Sounds like a game you pick up and play for an hour then come back to it later.

I'll pick it up when it goes on sale. :)

I bought both but I'm still waiting for my Starfarer key so I can only comment on SPAZ. I think it's a great game, a bit cartoonish with some humor.
It does have grinding for resources and ships but you will need them to survive the storyline missions.

The game reminds me of Star Control and I think there's even a ship from it:

The second one from bottom left.

Ps. the best games seem to come from indie developers these days.

Thardassh something. Special was spitting out flame from it's butt heh.

Isn't that the Comm Relay that gives you a lot of Fleet Points? Sensor Array increases Weapon Range IIRC. Been a while since I booted up the game, I've done every mission at least five times now.

played the demo, but it just didn't feel like what I was looking for...

The combat felt like... water, compared to that of starfarer, which feels more like syrup:
water is light, runny, and just doesn't have the sort of power to it that I'm looking for.
syrup is thick, heavy, rich and awesome, full of sweet sugary goodness. Even a frigate on frigate battle feels so much more... visceral... than a comparable battle in SPAZ.

Yeah that's what it looked like to me after watching TotalBiscuit's video. Interesting analogy, makes me hungry. :)

Major tip: Capture the sensor array at all costs!

I didn't use VS cause I didn't want to invite a flame war. :) I was just wondering if SPAZ is worth the purchase? The ship designs I can say by the videos aren't as good or maybe I just don't like the style.

I think an audio cue would take away from the gameplay a bit. Then instead of managing it you'll just wait for the audio cue then just hit V automatically. I much prefer Blips idea of having some sort of UI element added to the cursor.

I think the targeting lanes are fine myself. If you make them pop out anymore they'd be too obtrusive. Like the fourth weapon group on your cruiser in 'The Last Hurrah'. That would look terrible if the targeting lanes were to be any more distinct.

Oh yeah we are aware of SPAZ. But not in the way of competition. I am actually really excited about SPAZ myself.

The way I see it there cannot ever be too much of what we, and they, are doing  :)

That looks interesting, but different too. Looking at the Youtube channel, you guys should get Starfarer featured! Totalbiscuit is pretty entertaining.

I asked Alex about this and he said it'd be a feature somewhere down the road. Was wonder if anyone has FRAPs and tried recording? There's a free version so am gonna try that out when I get home.
