Using a swarm of faster ships, a good tactic I've found is to let the fleet engage without any commands at all until the battle starts forming a clear line, then using eliminate on the weakest points in the enemy line, usually the two ends. This tends to result in a kill and more pressure on the rest of the enemy, which in turn provides more weak-points to trim, until the enemy doesn't have enough firepower to hold off the frigate swarm.

Just imagine the enemy fleet as a big unruly bush that you have to trim down into a nice little hedge... and then keep trimming. The more firepower you have in an area compared to the enemy, the weaker that point of the enemy's line. Large ships that have managed to get into a bad position are especially good targets.

Maybe throw in an option for frigate lovers even where the other choices offer destroyers or larger? I'd take two wolves or even a wolf and a hound over a single hammerhead any day, for example.

I personally still find the hound plenty enjoyable to fly and indeed still use them in my frigate swarms, though it can be tough to find survivable loadouts once I start swarming targets such as the templar.

I think you can simulate rolling the ship pretty well just by turning the ship a bit to the side, imo, since in space you don't actually have to face your enemies head-on.

The fix doesn't actually seem to be that hard.

Step one: Download 9.6 from the first post, unpack it like you would any other mod.

Step two: Go to Starsector/mods/Templars/data/scripts/util

Step three: Open TEM_Util.java with any text editor, such as notepad.

Step four: Scroll to the bottom, and replace

I like to throw SO on shadowyard's Inanna with a bunch of phase-lance type weapons, the speed and great base flux stats give it great survivability as it hit'n runs enemy ships.

If a change to the jar isn't actually needed to fix the crash, maybe you could get the next version out without messing with that whole bitbucket thing. Just make the change to the already jar'd 9.6 version and upload that?

Seems like it could save you a bit of time and get people's next Templar fix out sooner...   ;D
