Feature
Faction

No one understood the rise of ApproLight which was so abrupt and unexpected. But Borken does--- They are ApproLight's shareholder, supporter and "enemy" that rivals and instigates them via proxy behind the scenes.

Great Old Gods dominated all that was, then Cthulasus Borken was born. Their birth into reality brought with them into the world beauty, peace and then chaos. After the death of the Old Gods', they carried on and into the infinite void of space. Eventually finding themselves in an unfamiliar place, the Persean Sector at the expanse of their precious treasure, Time.

If you meet them in your travels, fear not. Though their tentacles and alien appearance are unsettling Borken, as alien as they are you can trust are peace loving and shrewd traders.

The ships of the foundation are unlike those built by humans, employing short-lived phase cloaks and regenerative armor plating for defense.

Private Crystal Rift

A unique storage service offered by the Foundation, assuming you stay on their good side, allowing you to establish a network of connected transport facilities, giving you access to your Rift storage from across the sector at a fee.

Peaceful Evolution-Deleted Temporary-

A special mission. Assist the Foundation of Borken in analyzing the carbon-based life of this universe. Bring a battleship of the Foundation carrying Evolver container into battle with you. After combat, a certain percentage of its crew will merge with the Evolver container to become Evolver. Evolver container could be produced by Borken's freighters.

Mental Healer
Borken personality adjustment therapy can change the personality of an officer. Healers can be met at comm directory in Borken's market.

Great spritework, but I'm not sure I understand what's going on in the screenshots. Are they are regular faction or something you find while exploring?

Understandable. I was one-shoting the [redacted] battlestation with one of the loadouts I tested while having a very short cooldown, so it didn't fair using it
still amazing work, it's not often that I see such a flexible and fun active system

Love the style of these. They look fantastic! But there is a bit of vagueness regarding them, as a faction (unsure if it's intentional, or not). Do missions, such as scanning and trade, appear for them across systems? Can I join them? Are their ships available for purchase? What is the best way to gain favour with them?

Ignore that, I found out myself. You just have to get Neutral/Positive before you can access any of their planet functions.

One rather large issue, though. I can't reload any save where I have these ships in my possession. It claims the save is incompatible with current mods. Which is not true, for starters. None of them have changed, and I can reload the very first save I have, which has all of the same mods activated, (i.e. the very first save the game makes, at Jangala, after running the markets, etc.) without a warning showing at all. Why could this happen? Is it due to the mod being translated perhaps? Some invalid or foreign characters that the game can't recognise? I did notice that one of the Jump-Points is labeled as a bunch of ?s instead of a proper name.

This mod is great! I am also curious if you guys have a plan to add some boss ship into the IBB system. The idea of able to hunt down a God and take their ship would be really cool.
In addition, it seem that in PCR system you can't put crews in the PCR but you can put Agent, Saboteur and High value prisoner in there, which may be a bug?

So not to be a debby downer, but I think the freighters need a bit of a nerf.

I have 10+ different ship sets installed, and Foundation freighters generally surpass the very largest modded freighters by a significant margin (40-50% larger cargo than the next largest one in the class). And that's keeping in mind these modded freighters are already a lot better than vanilla ones in the first place.

As far as I can tell, it's not like Foundation freighters have any weakness to offset this (very high maintenance costs, fuel consumption, CR deployment, or combat fragility). In fact, some of them tend to be even more powerful in combat than some combat freighters, which normally have especially low cargo to offset their increased firepower. I know it's not my place to tell you how to write your own mods... but for the sake of balance, I would at least consider adding some sort of drawback if they're going to be so much better than everyone else's ships.

Well that's not a bug but I could fix it. Those commodities like Agent are actually 'commodity', couldn't be recognized as 'crew'.

These freighters' strength is based on the FOB's business strength. Well, they should be powerful at any aspect. Anyway, they will be nerfed by higher maintenance cost and need more crew in the future.

Evolvers are gained with a Foundation Of Borken cargo ship (they produce them automatically per size) and taking Borken ships into battle.

Of course, you have to get said ships first.

As for joining the Foundation...Favorable or more and then you can trade with them.

I'm not a content creator but I can tell you what we need. People to patiently wait for a mod author to do their thing. Messaging a thread saying "WE NEED IT WE NEED IT." believe it or not will not assist in getting a mod ready for release faster. If you have a criticism like balance, or ships ect thats fine but stop with all this WE NEED IT ***. Mods are like a gift. You don't get to ask to for them. There is a ton of effort that goes into a mod and its not like the creators get payed. I will acquiesces that modders have a voice to and I should probably not say *** like this but come the *** on people stop with the childish begging. It will be done when its done and not before then.

