Title: Halo: universe (Ideas)

Hi guys im new to this just got the game and all, and i was wondering whether it was just me or are there other people out there thinking about the ships from Halo?

For example human ships like :Piller of autumn which was a Halcyon class light cruiser
Or a covenant CCS-class battlecruiser
these are two of the biggest out of the series.
There are many types of fighters to choose from, like seraph fighters or longsword interceptors.

Ive got loads of ideas but nothing to really do with them.

Longsword bomber!  :D  The iconic escape ship from the first game. Man that ship was awesome.

Shortswords look cool, too. Never played Halo Wars, though.

Also I know that there are alot of 3d ship models on google sketch-up and you can probably find alot of good ships there (and I think google sketch up can take a 2d photo for you)

I can get the pictures and i know what most ships look like due to reading the books and such just about How do i make them into sprites?
And yea Longsword interceptor is one good fighter/bomber.
Hoping to get alot of help here this could become one good mod if it works out due to the shear amount of ships :P
Would love you see the MAC gun implemented.

I have managed to find two or three models i can put into Google sketch and make them into 2D
One is the Piller of Autumn.
and the UNSC fighter the Sabre.

Do you know how to mod (specifically make ships and path to their sprite) in general in this game?

(I don't know if it has to be but all of the ship graphics in this game are in ".png" format. The one above is use ready but needs to be cropped and rotated, I've done some of that now. I was going to do some dodging and burning and left some on the top for you to see what it will look like, compare to original. However since the ship is symetrical you may just want to copy and paste one side and use it for the other)

And have you thought about how you will orient the mac cannon

Thats awesome dude, im guessing you know some stuff about modding ships into this game then? mind helping me?

and well the MAC will have to have a very very far range aswell as being medium speed so if you are futher away then you could dodge it just like in the books, but damage wise, well a mac can pretty much kill a ship in one hit but this cant really be the case in this game unless you just give them one shot per fight?

what I need than to begin with is something like this

How large is it? I'm thinking of the following scale for the star wars mod myself.

under 200 or 300 meters = 1:1 meters/pixel
under 500 meters 1.5:1
everything else 2:1

And probably exclude anything over 2km long, or have an upper bound of 1000 pixels tall.

i.e. what scale you want the ships at and how big each ship is supposed to be (I would prefer if you would indicate the size as finding the exact lore isn't my forte). This could be changed in the future, according to feed back, but having a general idea of what you want would help.
The custom weapons, e.g. mines and MAC cannons, and placement of those weapons and balance will also need some doing
In addition I would want feed back on what I did and how it could be improved

So, if you could direct me to some of the cruisers and such along with their info I would be grateful. (I would rather not try the carrier as it may be too big to use in game. I can try using those ships you found on google-sketchup, though for now, as it is just testing time, I probably won't do any detailing - just going to get it working in-game.)

p.s. remember that the scaling will affect things such as speed (if a ship is 400 meters....), although the speed and range in the lore, I feel, will be used as guidelines for balance rather than just pure  how-it-will-be-in-the-game.

Now i know you cant really use the carrier, but focus on the Halcyon class cruiser. for the covenant use the covenant battlecruiser which is around the same size.

Halcyon calss ship has no shields but can take a tremendous about of pounding, where as the covenant have very very good shields but weak hulls, weak enough that one mac could possibly disable the ship completely.

Ive attached the two starter ships for good sketch.

On google sketch, search a guy called grave heart he has made many 3D models of halo ships.

I took the liberty of making a mod for the covenant carrier.
Although it is "technically" disgustingly overpowered (:P) I think it captures the idea of a covenant carrier quite well.

I was actually going to try and make a banshee fighter wing :P
If you have any suggestions (like what weapons to use on what[I kinda just threw a bunch of energy weapons on the cruiser :P]) I can try to make more covenant ships.

I can't really mod new weapons in so I will probably just use current weapons until I figure out how to make new ones.
Also, because I don't have photoshop (or really any professional art program) I can't really make sprites myself so if anyone wants to make (or link to) starfareresque looking Halo sprites please do! :D

Well if you want to give it  a shot I started doing the UNSC cruiser (using a perspective view, I can make a parallel sprite but it may look too flat) above and here is what I got if you are willing to do some bounding and such I can try to make more sprites
its at about 1:2.3 pixel/meter scale (by comparison your cov carrier is at at 1:5.2 pix/meter scale)

It's flipped upside-down. :P (The long rods are the space versions of the normal plasma repeaters)

I'm not quite sure, but I don't think the scale has to be especially rigid (or else the banshees would end up being ridiculously small [I think])

the game has a landing animation to explain why single-seat fighters so large in game

so then I guess it will be tiered sizes

(also for weapons that are underneath, or don't look good when shown, we should probably use the HIDDEN function for turrets)

That should be fine

I wouldn't really worry about making anything specific right now as this is just getting started. We should probably try and make new weapons for them (at least in terms of balance e.g. lorewise if a banshee dies in x number of shots from a broadsword the broadsword weapons has to be so strong..., and the same for mac cannons and such)

Btw the Ardent Prayer looks pretty good but I feel we will need some kind of expert spriter to touch up some of the other sprites and make them look real nice. (anyone? :D)

The sabre and longsword are both good top down views, and I already have the ccs.
Should the sabre and longsword both be frigates or the longsword be a bomber wing?
I can get to work on these possibly Sunday, but no earlier since I'm on a vacation :P.

