Title: Failing, Expiring or Abandoning Missions
Post by: Leefizzy on August 28, 2023, 08:35:09 AM
Is there a difference in reputation loss doing one over the other.

You can abandon a mission right after taking it, and will have no relation changes at all. (Useful if you took it by mistake.)

Otherwise abandoning before completing it will net a smaller reputation loss than letting it expire.

IIRC expiration or failing the mission will result in the same (full) reputation penalty.

Good to know.

Is this same for delivery missions? Like you took their goods and left them for yourself.

They will sometimes be extra upset with you in that scenario (as in send someone to teach you the errors of your ways...).

I decided to try it.

4k supplies was too lucrative. So will see if retribution comes. I belive I'll be able to outrun or defeat them.

Or use cheating SP, LoL.

Game become too easy with SP.

Some missions will hit you with a double whammy of reputation hits.  Like in your example if you choose to sell a shipment of supplies for a higher rate than they're asking for the delivery of said supplies, then not only are you trading a small bit of rep for a sizable monetary gain but you are hit again with another reputation loss when the merc fleet shows up looking for payback...  if they can catch you that is.  Also once the trust is broken, a faction will ask you to make a down payment that is returned upon successful delivery, so there are unseen consequences that can arise.

Story points do feel a little cheap sometimes, so avoid using them unless needed.
I am spending mine building in Insulated Engines to go unseen and Aug Drive to keep my slowest ships at 9 or above. Also I spend SP on upgrading the spaceports of my colonies immediately for the growth bonus from the accessibility increase, not to mention income boost.

I wouldn't S-Mod Aug Drive an extra +1 tends not to be needed to achieve that base-9, especially with Bulk Transport, which may remove the need to run Aug Drive at all. Especially since you really only need base-7, which is the standard for capital-grade fleets.

Invictus exists, and most capitals need at least 2 to reach base 9.

Wow! If that's true, then this is well thought by Alex! I like it.

Mmmm, so finally consequences caught me. Bounty hunter got me as soon as I T-jumped to hyperspace. I belie it's almost impossible to dodge it.

But that battle cost me only 600 supplies, good payment for 4k supplies :D
Also I was able to salvage highly d-moded Apogee, but I have restoration skill.

I guess I've got lucky that I had my fleet, as I was jsut going to do some 200+k bounty hunting on fringes.