I'm not a content creator but I can tell you what we need. People to patiently wait for a mod author to do their thing. Messaging a thread saying "WE NEED IT WE NEED IT." believe it or not will not assist in getting a mod ready for release faster. If you have a criticism like balance, or ships ect thats fine but stop with all this WE NEED IT ***. Mods are like a gift. You don't get to ask to for them. There is a ton of effort that goes into a mod and its not like the creators get payed. Might be. Might be someone who's first language isn't English (no offense intended) or a lot of things. But to me its just strange. Modder's put tons of work in and on nearly every single thread I see complaints, whining and overall just people being demanding. For personal use I've taken a stab are rebalancing the hull prices for this mod to be more in line with vanilla's price change in 0.9.1

What I mean to say is that I'm sure I've done a horrible job. Anyone can use this file as a replacement for their own file. Of course I'd love it if someone better than me, like the author were to come out with a set of new official prices, but well, I figured I'd share this here. Either in case someone wants it, or in case someone wants to improve on it, or share their own version that's better than mine, which I could then use.

I guess personal use is an odd phrase to have used.

Hello, i'm studying how modding works for Starsector and i took the freedom to solve the "?? ? ?? ??" showing on the tool tip, which is caused by not supported chinese characters:

Spoiler
1. In your mods folder, go to Foundation of Borken/data/campaign
2. Open rules.csv using Notepad++. Make a backup, just in case
3. Go to line 68
4. Replace the entire line with:

SetTooltip deployCh ""Note: Before deployment, your standing with the Foundation of Borken and with the local forces must be above welcoming.""

Note this is my personal translation, I'm not a native english speaker so please feel free to change or correct it.

5. Save and you're done. Just restart the game

I noticed there are more chinese characters inside and they can be solved/translated in the same way (I just help myself using Google Translator)

Its missing a row, which reads the factionid. If you look into FobmodPlugin.java there should be global variable that needs to be loaded from outside of the code -> from the json file

There is a bug that breaks people's save games. It's related to a Borken hullmod.

It's easy enough to figure out what, in the save file, was causing it either by reading the user's error or by comparing the save game that they originally uploaded with the fixed one.

I used Borken's Mental Healers to change a Reckless officer to Steady, but I've noticed that the officer keeps reverting back to Reckless, I used the Healer twice and both times the officer ends up being Reckless again. Sounds like a bug, could anyone look into this?

I've had no trouble with bugs in v0.2.4-rc3 but I don't use any of the "cheating" features like mental healers, I just use the "normal" ships and stations and such and they work great. I'm going to try out the files.catbox files if I ever restart my galaxy though.

Namely these lines from the gamelog gave me the clue:
'Caused by: javax.xml.stream.XMLStreamException: ParseError at [row,col]:[477107,80]
Message: An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x{2}) was found in the value of attribute "{1}" and element is "13".'

So, I've opened up the savegame with Notepad and found the corresponding line causing the error:
'<savedVariant z="197766" hId="FOB_gnophkeh" v="18" c="0" hVId="70a6ae_23" vDN="Standard" s="REFIT" mAAW="true" gV="false">'

And that's basically it - that little '' was crashing my game. All you have to do to fix YOUR savefile is to use the search&change option (ctrl+h) and choose the  as item to search leaving the 'change to' line empty. Click change all and save. Enjoy!

To prevent that error from happening again though, you have to edit '\data\variants\FOB_gnophkeh_Standard.variant' and change:

If I have removed the PCR system from a planet with intent to move it to another planet.

Why is it that the storage from Borken / the PCR system is still accessible on the planet itself? The tab is still visible and accessible.

Is there a way to remove it?

Could you try loading the untranslated mod first to see if it works?

A quick search yielded this info:

"Ship hull [mod_ship_id] from ship_data.csv not found in store"

"There is a ship ID in ship_data.csv that cannot find a match in any .ship files in the hullId field, so it cannot find the ship hull. It finds it based solely on the hullId field and not the filename. It is case sensitive."

Let's see first if the untranslated mod from the link above hopefully works without hitch for you, then we'll see what we can do from there.  :)

Try overwriting again with the translation files, and maybe make sure there are no duplicate folders of some kind. Final test I can think of would be backing up your mod folders temporarily and leaving just the Foundation of Borken folder (complete and translated) and loading it up solo. If it still doesn't work with that for some reason I'm not sure I can help you further, since we've yet to receive similar problems from here or in the unofficial discord server.

Just a reminder: the translation link only contains necessary files that are needed for translation and it needs to overwrite the untranslated version, (which should be installed first).

Though fingers-crossed that you might manage somehow.  :)

Because the system is just called "FOB_test" I just removed its file and the mod loaded. Maybe there is some discrepancy in what people download from? Can anyone make sure what is the correct link and what files are supposed to be there?

Just going to chime in. Love the mod so far. Beautiful ships and great special effects. The giant eyeball is awesome.

Also, as someone who isn't super great at this game, I have to say, this faction has weirdly been my best friend. I'm friendly with them and FoB fleets randomly escort me and fight alongside me. They've saved me more than a couple of times against Legio Infernalis fleets I would have been demolished by. Idk why they're set to follow me like this so often, but they're welcome to tag along!

I think it has custom tool tips and will need to be patched. I'm missing my Chinasector mods.