Hey guys sorry for not posting in a very long time been rather busy, it seems alot has been done since i left to be honest, TheCornerbro i love that mission i just played it 5 times and it was great, the feeling of the lone covenant ship overpowering the small human fleet felt rather right really, keep up the good work its looking amazing.

Great mod Idea!

Just some idea's

Normal Marine sprites > Halo marines Sprites
Add new ships > All UNSC and Covernant Ships, also you could add Flood as a enemy like SPAZ (Maby add Forerunner ships as secret ships)

Mission Idea:
*Perhaps add a Halo ring in the backround for the mission*
You need to go in and investigate a SOS beacon, when your ships arrive outside of the ring, you see a group of (perhaps ally) UNSC/Covernant ships, around 3 to 6 fighters protecting a capital perhaps, being attacked by around 10 to 18 flood ships (any type, your choice) and if you sucseed at protecting the capital ship then you get 12000 credits.

Just a idea, not the best one though :P

You could add other missions too, I am really exited for the mod   :)

EDIT: With the mission, perhaps add a SP mission system where you go to a station and they tell you a mission descrioption and you can choose and stuff.
If not possible, just add it to the mission list (If you do decide to add it :P )

I used to mod Halo: Custom Edition back in the day so I rendered the Pillar of Autumn for you guys. If you really want them, I can get renders of the longsword, banshee, original covie dropship, and pelican. If you want to take this seriously take a look at www.halomaps.org (http://www.halomaps.org) and you will find alot of material. You will have to take their models and render them though. I just finished renders of all the other ships from halo custom edition. I made them large so they can be scaled to the desired size.

Although they do look nice (i will probably actually use the longsword) the renders generally look vastly different from in-game pics(which is what I've made 6 of the other ships with), also I already have a few of these.

Hermes-Class Light Carrier. Frigate Tonnage. (As seen from below, because it's more interesting and the flight bays are drop-style)

With my shiny new UNFBig and CFHOD programs, I'm tearing renders out of homeworld. And there's a halo mod in progress...so I'm borrowing some things.

Go over to ModDB and look up Halo:Homefront to see what they're doing. I think I'll just keep right on extractin' in the meantime. I'll maybe stat them later if you folks remain uncertain about it.

The whole idea about Halo universe ships came into my mind the second i thought about mods, so i searched about Halo, and found this thread. Last reply seems to be around 2 months old, but i want to believe that You guys keep working on this one. I created this forum account just that I can say that I'll be among the first persons to download the complete mod  ;)  I really hope and wish that this one gets done.

Also i got some mission ideas, witch vary from certain point defense to hunting a single ship

  Defense missions
"The Fall of reach" (Objective could be no different from other normal battle missions, be the last and eliminate the thread
"The defense of the Earth" (On this one, I've been thinking that the Orbital Defense Stations must survive)

  Attacking missions
"Halo" (Player must go from point A to point B, and there would be enemy ships in the way)
"Halo II: Delta Halo" ( Halo 2 story, where UNSC forces drop the ODST's to the second Halo ring. This mission could be about attacking the defending Covenant forces)
"Halo III: The Ark" (Halo 3 story, where humans and Covenants chase the Prophet of Truth to the Ark.)

It appears to be the Covenant have Omni shields and are heavily laser based. Combined nuclear weaponry firepower can take them down, but one covenant ship needed 13 other ships to die before it was defeated.

There is also a HUGE discrepancy between the power of covenant and UNSC ships.
107 UNSC vs 13 Covenant under Admiral Preston Cole, end result is victory at the loss of 37 warships.
Seventy left, 8 more covenant, ONI dubbed it a strategic victory despite the loss of 30 more ships.
Final battle, 'Battle of the Great Bear', seventeen ships (at least eleven destroyers) against three covenant, all three covenant killed with one crash landing with the loss of said eleven destroyers.

UNSC Spirit of Fire, the converted colony ship of Halo Wars fame, has a repair and refit bay capable of launching exoskeleton vehicles and up to 60 EVA engineers. MAC cannons accelerate depleted uranium slugs to a fraction of the speed of light, Archer missile pods, storage/auxiliary launch houses for scorpion tanks, warthogs, self assembling fusion reactors and other items that can be dropped planetside via pelican assist.
Unshielded covenant ships of small size die within one shot of the SoFs MAC. Havok nuclear missiles too.
They seem to be fairly large, ranging upwards of a few hundred metres (this is the Prophecy, BTW)

They do have stealth ships like the UNSC Last Gleaming.
