Eh. Not a fan of how the backlighting doesn't fit with existing portraits, but I suppose that's the problem with using existing assets instead of custom-making something. While I agree that it'd be ideal to have vanilla-styled portraits, it'd be a ton of work (and require actual art skills, of which I have relatively little) to adjust the lighting. Regardless, this was never really intended to be immersive.
Wow I wonder who's that handsome lad to the rightHmm, what a mystery.
Honestly, I was looking for portrait packs the day before this released, and thought "This game has been out forever, I'm surprised there isn't a furry/pony portrait pack." I mean we got anime and cybermodding, biomodification and perhaps even xenos aren't far off. Are furries considered blasphemous by the Luddic Church/Path?There have been a few, but they have been... let's say less than suitable for posting here on the forums. Plus most of the ones I knew were just cropped shots of art and pretty much never had the artist's or character owner's permission. (Which is a problem with many portrait packs) This pack is good to post here because it is SFW AND it has the permission of everyone involved
Perhaps it's fate, and perhaps, If you do think this heresy, you can erase the files that make them show up in your preferred factions, and have your own little crusade.
How well do these fit the aesthetic? Kinda did them in a rush so I'm not too sure if I missed anything. Eh, now that I'm looking at it the backlighting's probably too strong. Oh well.Imo they're really great. For something done in a rush they're pretty darn good - I'd only recommend making them a little darker. The backlights look very solid tho
My personal opinion, it's the vanilla style that doesn't fit. I'd rather replace or remove every single vanilla portrait than have mods trying to follow that awful artstyle. Even this pack, heretical as it is, is preferable to that.Eh. I'm trying to actually follow the rules with this one.

Kill the heretics! Purge the unclean! Only when they are not but ash and cinders will the emperor forgive them! D:<Can we maybe chill with the "exterminate the furries" rhetoric? I don't think anyone minds what you do in your own game, but since some people here are furries, it's... uncomfortable, at best.

Nah, I feel like the blue text is enough to keep things sane. Up to your discretion, of course.
@theDragn Want me to clean up the thread?
Of all the portrait packs I've felt compelled to comment on, since I don't use portrait packs, this is the only one that's attempted to get permission to use the art it's adding to the game, and it's not adding anything to factions without asking - that's a couple steps above the baseline as far as good citizenship goes around here. The furry community is particularly rabid (heh) about proper use- art theft is a very serious thing there. Definitely didn't want to get crucified over it.

@RemnantAI
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here that you were 'memeing' instead of being serious, but please don't post things hostile to other users like that.
@Legion499
Same, none of that now please. Leave homophobia and other such things off these forums.

~~ Alert ~~We already had 1 "role player" pull crap earlier, we don't need another, didnt need to make an account just for that ???
Your current location has been targeted for a saturation bombardment by hegemony High Admiral Jacks.

Seriously, have you ever seen the replies to Alex's twitter posts? Furries everywhere.
This mod adds 35 furry (and scalie) portraits to vanilla factions. A few are AI-generated, but most are sourced from members of the Starsector community.
Wait, what? Can you randomly generate portraits from AI-assisted programs or tools?

I uh, I'm kinda new here and don't know the rules about external links but yeah.Yep, this is what I used for the first 10 or so portraits. It usually takes a lot of tweaking (or searching) to find something that you can use directly, and they're all kind of vague dog-cat-fox things, but it was good enough to get an initial batch of portraits.
I use this thing: https://thisfursonadoesnotexist.com/ , primarily to make NPC portraits for my genesys games.
There's a drop down menu to make My Little Ponies, and it has parameters for the AI algorithms, you can make some pretty cursed stuff.

Hey Dragn, just giving you a shoutout and a thanks for doing this the RIGHT way with permission! And the art is good too!
Updated to 1.3.finally! kept me waiting huh?
- Added faction config for Exalted (https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=19036.0)and Keruvim (https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=20513.0), provided by connortron7
finally! kept me waiting huh?Yeah, sorry about that, totally forgot to include them in the previous patch. Better late than never, I suppose.

