Title: Homeworld - Deserts of Kharak

Anybody here played it? Any thoughts? Was the shift to ground combat a let-down for you?

I found it actually better gameplay wise, perfect blend between Ground Control 2 and Homeworld. The story is okay+, trying to tie up a lot of known threads so no big surprise for the veterans but no major clashes with the previously installed universe. The content is a bit limited, but that's no surprise given the size of the team and the very high quality bar. The AI is a BIG let down however. All in all it's a good game for the reasonably lengthy solo campaign, but don't expect much beyond that, it's up to you to decide if that's worth the price. They do seems to have plans to add more though, no clue if it will be paid or free DLCs.

Honestly I'm sick and tired of paid DLC, so it should be pretty damn good if I'm gonna buy it. But I'm sure they will deliver nonetheless.

Also, the game keeps reminding me of my  days in World In Conflict.

I am disappointed with the game. Its to expensive for how little it offers. And is full of small bugs or graphic glitches, and lack some basic things like save options in skirmish or any options for maps (you can not even set to have 3 teams).

This game is way too expensive for what it's turned out to be. Campaign is fairly standard and the only other option is multiplayer.

If you're expecting Homeworld 3, look elsewhere (also Homeworld Remastered is getting a HUGE patch and any fans of the game should definitely check that out). It has the pace of Ground Control with the nuance of...an RTS without much nuance. Weapons fire respecting terrain is about the only interesting mechanical aspect of it (kind of like SupCom except here it's a lot more obvious). The game isn't bad but it's nothing special compared to the classics, so if you're an RTS veteran, stay away from this game. Other people who are less experienced with RTS and looking for something to cut their teeth on I think would enjoy it but I would still recommend waiting for a sale to pick it up.

I started a blind LP of the campaign on the hardest difficulty when the game came out and immediately regretted it. It's beatable but man is it a slog. I still haven't finished it.

I thought it was okay. Nothing special though. Not from the way some people were raving about it. Average game, like most new releases to be honest.

That's why I'm gearing toward Indie games more now. Most so-called AAA games feel half-arsed lately and I feel like they are just milking your wallet with this "must have DLC that isn't worth spending money on and should have been free" trend. But I digress.

So yeah, wasn't quite as good as it could have been but still worth playing. Decent RTS is hard to come by (don't rant at me about Total War and whatnot, I'm not a fan anyhow lol).
