P.S. I can't believe no one's made a mod for this. I'd probably do it if I wasn't busy with my other one (it'll come out eventually, I swear!)

In starsector it can become a fighter/frigate/destroyer only oriented faction, which has natural bonuses against another faction, which mostly consists of monstrous ships of destroyer-capital size with bullet-hell-like weapons.

I'm still not sure yet, though. Also, I'm 90% certain Starsector's very own Talon was based off Tyrian's Talon USP; it has similar wings and is brownish. It's also armed with a vulcan cannon, a weapon from the game (granted, that's also a common weapon type in games).

Sadly I never played Tyrian or had any exposue to it. The Talon just has wings that look OK at a small size in a small square sprite and is meant to look old, hence the brown ;)

Is there any chance the Hound was based off the Sun Dog from Sun Dog: Frozen Legacy? Arguably the first ever game of this type, well predating Escape Velocity or Transcendence. All my Hounds are named Sun Dog One, Two, and so on in commemoration.

Ummm. Sorry. It was more "make something old and janky", kinda like Firefly's Serenity. But boxier, I suppose. (Honestly I think the Serenity is a bit awkward looking -- The Hound is my version that's more straightforward and practical. Everything is pretty much it's own part jammed together: the thrusters, the cargo hold, the weapon hardpoint, and the cockpit/living section.)
