Have been experimenting with the Buffalo MK-II after the introduction of the Shield generator hullmod, and i actually found a build that is quite useful.

This build can take down other Buffalos and Hounds, and serves as great fire support at the back of my lines. Very useful early game if you capture one for free.
Anyone else have any functioning builds?
EDIT:
The AI wins vs all of these ships, making it a quite useful addition to any fleet.
- Hound
- Standard Lasher
- Brawler
- Shade
- Afflictor
- Buffalo MK-2
- Talon Wing
- Piranha Wing
Also, i made a new build that is slightly more optimised vs enemies with EMP capabileties. (Salamanders, Ion cannons, EMP Emittors)

Nice name you actually got there :)
-
Lol yeah, diddnt think anyone would notice.
-
I do want to see the basic buffalo mk 2's reinforced bulkheads replaced with a frontal shield generator, as it seems certainly like a good idea to me. It's not like the reinforced bulkheads help, but they just make them last a bit longer in fire. And honestly, it doesn't help them.

This thing can make a nice dirt cheap anti fighter/light frigate escort for your condor or tarsus.

Oh, i have to try that.

Just tested it out, managed to take out 3 talon wings and a piranha wing with the PD setup, it doesn't do too well against shielded frigates since it doesn't have many weapons with punch.

Try putting a proximity charge thing on it. It'll own the fighters, AND it can hurt stuff
-
I'm not sure what a 'proximity charge thing' is or where to get one during campaign.

Previously known as the "Phase Charge Launcher"
-
I hadn't really used that at all, can the AI use it capably? The PD Buffalo I set up was meant to be a competent escort in AI hands.
-
Phase Charge Launcher was uber-OP before patch, I'm curious how it works out now. It's probably still a very powerful weapon against fighters, so definitely worth checking out.

I actually feel like it is better now, especially on the Mk-II, as it can still murder an entire fighter wing in 1 shot.
It kinda feels like a powerful bomblauncher now, and i love it.

x2 IR Pulse Lasers, x3 Harpoons, x2 Light Assault Guns, Frontal Shield Generator, Extended Shields, rest to capacitors or vents. Very good, really.
-
even the default buffalo is pretty scary in groups now with the rapid missile re loader. i skimmed in with my starting wolf to 2 buffaloes sitting behind some fighters and within seconds my screen was literally filled with missiles it scared the crap out of me and i skimmed my arse right out of there as fast as i could. admittedly most of the missiles were salamanders but they can still pack a punch if they get through your shields and well that was a lot of salamanders.
-
I've ditched some of the weaponry (2 of the light missiles) in favor of frontal+omni shield hullmods, and that buffalo has actually managed to make it through since early game (it was the first ship I captured), still managing to make itself useful in an indirect fire role.
-
Ah, I love how you can add shields shields now. Absolutely the best addition for the Buffalo.
-
The great thing is, that as a lasher I still have to be careful not to vent-the am blaster and/ or pilums are never fun to catch. I've actually lost my ship thanks to a Buffalo, first time ever :).
-
I find it disturbing that my Buffalo build from the OP can beat both of the Phase frigates.
-
Yea. The Phase frigates are extremely weak versus the buffalo. The buffalo is terrible versus anything WITH shields, phase are too easy.
-
Here's a list of ships my Buffalo from the OP can win against 1v1. (The AI that is)
- Hound
- Standard Lasher
- Brawler
- Shade
- Afflictor
- Buffalo MK-2
- Talon Wing
- Piranha Wing
Thinking i might start using the Buffalo in my campaign o.O
-
- Talon Wing
- Piranha Wing
How does it fare against Broadswords and other fighters? I'm really curious about the build you're using, will try it out later once I get the time.

Let me try, brb.
EDIT:
Loses vs Broadswords and the Gladius because it keeps getting overloaded by their machineguns. I reckon it would win easily vs a Thunder as they dont have anything to harm shields.
I did change the build abit to make it better against salamander missiles, as those really killed it easely.

There you go, it has a little less dissipation for the ability to basically nullify salamanders.
-
Seems like that build can also beat the close lasher if it is lucky and avoids the harpoons. Weather it will beat the Brawler is a very close game, and is usually determined by random missiles.
-
And on another note, thanks to the AI that is much more liberal with missiles when near death, a stock Buffalo Mk2 can be quite a danger if you slowly whittle down its hull. When it reaches a certain point, it launches a barrage of missiles that can be deadly to a frigate without PD. Lost my Wolf to a pair of Buffalo Mk2s yesterday, sadly enough.
-
any one one know a good strike version kamikaze of course
-
I've tried 4 duel ato. torpedo w/ extend missile and eccm package, 12 guilded torpedoes that can take alittle pd before most to half hitting :)
