It's a real shame that trying to add beam swords to a weapon mount would be a difficult ask. Maybe making it attached to an animated Mech arm?

YESSSS UPDATE IS HERE
My life isn't complete without Uhlan Siege Lasers and Wanzer Swarms!
Now I just need to grab that experimental hull mod mod so that I can slap large turret slots onto one of the Mecha from Arma Armature, give it a Wanzer escort, and do outlandish things with my Siege Mecha.

Personally, I use both in conjunction. Fighter-wise, wanzers win every time IMO. They're just so much more survivable and deadly. What brings Arma back into the game, though, is Frigate Mechs and their Destroyer/Cruiser sized Mechs. Frigate Mechs can act as cheap Carrier ships, especially with that DP mod, and the ones without escorts can be modded to have escorts, allowing you to carry Wanzers on them.
Then you pair them with a few larger ships to anchor the formation and go for full swarm!

I dunno if you saw the same thread, but apparently all the coding for spawning the orbital mirrors and shades and such are actually in the Starsector files associated with the systems. If you can find them, I doubt it would be that much extra work to jury-rig the starbase spawning script into working for the stellar shaders and orbital mirrors for their respective buildings.

What it says on the tin. If there is any way to make it so that on the back-end, Starsector is able to recognize skills that are NPC-only vs. PC-only, it could really open up some doors in moddability.
