Title: [0.95.1a] Manic Miners
Post by: Great Wound on February 28, 2022, 01:46:17 PM
Manic Miners has now been merged in with Ludd and Lions, use the old link at your peril (or if you REALLY don't like ludd and lions).... (https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=23393.0)

Time for something new and tasty!

Adds a unique hullmod, ship and fighter to the game.
Converts Mining Laser/Blaster to Hybrid mount type because low tech should have access to basic mining equipment.
Adds a Micro Mining Blaster, Mining Array, Heavy Mining Laser and Hammer Torpedo Pod,

On the more technical side the hullmod will work with modded weapons provided they meet the specified requirements.

are there any plans to make a large slot mining blaster, I need a mining onslaught

None at the moment.

I figured mining "weapons" would typically be small-medium scale. Hammers would be used to crack tougher nuts. Using a large blaster to break apart planetoids to get to the gooey-goodness within wouldn't be feasible. Hammers are cheap and if you need to blast apart a lot of them of asteroids in a short period of time (i.e. between supply runs) you're likely to create a hazardous debris field which would hamper your own operations.

There's nothing stopping you creating your own (Super) heavy mining blaster. As long as it includes the word "mining" in the name or ID it will benefit from Manic Miners.

Interesting idea, I'll give it a go. I like that you have the Short in your image, warms my heart :)

FYI, JYD has 2 large slot mining weapons the Long Range Asteroid Blaster for ballistic and the Ion Burst Emitter for energy. Just a shameless self plug :)

Damn it! And I just added one to appease him!

Two changes I'd make:

Oh, and perhaps rename Mining Array to Mining Laser Array, add Mining Blaster Array and Heavy Mining Blaster so we have a full family of beam and hard flux to chose from :)

Mining Array renamed to Mining Laser Array. I've also added a Micro Mining Blaster for the next version:

Low-tech now has all it's bases covered:

Beam: Small - Mining Laser / Medium - Mining Laser Array / Large - Heavy Mining Laser
Projectile: Small - Micro Mining Blaster / Medium - Mining Blaster / Large - Mjolnir Cannon (I can't picture the Hegemony permitting a mining blaster capable of cracking a battleship!)

Two changes I'd make:

  • Increases armor by 1/2/3% based on mount size instead of flat 5%.
  • With increased mount size, flux efficiency should decrease (and alpha strike increase).

The original concept was for Miners strike to reduce the flux cost of blasters and give mining lasers hard flux. I think this may be beyond my code mashing skills though.[/list]

Looking over the mod files the answer is currently no, it lacks the mining_weapons.csv file needed for that to work it's relatively easy to add even on a personal level, just grab the file from Nexerelin/data/config/exerrelin, copy it and drop it in data/config/exerrelin file structure (create it if needed) and then drop the weapon ID and how strong you think it should be in.

those ships in the first image...
are we going to ignore the elephant in the room...

that aside though, it's nice to see more mining-focused content

Yes. I know they are tankers and not mining vessels but I created them on a whim and liked how they turned out and wanted to keep them. I was tempted to add them to the KoC (https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=23393.0) but that just wouldn't work being as they already have a tanker.

Nice mod, keep up the good work :-). The name of the mod reminds me of old games I used to play growing up. Hmm, wonder if their rivals are the crystal cavers.

Are you going to make the mining weapons compatible with Nex mining?

There's a few other gems if you look a little deeper...

Are you going to make the mining weapons compatible with Nex mining?

No plans at the moment even though it's a low hanging fruit. If you want to put together the .csv and send it to me I have no problems adding it in.

I have no modding experience so I can't help you with that, I hope you add it at some point because I would love to do a mining playthrough and your mod sounds perfect for that.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ICpSUq7N0fnVMDM37xdRRU2rCdLs16nQ/view?usp=sharing I put one together for you since I also have a similar interest in mining weapons for use in Nex. I just used 0.75 per OP for small weapons, 0.875 per OP for Medium and 1 per OP for large.

Any chance of this getting a .96 update since Of Lions and Ludd is now deprecated with .96?