Any way to get a photo in without discord? You can pm me here or message me on telegram (@theDragn).
I don't use discord at all and was just wondering if there was an alternate way.
It's truly jarring to see these in the wild. Is there any way to make them player-only?Go to data/world/factions. In it is a bunch of files labeled with a faction that tell that faction what portraits it can use. Deleting every faction but player.faction will stop every other faction from using those portraits. I think deleting player.faction stop you from using those portraits as your character. Pretty sure if you start a colony you'll start seeing the portraits pop up in the wild, but it will stop everything else.
Holly *** is that darbo, lmaoooNot anymore.
It's truly jarring to see these in the wild. Is there any way to make them player-only?Yes, just delete everything in the mod's /data/world/factions/ folder except for player.faction
Hi! Half of these I love, half I don't. I'm picky, please don't judge me lol. Is there any way to easily remove certain portraits or prevent them from showing up? I thought "why not just delete the ones I don't like" but then that seems like it'd cause problems having an open ended thing like that. Like what happens when Hegemony Officer A goes to get furry pack female 11 and there's nothing there? Just didn't seem smart so I figured I'd ask first.
it's easiest to copy a vanilla portrait and rename it to the one you're replacing
Every day we stray further from god.
Downloaded, have an amazing day!God speed gamer, god speed.
I'm going to love starting tac bombardments with a furry portrait.
Every day we stray further from god.
On topic though, I remember this being a hidden meme spread around in Discord DMs years ago, it's nice to see it become public, now. Unless this is a different furry portrait pack, I remember one consisting mostly of headshots cropped from furry art, not all of it SFW.
Hey...so dumb idea...but maybe when you reach at least 100 portraits, you could add a sub-mod that allows the player to set the % chance that a character is one of the furry portraits you added? I know some people, myself included, are a bit annoyed when we enter a port and see all but one of the primary characters are human. Not sure how you'd set it...but if that idea is at all feasible maybe it'd be a nice addition

Finally got around to updating. Something like 95 portraits now.
I was hopin for a tutorial to change the default vanilla humans to only display custom portraits, even to there being many duplicates, but how would I go about doing that? I get crashes when deleting the original portraits.
You would need to replace existing portraits with the ones included in the mod, making sure that you kept filenames and folder structure the same as the portraits you want to replace. You can do this either in the mod (mod files override vanilla ones if there is a name conflict) and delete all the .faction files (since you'd have renamed the files they reference), or by directly replacing the portraits in your core starsector installation.Oh yeah, that seems intuitive. I really want to try out the CoH2 portrait pack. I like the rugged aesthetic of drawn realism. So, I'd just have to replace each vanilla portrait with a Command portrait, including duplicating them so I can cover all the numerous vanilla portraits which outnumber the CoH2 pack?
Also, that was probably the wrong wording, XD but I was asking if you would later do exclusive furry races for each faction? Most would be diverse, I'm sure, Hegemony obviously, but I like the idea that Ludd could be mostly governed by mice with a smattering of diversity, and Tri-Tach are mostly snakes, for instance.
Also, like, today. Portrait packs use some of the simplest implementation in the entire game, utilizing formatting that hasn't changed for essentially a decade. The pack will work just fine in .96.
I know it's a furry portrait pack, but that's not an excuse to act like you lived your entire life in a zoo.
Maybe ask politely, and learn what "patience" means?
WHEN?
New version, new portraits. Removed AI-generated portraits due to both the plethora of community-provided portraits and a desire to support actual artists. Should be save-compatible, though removed portraits will show as a black square. Did some minor readjustment of factions to even out the portraits per faction. As always, you can download it from the first post.
Unfathomably based. Machine-gen'd art was the only misgiving I had about this pack after being exposed to how awful that sort of thing has been for artists. Makes me happy to see this change.
Ooooo, Are there wickerbeasts in this pack?I don't know what those are, so I would guess the answer is no, but I haven't been asking what species portraits are either. You could probably download it and go through the files to find out.
I had a portrait I wanted to submit to the pack but when I tried to find you on discord while I could find you through past messages on the server when I tried to DM you directly it failed, I'm assuming it's because we don't have mutual servers as you don't appear to be in that discord anymore. If you are still accepting submissions for this I'd like to know where or how I could do that.
Edit: Made a pull request on github with the fix, hope that's allright :)Yep, thanks! Seems that GitHub changed how they link to raw files sometime recently.
