Suggestions / Let Us Refit Player Stations
« on: February 14, 2022, 08:12:36 PM »
It would be nice to be able to manually refit player stations, especially with mods where some very bad station fits appear. I'd understand not adding this if it's too OP

Suggestions / Balance of the Vanguard
« on: January 07, 2022, 05:57:06 PM »
Currently, the Vanguard is a bit under-powered. With burn drive and it's speed, it is innately fun to fly, but lacks damage. The main problem with it is damper field is it's main defense, and when it is using damper field, it can't fire. In fights, the Vanguard burn drives in, ready to fight, then it uses damper field, and nothing comes out. The enemy is firing at it, and it is taking 66% less damage, but not firing back. This means that in most duels, for the Vanguard to be able to kill it's enemy, it has to take considerable damage, because it has to shoot with damper field off. After talking with some other people, I think the solution to this would be to let the Vanguard fire while damper field is on, but add a different drawback to using damper field, like a high activation flux cost. This sounds very powerful (and it is), but this fulfills the intended role of the Vanguard, a low-tech elite frigate.

Suggestions / Piranha Bombers ignoring shields and PD
« on: December 29, 2021, 01:59:54 PM »
Sometimes when I'm piloting a capita, and there are Piranhas coming towards me, for some reason or another they fly above my ship (in the sprite) and can drop bomb which I have no way of avoiding.I can understand the problem is I don't have enough PD, but I think it doesn't make sense that Piranhas can sometimes do unavoidable damage.

Bug Reports & Support (modded) / [0.95a RC11] Storm Needler Won't Fire
« on: March 30, 2021, 10:12:31 AM »
I tried shooting a storm needler I put on my ship, but it wouldn't fire. I'm not sure if it was even firing at the start of combat, but trying multiple things like turning on and off autofire, holding fire, and getting the weapon disabled and ready again didn't get the weapon working. I also tried manually firing it.
here is a video https://youtu.be/95VrvMa-N6Q
also I was using mods, I can give a modlist if one is needed.

Suggestions / Weapon Selection Improvement
« on: March 22, 2021, 08:21:11 PM »
Could there be an option to change what order weapons are displayed in when selecting weapons in the refit screen? Since there are already options at the top to sort by where you buy weapons and what types, it would make sense to change the order to OP decreasing, like what fighters already have. It would also save a little bit of scrolling when trying weapons on a ship.

Suggestions / Option for shift in combat to be a toggle
« on: February 19, 2021, 08:40:30 AM »
The way shift works now (with inverted shift enabled in settings), if I want to pilot a ship with an omni shield, I have to hold shift the entire time I am using the omni shield. It would be nice if there was another setting to make shift function as a toggle, where you only have to press it once and it changes behavior.

also:
I know there is a setting to do this in the campaign, but I would like it to function as a toggle in combat too.

Suggestions / More Obvious Planets on The Map
« on: February 01, 2021, 03:01:21 PM »
I would be nice if some small barren worlds (or all planets maybe?) were more obvious on the system map. Sometimes I'm looking for a bounty, and I can't find the planet because it blends in to an asteroid belt.

In this picture, where I am traveling to a small barren planet, and it's barely visible.

The way I found it was looking at the system overview, so it's not that much of a problem, but it might be hard for newer players trying to find planets.

Suggestions / Fleet Sorting For 0.95?
« on: January 14, 2021, 05:14:58 PM »
Fleet sorting options would be nice for the next update. I know that recovering ships will now put them in the same place in you fleet before, but could we get some options to sort fleets? Like "Sort by CR" or "Sort by highest maintenance" or "Sort by DP".

Modding / How to Download and Change Graphics Lib Settings
« on: December 29, 2020, 12:58:19 PM »
This is a small guide for how to change your settings for Graphics Lib, and download it. The main reason you might want to change them is because your PC can't handle the default settings, so the game is laggy. Don't be afraid if this is the case, Vanilla Starsector can run on almost any PC, and default Graphics Lib settings are much more demanding.

To Download the mod:
  • First, you want to download the mod. All you have to do is go to this page https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=10982.0, and click the big download at the top.

  • Next, you have to extract the file. I'm not sure if Winzip can unzip a 7z file, but if not, you have to install 7zip. Here's a link to that https://www.7-zip.org/download.html You probably just want one of the top 2 downloads, based on if your system is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Then, you have to right click on the file, hover over 7-zip, and click "Extract Here".

  • After that navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Fractal Softworks\Starsector\mods", or you can paste that path into the top bar,

and put the extracted GraphicsLib file into the mods folder

Also make sure you didn't drag GraphicsLib into another mod's folder!

Yay! Now that you put GraphicsLib into the mods folder, you can edit the mod's settings

To edit the settings using preset options:
  • Open the GraphicsLib folder and open "Preset Options". Then open one of the folders based on what setting you want. Use "Craptop" for low-end systems. Then right click on the "GRAPHICS_OPTIONS" file, and copy it.

  • Then go back to "GraphicsLib", and paste the file.

  • Last click "Replace the file in the destination", and you now have a preset option set.

To edit the settings manually:

Open the GraphicsLib folder, right click on "GRAPHICS_OPTIONS", hover over "Open with", and click on Notepad.

Now you can change all the settings to your heart's content. Be sure to read the text that comes after a # to understand what changing the settings does. The way you change the settings is by changing "true" to "false" or changing the number after the colon. Be sure to only change the part right after the quoted text and the colon.
