Title: Using my personal game key and not sseth's
Post by: Terran on November 29, 2020, 01:01:51 PM
about a month ago i watched Sseth's starsector video and used his key shortly after. A week later i bought my own key, uninstalled then reinstalled the game but its not asking for my key. Iv even deleted the installer and all saved data then redownloaded the installer but still nothing.

Is there a way i can fix this or am i good to keep using his?

In Windows the game key is stored in the registry in:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\fs\starfarer

If you delete the "serial" value then relaunch the game, it'll prompt for a new one at which point you can enter your personal key.

To edit the registry, start->"regedit".
Be careful though, you can do some serious damage to Windows if you go around deleting/changing the wrong stuff.

(Also, I'll note that you don't really need to do that for any practical reason; if the game ever needs another key it'll just ask for it.)
