Suggestions / 'Auto-run' exploration
« on: June 26, 2022, 07:23:03 PM »
While exploring newly discovered star systems, I've wanted frequently to set my fleet on automatic in basic patterning consisting of straight orbital revolutions and concentric ascents away from stars or descents up to but before the corona of stars. The linear orbital revolutions would really be nice for searching through asteroid belts and rings of planets or stars. The concentric ascents and descents would be great for picking out all of the statics in a star system. Maybe there can even be a nice bonus to supply reduction while doing so, like some kinda "tidal lock" sci-fi mechanism.

Bug Reports & Support / Shepherd Drone Tender random disabling
« on: April 27, 2021, 05:35:56 PM »
It is the only ship in the fleet to do this. It could be at any point in a battle even when all the enemy are gone and a Shepherd will spontaneously explode it would seem. I haven't actually caught sight of it happening, but it's occurred at least three times without any reasonable explanation.

General Discussion / title_screen_variants.csv Title Screen Variants

Very cool. Does the wiki have a roster of ships and variants so I can copy-paste a cool fly-by idle screen? All ships works?!  ;D

Bug Reports & Support (modded) / VRAM issues linked to .95 update
« on: April 23, 2021, 10:37:06 AM »
I've only ever seen orange error messages about low vram from Starsector until after updating to .95. I used to play the previous version with Nexerelin and many other mods and have never received the error message.

Thing is, my laptop only runs the game with all resources already given over to the game. Normally I get 20 to 30 fps in hyperspace and in combat, about 10 frames. This is the same performance I get in the update, so I'm wondering why the game is now always warning me about vram. Has the message only been included in this update? I could turn it off in the settings and carry on, it's mostly a nuisance on the screen.

Alex and the other guys need a pat on the back and a round of beers for coming up with quest lines that lead the player on trips out to nowhere based on rumors from drunks. These are quests that no player should take for granted because of the esoteric value, and a delight to formative and young minds. Maybe we'll get a Ludd Holy Grail quest?

Somewhat related to the topic at hand is the much improved storytelling. I am impressed at how the game universe is taking shape. Things aren't quite Full Grimdark just yet. There was mention of the Age of Mercenaries, and it would be really neat to get as much of that real world lore and mythos into the game, from all of the sources.

General Discussion / Best way to go sneaky beaky like?
« on: April 05, 2021, 01:35:16 PM »
I've been doing a single dram run for like years now, doing spy sat missions, drop offs, some light recreational substance trade, but mostly explorations.

I'm trying to jank the Hegemony at Jangala, and my sensor profile is 158, using insulated engines and dark mode, but I might have to jsut hang out in the asteroid belt nearby for a week to get the spy thingie in place. The patrols are pretty heavy and they seem to locate me immediately when my sensor profile is at the default 158.

I'm almost always peeling away at light speed right after I drop the satellite, so if the faction doesn't think to look for something suspicious then, then it would just be simple to make the missions even easier by blasting into the orbit as quick as you can.

Attached is a simple image I drew, that may or may not be what the devs have in mind, but it'd be a common sense addition in terms of "quality-of-life" and fits the sci-fi/grimdark theme of the game in that people should be able to guess how long trips would take and let the Fates decide if that works out or not.

So, basically, I guess I just want to draw on the map temporarily to connect dots and gauge how long that would take in days, weather faring(or hyperstorms or something).

PS: I had to cancel two trips when I got back to Arcadia for a Pirate espionage as I wouldn't make it. :(

General Discussion / Maximum fighter bays and recovery costs
« on: April 02, 2021, 03:13:38 PM »
So which carriers are counted first toward the skill? Is it which ones are higher up and to the left in the fleet menu? Also, what's that supposed to mean about a maximum recovery cost? I'll try to post a screenshot of that.

Seems like slavery to me. I can't come up with any honorably economic reason(Vaisyas have dharma too) why someone buys crew for a higher price on the black market. Without TriTech vats brewing up the goods, there is always the reliable way of harvesting organ meat.

Is crew affiliation going to be made more dynamic later on, as in faction to faction? There needs to be some character reputation repercussions for dumping a bunch of crew members onto certain unfavorable worlds or something.

General Discussion / First contacts with civilization in a long time

It would seem that when I spend months away from the core worlds, that the first broadcasts I receive are bounties to kill people. XD Not complaining.

General Discussion / Carrier ship skills
« on: October 06, 2020, 03:47:53 PM »
When the skill says "fighters from piloted ship," is that only a bonus to actual fighter types or for all types of small craft?

I put reckless officers in a group of Shepards to tear up the one or two sized [REDACTED] scouts which is very doable but they never change their AI pattern as if they had no officers at all. One is targeted by a ship and the rest stay far back behind it. They all have sabots so would clean up these tiny scout patrols.

Modding / What's your recommended Pirate mod?
« on: September 28, 2020, 03:27:26 PM »
I was hoping for some added Pirate functionality that can work with Nexerelin, without too many additional ships added to the current roster. I was checking this out: https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=16921.0 and it looks alright, but I gotta be real picky about that battleship. I just don't like how it looks.

There was a video uploaded by, I assume, a Russian, about taking a Dram as the only fleet ship and solo exploring for big payouts. The strategy required no initial leveling up or specific skills, the gameplay strategy was good to go out the starting gates. The video should still be on the forum but I just can't find it in a search, using "youtube" or some other variants and it's really difficult to find on youtube itself.

I average 18 fps in hyperspace and have fps limited to 30 which I hit when in a system. What's causing hyperspace to drag my fps down and can I remove the background or other graphics to help? I disabled hypersapce storms using Grand Sector so that's not interfering.
