This is a list of threads that stay useful over time but don't get enough activity to stay up front (and don't exactly warrant a sticky). Feel free to suggest other threads that belong on the list.

Here is a thread that compiles answers Alex has given about game mechanics (the way armor works etc.): http://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=3105.0

Very good, I was actually looking for that thread but could not find it :)

I fear that the CR/supply usage thread is not up-to-date with the current version. That, or I have not seen a table/spreadsheet containing this version's data linked from here.

Yeah, I need to get around to actually updating it.
Eventually.

I have all the time to wait. Not so sure about the others. Besides, there's updates here and there.
On the other hand, the new players who are more statistically keen than I may sing the song we may already have heard before. I focused on particular stats that I use on fleet planning, just to help you see my level of statistical observance. (balance of supply capacity/expense, CR recovery rate, and burn speed)

we really need an unofficial codex. I myself haven't tried any of the 'compilation' mods. I just don't have the time to test each one individually. It would be nice if i could go "i wonder if someone's made a kinetic, small, regenerating missile?" and have a list of weapons from all the compilation mods so i can slowly tailor the game the way i want.
is there an official codex?
-
The game has a codex, which helpfully shows information about every mod currently loaded. Setting one up, maintaining it, keeping it up to date (just with the base game, let alone the meta-universe of all current mods) would be a gigantic labor for dubious value, since you can simply load up all the mods you think are good and interesting and open the game codex.
If you want it to exist, and you're willing to maintain it, though, feel free to set something like that up. You could start by revamping the wiki here (http://starsector.wikia.com/wiki/Starsector_Wiki).

thanks, i didn't realize any compilation mod puts entries in the vanilla codex. As for the metagame idea, i think i might just do something like that.

If there's a thread where someone explains the various settings in settings.json, I haven't been able to find it and would love to read it. If you know of one, please link it?
