Title: Huske System: Challenges and Roleplay
Post by: Uomoz on September 01, 2012, 02:00:56 AM
Roleplay topic for Huske System's players.

I will ask moderators to delete any non-RP post.

Challenges should at least be 1 sentence long and have some sort of RP flavor.

Any public player interaction should be channeled through here.

While exploring a dense nebula cloud the 42nd encounter a group of independent ships bearing the markings of Thaago's Thunderheads.
Clearly too afraid to engage anyone's fleet this cycle they've resorted to cowering where most wouldn't think to look.

Despite the 42nd's crew urging their Admiral to engage the cowards, executive protocols prevent it.
The fleet has no choice but to turn away and plot a course out of the nebula; though as a parting gesture they use their manoeuvring thrusters to create a circular plume of exhaust - commonly known as a 'moony'.

This is for turn 3  ;D
arcibalde challenge DM818

After second victory, Longbeard give his battle-worn crew long wanted celebration. After a hard day of drinking, singing and fist-fighting crew was ready once again to face unknown perils of hard, cold, unforgiving space. Not long after their next target appear onscreen. Dragos' Dragons Fleet entered his carefully planed trap. Now they have to fight for survivor with cold blooded killer.

Independent Protector's Mobile Fleet will engage(challange) Divine Searchers.

Log#2 from Felix "Great new! I've received a message from my younger brother, Nepal Delfare. He said he has herd of my victories as the first fleet defender. Just as I was going to write a thank you, an incoming fleet was appearing too close to the fleet. Going to engage."

Captian Nettle: "Sir, are you sure you want to engange? They show no sign's of hostile intent."

Admiral Felix: "Nonsense! Send the fleet to dispatch them!"

Captian Nettle: "Ok..."

Keep your challenges for THIS round only.  When the next one starts, then you can challenge.  it's getting a bit confusing.

Anyways:
It seems as if something is up between John Fletchett and Alrenous Thaago.  At a bar in Candrilla Station near Planet Hezimo, they seemed to be chatting casually.  A short time later, they shook hands and departed.  Soemthing up?

Arcions, I challenge you!  Seems as if your petty threats won't stand up to the firepower of a combined fleet, eh?

Battle Report
SV1 Has been decimated; upon arrival in Huske, the Arcion Pirates were tracked down and engaged; SV1 was quickly brushed aside by the enemy Sunder - soon after SV1 was engaged by an Enforcer class vessel under IPMF command with surprisingly similar results.

Both these battles were lost, they should have been much closer to victory than they were, especially with our competent (regular)crew, However, It seems that not only are our computer systems (AI) performing far below expected levels, failing to use the appropriate manuevers, but weaponry is also an issue - even without the recent downgrade(shield nerf) to our shield systems we would have been hard pressed to withstand the unexpectedly popular needler weapons in this sector with such weak hulls. On our side the inefficient use of Annihilator rockets and short range of energy weapons is more detrimental than initial calculations indicated.

Not only are we ineffective against enemy fleets alone, we are also subject to assault by any number of enterprising mercenaries - and our reason for being so poorly armed is now moot, as the Hegemony has issued a sector wide bulletin for our termination, Not the warmest reception.

Thankfully, it seems the hegemony has some enemies to hinder them in contested space - the Exar 4th Outreach fleet, a group seeking to curtail Hegemony expansion; joining may offer some protection against groups seeking easy pickings like SV1, and considering their own history in Huske, they are likely to accept the numbers.

As for our individual effectiveness, any changes(Skip/refit or no change+fleet action participation) will have to wait pending Exar Fleets Response to our request.

High command has determined that the presence of powerful mercenary groups in the Huske system is unacceptable.
Admiral Adams has been directed to eradicate this threat by any & all means necessary.

To this end, the 42nd fleet issues a challenge to the Blackwing Mercs.

"Buckle up lads, this is gonna be a rough one!"

“This is Admiral Johnson. A few hours ago our sensors detected a hostile fleet following the vessels under my command, and while it is possible that we could out run them, to do so would place the rest of my fleet at risk. They’ve already begun shutting down main systems, and will be out of operation for at least a full day. In the event of my demise, I would like to recommend Tomas “Calamity” Joan as my replacement. It would put me at ease to know that the lives of my men are in capable hands."

"XO, set an intercept course for Flechett's raiders. Move in to engage at 80 percent impulse."

"80, aye!"

Gunne's heart was pounding as the fleet made its approach. This will be an interesting battle....

what? what?

Get me ECCM!!! How the **** did those independents get on our channel?
"It's been two hundred years since the fall and no one seems to have put much research into securing Comm Relays and Nav Buoys themselves from takeover, just a few encryption sequences to protect messages and the occasional video feed; This can result in problematic situations, since even a single Luddi fighter can take a Relay over if it's unguarded, and their isn't much anyone can do about it.

It seems Dominion design engineers had some strange ideas about property law, free communications, or some such agenda that may have been written in Dominion law - the Data chips we had to study were a bit corrupted. A shame, considering what one could do with these relays and buoys if we knew how they worked.

