General Discussion / Re: Destroyers

When I usually see people talking about frigates being good or better then destroyers, 90% of the time it's a high tech frigate.

A wing of disposable hammerheads or sunders can easily support the flanks of a capital ships fight, and slap away most enemy frigates contesting the capture points.

SO Brawler TT can do the same job for 5DP and not die in the process.

SO anything is generally stronger then anything without it.

To me destroyers are the frigates of the late game. And some frigates are basically the same cost as a destroyer.

A wing of disposable hammerheads or sunders can easily support the flanks of a capital ships fight, and slap away most enemy frigates contesting the capture points.

Their loss in battle means basically nothing to your bottom line.

AI tools just seem kinda lazy for me, when it comes to art. So I'm against them.

Why should this up to you and not up to the player deciding to download the mod or not?

The only rule I'd agree with is one that asks modders to put in the thread title that their mod uses AI generated imagery.

It is interesting seeing how worked up people get because other people don't like these tools.

What kind of argument is that... I think producing music on a computer software is lame compared to recording the sounds yourself, you don't see me trying to ban that for people that want to make music in an easier way.

The more I read responses about this topic, the more I am for AI generated content. And I really really think one huge thing that would happen, as was stated many times previously, is fragmenting the community even more. No one wants that.

I think people should be free to use them if they want.

I am still against them.

I've found Falcons with HVD's to skirmish, and antimatter blasters for a finisher to be a cool combo.

I like them as cheap economic cruisers when compared to the tougher more expensive stuff.

You might not want them in a big line battle, but for raiding and anti-raiding their speed and cost helps!

It's really nice, especially with proper carriers in support.

As just the one isn't really worth doing on it's own. But the more ships that have one just turns thing up to eleven!

I've done a luddite game where every ship that can fit an extra fighter bay gets one. You end up with hilarious swarms of fighters.

As for the frigates I just accepted that most of them will die in battle and to just not worry about it, went for derelict operations and rolled with my fleet of garbage.

I don't value most frigates as great escorts for my capital ships in the later game, and with a default of only 30 ships in the players fleet I tend to stuck to reinforced bulkhead destroyers like the Sunder.

Some frigates are incredible, but even those I wouldn't value too highly in starbase battles or against foes like the AI with their own super frigates.

The only issues I've had with beam fleets is getting the AI to focus fire rather then spreading out their lasers.

Otherwise you only need a little burst fire-power to tip a 99% beam fleet into godly territory.

Men and supplies are cheap. IP locked hightech automated systems are not.

To be fair you need good logistics to deploy a Legion without being murdered by loansharks.

I'm a big fan of my knife fighting onslaught covered in duel and heavy machine guns.

Stick a couple reaper torpedo launchers on there and it'll shred anything that is stupid enough to get too close!
