Hi, what is actually the best, or just good escort for a cruiser
I would fly the cruiser and would like to ignore rockets and fighters for myself.
Is 2x centurion with officer and tactical laser good enough?
-
Omen is the perfect flagship escort. EMP emitter murders missiles/fighters incredibly well and helps you in fights with bigger ships. It's also very durable for its size thanks to the efficient shield.
-
Omen with officer with systems is real missile and fighter killer.
-
ok I think I got one
and what kind of officer?
I have reckless on my Omen and he act also sometimes a bit ....suizidal xD
-
I usually put Steady or Cautious officers in Omens, if the point is using the ship for PD and anti-fighter duty you don't want it running into weapons range of anything else. As long as it stays near the ship you tell it to escort and it targets missiles and fighters that come in range that's all you need it to do :)
Edit: You may even consider replacing it's PD lasers with Tactical Lasers and an Integrated Point Defense AI so it can target missiles from much farther away.
-
somehow the escort does not work
they are alwas somewhere, but not tanking my ship from rockets/fighters
I've tried both 2x centurion and 2x omens
-
Are they faster than your ship?
-
Escorts are leashed to the player ship, preferring the flanks and rear (and if it drifts in front the reaction from people is highly negative). I suggest using an aggressive officer (or maybe even reckless) in a anti-missile escort, because it will slide forward along the flank to engage targets in that region. Something like an Omen's arcs or a centurion's lrpd could then be shooting down targets in the forward arc.

If ordinance is coming on your front, that's your job, not your escort's. You do still need to equip some PD on your own ship.
Escorts primarily make sure that you don't get flanked - they WILL engage things if it's closer to them.
-
Shields usually cover the front and only take 50% damage from high explosives. So save OP by only putting it where the shields won't be! ;D
Or bring an arse defender and go commando with no PD whatsoever. 8)

I'm just testing this out before reading this thread.
I got an omen and centurion. They seemed like they'd make great escorts. I'm also using a mora for flagship. In simulation against the capital carrier, the seven slotted one, those nine rockets never seem to be hindered by the escorts. It's a bad scenario obviously and would need to be disengaged from battle asap, but I'd like to see the centurion trail behind the mora in retreat and soak up rockets with damper. The omen uses up its shock on the kinetic missiles fired from the carrier and rarely gets nearer to the tracking rockets to zap those. In retreat it might neutralize more of them.

I think thats the problem
maybe I should try xiphos, if I remember correctly they were tanking the front
and escort are escorting my engines