As it stands, since these communication relics can so easily integrate and enhance any Dominion ship, it's not such a far leap to think that long range ship communications can be picked up and possibly decrypted by said Luddi fighter, sitting on a Relay, picking up all kinds of chatter."

edit: the above is a possible in-universe explanation offered by Capt. Gotoh in response to a question by Exar Admiral Gunne on an 'open channel', now in quotes for clarification

From mighty Sunder's bridge Admiral Longbeard silently watched enemy's wracked fleets. Admirals Fletchett and Thaago run away like scared kittens. Crew was thrill, they win against 2 enemy fleets.
*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP*
And that sound bring Longbeard from unconsciousness.
Alarm went off as Sunder's bridge collapsed. Admiral Arcibalde barely managed to escape thru last opened door before whole bridge was sealed off. His fleet was scattered and destroyed. What is left find salvation in dense asteroid field.

Fletchett leaned back in the command room of his frigate.  Pipes were leaking oxygen, CO2, and a multitude of other bad substances.  Hopefully they'd make it to a station before they were killed.

"JOHNSON!" He shouted, "bring me a link to High Command.  And get my wallet from my quarters."

Robiginosus Situla was excited. He had the funds, he had acquired a few spaceport berths, and he had plenty of potential customers if the local news was any judge. All he needed was some ships to sell. So he ordered a space in the local classifieds.

"Robiginosus Used Starships invites YOU to our GRAND OPENING! We offer the best prices for your trade-ins, guaranteed - up to 75% of the original price! If you are tired of that old clunker Onslaught or just can't get the right loadout on your Hyperion, don't worry about it! You're not stuck with it forever, so just sell it to us. We currently have limited funds, so if you wish to sell us a ship now, please send us a private message."

Faction name: Robiginosus Used Starships

Fleet name: Robiginosus Hulls

Admiral name: Robiginosus Situla

John Fletchett watched the Pirate broken fleet limp away into the distance.  Their expensive ships had turned out to be in his favor, though it was a tough battle.

Against all odds, A.A. (Admiral Adams) and his 42nd emerged victorious! Twice!!

However the cost has been high; his Elite crew aboard the Enforcer class destroyer "Pain Full" are riotous; demanding a fair share of the huge salvage earnings from the numerous Blackwing & Protector wrecks.

A.A.: "Lads, lads, lads we're enlightened explorers! not some rag tag band of pirates!"
A.A.: "We fight for knowledge, for freedom! for justice!"
Crew: "for loot!"
A.A.: *I think I need a new crew*

So; anyone want a battle hardened (and slightly loot crazed) band of elite destroyer crew?
They almost single-handedly defeated both the Blackwing Mercs & Independent Protector's.

Will accept best offer above 4500 creds. (market value = 20*300 = 6000 creds)

A few minute later, a shadowy figure escorted by Johnson emerged from the doorway.  Fletchett thumbed the plan.  The man looked it over, and nodded to Fletchett.

Fletchett sat in the command center of his HSS Red Horizon, sipping coffee and watching the remains of a battered and defeated pirate armada limp away.  His fleet was nearly unscathed, except for the occasional hull breach, there were no casualties.

The shadowy figue of Alrenous Thaago emerged from behind the monitor.  Fletchett handed his share of the profit to him via a snall chip.  Alrenous Thaago took the chip and curtly shook hands with Fletchett.  He walked out the door without a sound and headed back to his flagship.

Once safely inside his cabin, he did a quick sweep for bugs, then deposited the 20k credits into his account. And then he did his happy dance (its like a very enthusiastic cross between disco and the chicken dance).

Everybody call him Duke. Just Duke. His "real" name was, lost or known only to him. Stone hearted mercenary, that is Duke, self employed or for whoever pays most. No friends, no love-ones, no family tie's, no commitment to any fraction, no compassion, nothing that could stand between him and money. Man with no regrets, that is and always will be Duke.

*Fraction [EXAR]* - blinked on screen.
-Fleet.- asked Duke.
*[EOR-04, Gunne's Squadron]* - lit on screen
-Gunnes...- mumbled admiral. He watched fleet name and feel strange. *Why* he ask himself. That name was, it was, something... Important...
-It's Admiral Francis Gunne... - he finished sentence with an expression of disgust on his face.
-Engage EXAR Fleet NOW!!! - shouted Admiral Duke.
He remembered.

Attention, inhabitants of the Huske System!  This is High Admiral Davian MacNaile of SQUIG Industries' Human Resources Motivational Flotilla.  Employee morale back at SQUIG is flagging, and the board of directors feels that the best way to motivate our underlings is by example -- in other words, by grinding the enemies of SQUIG Industries beneath our iron-shod boots.

This is nothing personal, it is simply the most economical business decision.  The shareholders would be absolutely FURIOUS if we cut into our profits by raising wages above 3 credits per week.

The dragons see their old nemesis the opposition attempting to trade and set forth to plunder their fleet.  Dragos' Dragons attack opposition.

