General Discussion / Re: how many coronal taps exist in the map?
« on: February 20, 2022, 12:46:56 PM »
Just to make sure this isn't a simple confusion, there's a difference between the coronal hypershunt (structure in a star's corona, shows up on the system map) and the hypershunt tap (item used to take advantage of an activated coronal hypershunt for a colony in range). See https://starsector.fandom.com/wiki/Coronal_Hypershunt and https://starsector.fandom.com/wiki/Hypershunt_Tap

It's possible (as far as I know) for a hypershunt tap to spawn in a system that has a coronal hypershunt. Maybe double check exactly which wording the intel uses?

I have a crash that I think is from this mod?
Updating the mod should fix this issue, your version is a little out of date.

Thank you so much! That fixed it. (And how embarrassing--that should have been the first thing I checked.)

I have a crash that I think is from this mod? (Love the mod, btw.) I get a NullPointerException crash whenever I open the intel screen.

finding the ISS Athena and winning the fight. I don't think A Memory had appeared in my quests until I found the ship.

I'm playing with lots of other mods--notably Nexerelin with random sector. Full mod list below, but here's a wild guess at what it might be:
Spoiler
ISS Athena spawned wayyy in the northwest corner of the map, in a system containing the new boss fight from the latest update of Xhan Empire. Since that system is its own constellation, I'm guessing Xhan generates it separately from the regular sector generation? Maybe that causes some kind of interference with A Memory?

LOVE this mod!

Question about some of the exploration content:
Spoiler
I found the Cronosos frigate, which is very cool! But it doesn't seem to lose speed while phased as hard flux goes up, unlike other phase ships in 0.95.1. Is that intended?

I'm not complaining, but the ship is already incredibly powerful with phase + its system, so I do kinda feel like I'm cheating.

General Discussion / Re: Phase Anchor is absurdly overpowered.
« on: January 19, 2022, 02:56:19 AM »
[...] makes Phase Anchor useless for Afflictor.

I think this is overstated. (I've been thinking about what you said in the other thread and trying things out; I wonder if you'll disagree with what I say here.)

Phase Anchor is incompatible with the most effective strategy for skilled Afflictor pilots. If you want to be fast enough to dodge omni shields, you need speed, so Phase Anchor is no good. A fast Afflictor in skilled hands can solo ridiculous fleets and with a few friends can do things I literally can't imagine (because I'm not that good).

But Phase Anchor makes AMB Afflictor more forgiving for low-skill pilots like me. I can't reliably dodge omni shields even with Adaptive Phase Coils, but if I mess up and hit shields with an AMB salvo in my Phase Anchor Afflictor, I can get another shot while damage is still increased and the target's flux is up. I'm not soloing omni-shielded cruisers, but I can manage tougher omni destroyers with Phase Anchor and not without. In a fleet, I can still pick my spots to be effective, and the higher dps from Phase Anchor gives me less time to make mistakes and get hurt.

So, right, I'd say Afflictor doesn't make best use of Phase Anchor and Phase Anchor doesn't make best use of Afflictor, but this part time Afflictor pilot goes from liability to almost competent when I switch from speed (coils) to power (anchor).

ETA: Oh also I bet playing with Phase Anchor makes it harder to git gud. I'm not even trying all that hard to dodge omni shields, so I'm not picking up the skill you have.

To be fair cloaking while rearming weapons always seemed to be like the best use for phase ships but that was incredible boring to do last patch. This patch though, with the Phase Anchor it's fun.

This is exactly how I feel. But I also feel like it's made Doom a lot less fun--PA Doom isn't mobile enough to be its old self, and without a large mount to carry something like a tachyon lance, it doesn't deal nearly the damage it could. I really like the phase lance + light needler build you posted on Youtube, but I take sooo much more damage in phase lance range than I do in tach lance range.

I've been enjoying the Ouggom phase cruiser from the Xhan Empire mod, which feels fun to me--more power (can mount a tach lance + 3 heavy needlers), but a little more fragile than Doom.

General Discussion / Re: We need weapons that counter fast ships
« on: January 12, 2022, 06:25:13 AM »
Phase Anchor is actually useless on Afflictor. You'd need to use wrong tactics to benefit from it's effect. Which is staying in phase after shot instead of venting immediately to reload AMBs faster. But this doesn't reload system any faster [...]

OTOH, it does let you get two AMB shots off in one system activation window.

I'm no expert Afflictor pilot, but my pattern is close to yours--

Short approach - shoot - short retreat - vent - repeat.

Short approach - shoot - phase - shoot again - phase to vent soft flux while retreating - vent - repeat

My phase anchor Afflictor is definitely slower than yours, but it's still plenty fast for anything I've tried to do/run away from. (But again I'm no expert.)

General Discussion / Re: Your favorite mod ship
« on: January 12, 2022, 02:21:39 AM »
I only picked this ship up yesterday, but I think I have an answer! It's the Ouggom from Xhan Empire. It's a phase cruiser and it's OP, but not invincible, point-and-delete OP like Ziggy.

It's a little lighter than Doom--slightly less armour/hull, slightly faster. I don't totally understand the ship system yet: it magnetizes enemy hulls, which seems to suck other ships & fighters (but not missiles?) into them. Looks cool! Sometimes does damage!

Has a large synergy and three medium hybrid/universal slots, so it can mount a fraction of the classic Zigg loadout, tach lance + heavy needlers, which was already nuts before phase anchor.

Oh, and it's 30 DP, so you can also have an Afflictor in your fleet for variety and pursuit without diluting the phase skill bonuses.

Needs friends for PD and safe venting, player must pay SOME attention while piloting--and so far that's enough challenge to keep me engaged. I dunno, I like being strong and flying phase ships.

You can also do it by killing any patrol who sees you. That's what I usually wind up doing as a form of ragequitting the sneaking game.
