my back for once, but i bought a whole ship on the normal market, but bought fuel and supply and a gun or two and i got a negative rep rating, then i get inspected 3 times in a row just going between 2 points where they find no contraband but i get 3 more rep hits?

so they are going to start shooting at me because i bought a few accessories? is there a mod that turns this off?

hey guys, just noticed this black line that goes down the left side of the screen when in hyper space.  tried loading, restarting etc but still see it.  not sure if its doing it all the time, but i have noticed it before.

i am running lazylib, magiclib and graphics lib with nex and some faction mods now, and not a huge problem overall but at least wanted to make a note of it.

hey guys was trying to start up another nex campaign but in my last game i came to the realization that the independents dont seem to take part much on the combat side and end up just feeding the other factions and caused some problems, and was just wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for a mod faction that is compatible and balanced with the rest of the game to take their place. 

going to be doing equal weights and random core worlds so hegemony doesnt take over the galaxy and going to keep both rebel factions but make random relationships to try and keep things as even as possible.  ai being able to make use of the mod ships would be a plus. just looking for a good core experience and dont want anything over the top if i can find it.

hey guys, only mod i have going is the nex and autosave mod.  its been good up till now but ya im in one of the most populated systems in the game and when i dock i can see market data on one good, but then i sell it and look at another and the f1 option to see sector market rates no longer appears and it tells me i need to be in range of the thing. 

i have been in copious amounts of combat in system recently but didnt think that would interfere with displaying market data would it?

edit: guess i did tear down a comm relay for salvage.  but would this prevent me from seeing market data in the core worlds? and then have a delayed effect in doing so? (again it worked fine, then i moved over to another good to sell and it disappeared).  tried accessing it in space, at another station leaving the system and loading and resetting the game with no effect.

EDIT: well not sure whats going on, but went to a third system and now its suddenly working again.

so was doing a nex campaign (hope its okay to post here, the main thread seemed inappropriate) and hegemony expanded so quickly that by the time i was finally getting some real industries going and my first system secured they had taken over half the galaxy and the faction i was aligned with made an alliance with hegemony and then bam diplomatic victory.

now heg has taken over so much so quickly that i think it might not be a bad place to start over even tho im just now on my feet, but what do you find is the best starting settings? i can throw on weights, and randomize the map but then it seems like it REALLY randomize faction starting locations and im worried that some of the factions will just end up getting crushed.

what do you feel is the best way?

so ive noticed that when leveling up your guys, once you see one fighter skill come up thats all you will see until they are maxed and they force them down your throat and give you no other options.  how do i get around this? i dont need all carrier pilots.