That's Piracy. Are you ok with that?

SQUIG Industries certainly is not!  We enjoy grinding our enemies to dust more than anything else in the galaxy, but there is no sport in attacking merchant vessels.  If you continue with this course of action, know that the counterattack from SQUIG Industries will be swift and brutal.

Having sent out a distress call over many hours ago, Avery was fearing the worst as two fleets were seen to be bearing down on his vector, in attack formation.
Then, a pop-up appeared on his monitor. A rare, sub-standard half-smile appeared in the side of his mouth for a second before he ordered the fleet into defensive formation.
"Have no fear boys! Help is on the way!"
Muttering under his breath "Late, as usual"

Crew deserve day off. Two hard victories took toll on them. Moral was high but their bodies needed rest, off switch, for a day. He sit in dimly lit quarters slowly sip hot tea. That was strong tea, strong enough that nobody from crews didn't want to taste it one more time. And every greeny that come along goes thru initiation phase: drinking whole pot of Admiral tea. And nobody didn't finish their pot.
Duke watched stars, endless shimmering lights in distant void. Honor was, for him, weakness and he didn't have any. It was strange, he didn know why he felt such urge to...

Again he watched countless lights of space. He know, he must do it.
Not for pride.
Not for vengeance.
Not for bounds.
He felt...
Urge...

SV1 engages in friendly war games with the 16th Storm Wing

edit: Challenge redacted before official acceptance, TBEs challenge now supersedes, SV1 challenge token free to possibly defend aid allies

"As SV1 was about to engage in field tests with the 16th Storm Wing, a hostile signature bleeped on the ships sensor - the Independent To Be Exploded fleet; Taking into account the success of the 16th Storm Wing against TBE, SV1 pulled away to let the 16th take on TBE and keep the loot it gains, noting to schedule war games for a later time...again; Soon after a message came in that new ally SQUIG Industries may require assistance in the near future, and so now SV1 waits."

edit: As Uomoz is likely to skim through these last couple of posts to pick up challenges, no sense in a new post; SV1 charges at the Hegemony DotF...again.

Davian MacNaile smiled as he sat in his Lasher's cramped command bridge and reviewed the battle results.  This was his fleet's first battle in Huske space, and every crewman had done their jobs admirably.  The crew of the Fenris II in particular surprised him -- while the B.M.M.D. was manned by MacNaile and SQUIG Industries' most experienced pilots, the Wolf-class frigate was staffed by interns and pencil-pushers.  Sure, they were trained extensively in simulator combat, but none of them had ever been in a real battle before this day.  Yet they had taken on two enemy vessels simultaneously and emerged unscathed, handling their ship with the confidence of veterans.  Field promotions were most certainly in order.

As he leaned back and sipped his coffee, an electronic voice burst into life in the command bridge:

"Admiral, you have... ONE... new message."

MacNaile furrowed his brow in puzzlement.  Who could possibly want to talk to him?  The Board didn't need a status report until the end of this week, so it most certainly wasn't them.  They weren't the kind of people who checked in on their employees very often -- for all he knew, they didn't expect him to live through the week.

As he pulled the message onto the screen, his confusion turned to genuine interest.  The message was an request of allegiance from one Thyrn Gotoh, commander of the Stellar Vehicles and former member of the Exar fleet.  An alliance would do much to bolster SQUIG Industries' strength in the sector, and the company was always looking for more recruits and business partners.

MacNaile accepted this offer, and his smile widened into a full grin.  Maybe this mission wouldn't be so suicidal after all.

SQUIG Industries challenges Iron's Strikers to combat.  R&D wants to asses the prowess of this new admiral, and a good old-fashioned live-fire weapons test is the best way to do this.  It's nothing personal -- just business.

Drago's Dragons put up a good fight the last time they met the HR Fleet in battle -- if they choose to test themselves against the might of SQUIG Industries once again, we will gladly meet their challenge.

Admiral MacNaile wiped the sweat from his brow as his Lasher emerged from the far side of an  asteroid field. To his relief, his scanners showed no sign of Iron's sole surviving vessel. That was a close battle if he'd ever seen one. General Broadcast
-----------------
In light of SQUIG Industries withdrawal from Huske, disbanding of the CSP-SQUIG alliance, and a humiliating defeat at the hands of LADS, the CSP repeats its requests for financial loans; the threat posed by Lads is too great to handle alone, and without significant support SV1 will be forced to temporarily retreat (read: Continuously Skip)as to avoid feeding Admiral Dukes Fleet with our losses(as SV1 holds the second third largest fleet value next to Thaago's Thunderheads; even so without support chances are Lads is going to continue to grow, eventually outpacing all fleets, unless a concentrated effort to increase overall fleet power is made[one such effort being CSPs proposed Trade Fleet]).

Currently, Lads fleet sports:
5x Lashers with light needlers
1x Omen
and 24,000 credits
considering previous Lads spending habits, it is now 10x Lashers with light needlers, though it maybe something else.
