I've noticed in playing around that the plasma cannon's projectile dies out before it can even leave my screen (1080p) yet it is supposed to have a range of 700, and when looking at the range markers on the display, the projectile is clearly not reaching them by the time it dies.
ok, apparenlty this is not a bug

Well, 700 isnt that far..
The Anti Matter Blaster i used in my Conquest (the video yesterday ^^) has a Range of 1000 and it dies within the screen too..
The projectile at 1000 moves ~2/3 of my screen while playing at windowed mode with 1680*1050.
So i would guess the range of the projectile is correct but not the marker mhm.....

Actually I've seen this and know (kind of) what is happening. I thought this was a bug at first too, but...
The longer you charge the plasma cannon, the more damage it does (I can only assume) but the range grows shorter. If you rapidly fire the cannon, the projectiles fly the full length of the marker.

After some experimenting however I have found that the autofire AI does not handle the plasma cannon well, in that it will try to use the cannon fully charged at a range greater than the fully charged projectile supports.

Yeah, there's a reason none of the used ship loadouts include it ;)
